Arisu likes to think he’s a good angel. He only interferes with human lives when he’s told to and is an all-around lovely person. He works part-time at a barbeque restaurant on earth because he likes helping people. Arisu likes to think he’s a good angel and then a certain demon comes around.
“You look pretty today Arisu,” Chishiya singsongs as the angel walks up to his table to take his order. Arisu takes a deep breath. “Could you not,” Arisu hisses in the nicest possible tone.
He makes eye contact with the demon. Chishiya smiles up at him, it’s cynical. Arisu hates it. “Your usual?” Arisu then asks, pulling his pen and notepad out of his apron pocket. “You got it,” Chishiya replies, sending a wink Arisu’s way. The angel gags and swears he has the most violent thoughts an angel is capable of having.
The angel turns on his heels and heads towards the kitchen, vaguely jotting down Chishiya’s usual order. The demon likes to stop by the restaurant every Wednesday and has been ever since the angel started working there. Frankly, Arisu thinks he’s insufferable.
“I see your favourite person is here,” Usagi, a fellow angel and server at the restaurant, giggles. Arisu lets out a quiet exasperated groan. “I think we have different definitions of favourite Usagi,” the younger replies.
Arisu pins his order slip to the board as Usagi watches him, a sly smirk resting on her face that Arisu can see without even looking. “He likes you,” Usagi singsongs.
There’s a brief silence as Arisu looks over at the demon’s table. Chishiya is on his phone, patiently waiting for the meat and side dishes to come so he can start grilling. Arisu looks back at Usagi and furrows his brows. “You’re being ridiculous,” the brunette says, arms crossing over his chest. Usagi merely shakes her head, placing her hand firmly on Arisu’s shoulder.
“He does, you just don’t wanna fall for a demon,” Usagi snickers, pulling her hand back before leaving Arisu standing by the kitchen to go seat a new set of guests. “I won’t fall for a demon,” Arisu mumbles before hearing his name being called to pick up an order. He turns on his heels into the kitchen and grabs the order for table seven.
He can feel a set of eyes watching him as he walks around the restaurant delivering orders and checking up on tables. He knows exactly who they belong to. He always does.
When isn’t Chishiya ogling at him?
He picks up Chishiya’s order, regretfully, and walks over to his table. Arisu sees the smile that grows on the demon’s face. Arisu has to repress a scoff. “Your food,” the angel says, placing the plates on the table for Chishiya. “Thank you, angel ,” god Arisu swears he tastes vomit in his mouth at that.
“Don’t call me that,” Arisu nearly snaps and doesn’t miss the smug look on Chishiya’s face. “You should join me,” Chishiya then says. Arisu’s mouth falls open as he stares down at the demon in disbelief. He doesn’t say anything initially, taking the time to collect his thoughts. Or rather, his rather violent thoughts he as an angel shouldn’t be having. “I have a job you know,” he says instead of anything else he had in mind.
Chan smiles. “I do, I just think you deserve a break,” Arisu scoffs, rolling his eyes. “That’s not your call to make,” the younger replies, looking the demon in the eye. “The owner likes me, I’m sure she could make an exception for little ol’ me,” Chishiya sweetly says.
“I have work to do,” Arisu blankly replies as he hears the bell at the door ring. The angel turns on his heels and heads for the door to seat the family that just walked in.
Arisu, thinking back on it, felt a warmth bloom in his chest as the little nickname from the demon. Even if he was simply stating what he is. There’s no way in heaven he’d ever admit that out loud though. Not to himself, not to Usagi, certainly not to his talkative roommate Chota who’s dating a demon named Karube who just so happens to be best friends with Chishiya. This is between him and the gods above.
“Right this way,” Arisu says with a smile, waving at the little girl holding a stuffed blue bunny. The girl giggles as she and her parents follow Arisu to a table near Chishiya’s. “I’ll give you a moment to look over the menu before ordering, just call me over when you’re ready,” The parents nod to him before he turns away from the table. “I talked to your boss,” Chishiya smiles.
Arisu takes a deep breath, feeling a tinge of anger rising in his body. God, why does his smile have to be so, so pretty? “And what did she say?” Arisu, with a sigh, asks. “She said it was high time you take your break anyway, plus she thinks we’re cute,” Arisu nearly chokes on the spit in his mouth.
“I’m sorry, what did you just say?” Arisu asks a little louder than he’d intended, drawing a few eyes towards him. Chishiya reaches for his wrist and pulls him down into the chair beside him. “She says we’re cute. She always sees us talking and the way you always blush,” Chishiya teases.
“I don’t blush,” Arisu hisses, looking away from the demon.
Chishiya lets out a hearty laugh, slapping his knee. “And I’m not a demon,” Chishiya wheezes out between laughs. A scowl grows on Arisu’s face as he makes eye contact with Usagi from across the restaurant.
“Have fun,” Usagi mouths. “Fuck off,” he mouths back and watches as Usagi giggles to himself. By the time he glances over at Chishiya, the demon seems to have calmed down from his laughing fit brought on by Arisu’s absurd words.
“I’m only staying here because you asked the owner,” Arisu says, making eye contact with the older. “So what I’m hearing is to get you to have dinner with me all I have to do is ask the owner to give you your break?” Chishiya cheekily says. Arisu rolls his eyes so hard Chishiya thinks he can hear it. “No that’s definitely not what I’m saying,”
“I’ll just have to ask again next week,” Chishiya replies, placing his hand on the angel’s thigh. Arisu freezes up, nearly losing his composure completely. “I’ll just take my break before you get here,” Arisu replies, trying to sound confident in his answer but failing miserably.
“You like me too much to do that Arisu-ah,”
2.
The next week, Arisu does take his break early, but Chishiya isn’t on time either. It’s around eight-thirty when Chishiya walks into the restaurant. Arisu spots him almost immediately, it’s hard to miss his silver hair after all.
With a small sigh, Arisu walks over to the door to seat the demon. “You’re late,” is all Arisu says but it’s enough to earn a laugh from the older. “So you’ve been waiting for me huh?” Chishiya replies, nudging the angel with his elbow.
“No,” a beat passes as they make it to Chishiya’s usual table, “You just always come at the same time,” Arisu explains, pulling out his small notepad from his apron. “Your usual?” Arisu then asks.
The demon nods before opening his mouth to speak. “Your shift ends soon right? I’ll walk you home,” Chishiya says and Arisu doesn’t even wonder at this point why the demon knows his hours. The owner probably told him since she seems to like Chishiya so much. Arisu wonders if she’d still like him as much if she knew he was a literal demon.
“Usagi and I walk home together,” the angel says before turning towards the kitchen whilst scribbling down Chishiya’s order. Chishiya’s eyes follow him the whole way to the entrance to the kitchen.
“Don’t even,” Arisu says as he walks past Usagi into the kitchen. The older angel giggles as he watches Arisu walk by. Arisu pins the order slip on the board and turns back towards Usagi. “Someone was later today, hmm?” Usagi then says and Arisu can’t help but roll his eyes.
“Yeah whatever it’s not like I was waiting for him,” Arisu replies, leaning back on the counter, eyes trained on a certain silver-haired demon. “Says the guy that’s been looking at the door all shift,” Usagi snickers. The younger angel nudges at his arm with her brows knitted. “Shut up I have not,” Usagi nearly buckles over in a fit of laughter at that. “Sure Arisu-ah,” she then replies, patting the younger’s shoulder. “I just wanna know what he said to you last week to get you acting like this,”
But Arisu shakes his head, noting that the demon’s order is ready. “He didn’t say anything,” a lie. Usagi knows that much.
So Usagi sighs as he watches the younger scurry back into the kitchen and retreat with Chishiya’s usual order. “I wonder when he’ll admit it,” Usagi mumbles before dusting off her apron and getting back to work.
There’s a smile on Chishiya’s face as he watches the angel walk over with his food. “You know, my offer still stands Arisu-ah,” the demon says as Arisu sets down his food. The younger switches on the grill, not sparing Chishiya a glance. “I already told you I walk home with Usagi,” Arisu says, standing up straight.
Arisu looks over at the demon finally, making eye contact with him. There’s a bit of a frown on the demon’s face and he almost, almost, feels bad. “Alright,” Chishiya breathes out, breaking his eyes away from the younger’s gaze.
A silent moment passes before the angel hears the bell at the door ring and without another word, he walks away to greet the guests.
The last fifteen minutes of Arisu’s shift are unbearably slow. Not in the volume of customers but in literal time. He swears the clock ticks slower every time he glances over at it between getting people more side dishes or refills on their drinks. A few passing words with Usagi and some glances across the restaurant nearly meeting eyes with that demon he seems to hate so much.
Though, hate isn’t exactly the word Usagi would use to describe the feelings Arisu has for Chishiya.
“We’re off now,” Usagi says in passing and Arisu feels a weight lift off his shoulders as he sees the people taking over for them emerge from the back. Arisu finishes what he was doing and heads to the back behind Usagi. “Can we stop at the convenience store before we walk home?” Arisu asks and the older stops what he was doing.
“OH! I forgot to tell you, Kunia is picking me up and we’re going to her place,” Usagi exclaims the first part as she turns around, explaining the rest to a rather confused Arisu. “You mean you’re going to heaven?” Arisu deadpans, eyes dull. “Yes…” Usagi mumbles, awkwardly rubbing the back of her neck.
Arisu sighs, untying his apron. “Now what ‘m I supposed to do?” Arisu pouts, shoving the apron into his small backpack. “Aww, the poor angel is afraid of walking home alone at night,” Usagi teases.
“Literally so are you, that’s why we walk home together,” Arisu fires back, throwing one of the pillows from the breakroom couch at Usagi’s back. “But I have a girlfriend to walk with me when you miss work,” Usagi pauses, picking the pillow off the floor. “You my friend are lonely,”
The younger angel rolls his eyes before he zips up his backpack. “I have Chota,” he replies, making Usagi laugh. “And if Karube is over? Will he leave his boyfriend to escort his scared best friend home?” Usagi asks.
“I hate that you’re right,” Arisu mumbles as they both grab their bags and head out of the back.
The older angel is already standing by the door when they emerge and Arisu sees the smile on the demon's face as he recognizes what’s going on. Chishiya waves over one of the other servers to get his bill. Arisu, putting aside his distaste towards the situation, stands awkwardly near the door.
It’s almost as if he’s waiting for a certain someone.
Moments later he’s watching as a silver-haired figure approaches him, stopping right in front of him. “So am I walking you home?” Chishiya asks with a rather satisfied smile on his face. The angel pouts. “Usagi is going to her girlfriend’s,”
“To Kunia's,” Chishiya replies immediately. Arisu sighs, looking up and meeting the demon’s gaze. “My place isn’t that far,” the angel says, vaguely motioning with his head to follow him.
Chishiya takes this as a small victory in his books as he follows the angel out of the restaurant. It’s just past nine now. It’s mid-March and already very dark outside. Without even realizing it, Arisu walks albeit a little closer to Chishiya than probably necessary. “Why do you even come to the restaurant so much?” Arisu finally asks, setting on a question after a solid two minutes of awkward silence.
The demon looks over at him, noting the little distance between them with a smile. “I think one of the servers is pretty, and it’s the best meat in this part of town,” Chishiya replies. Their hands brush past each other as their arms sway with their steps. Arisu shivers. “You’re literally a demon can’t you just go wherever?” Arisu asks with brows furrowed, still staring straight ahead as they walk down the street.
“Well yeah but like, I’m responsible for this area of the city so like, it’s easiest just to eat here,” Chishiya is definitely ignoring the fact that Arisu ignored the first part of his initial answer.
Arisu nods, staring at the upcoming crossing light. Their hands brush against each other again and this time Arisu looks over at the demon. Chishiya sees the moment when it registers in Arisu’s eyes how close they’re walking.
The angel stops, causing Chishiya to stop a pace ahead of him. The demon turns back to him, watching a faint blush sweep over his cheeks in the moonlight.
No words are spoken. An unspoken understanding is reached as Arisu takes a breath and catches up to Chishiya. They don’t speak the rest of the way to Arisu’s apartment, not till they get there and Chishiya offers to walk him all the way up to his place. “Mmm I’d rather you not meet my roommate,” Arisu says and Chishiya bursts out laughing.
“You know your roommate is dating my best friend right?” Chishiya breathes out between short laughs. Arisu crosses his arms over his chest with a pout. “Whatever fine walk me up to my place,” Arisu grumbles as he keys them into the building.
Chota and Arisu’s apartment is only on the second floor so Chishiya follows the angel towards the staircase. “Your building is nice,” Chishiya comments as the younger pushes open the door to the staircase. “My place in heaven is nicer,” Arisu replies, looking back at Chishiya momentarily. The demon snorts. “I bet my place in hell is nicer,”
That gets a laugh out of Arisu, and Chishiya counts that as his second small victory of the night. “I’ve never been to hell, I wouldn’t know,” Arisu replies, reaching for the door to his floor. “I could have it arranged,” Chishiya then says and Arisu shakes his head.
“I’m good,” he says. They reach his and Chota's place and the angel can faintly hear the sound of two people talking from inside. He sighs before turning to Chishiya. “Um, thanks for walking me home I guess,” the angel says, awkwardly looking at the floor.
“Anytime angel,” Chishiya winks and Arisu has to look away again. “Whatever don’t die trying to get back to hell,” he says before turning to his door and keying in the code.
“Awww you care about me,” Chishiya coos. “Shut up,” Arisu grumbles before slipping into his place. A sigh leaves his lips as he slips off his shoes and heads into the apartment. “Was that Shiya?” Karube asks from the couch as he walks through the living room to get to the kitchen.
“Were you eavesdropping?” Arisu asks instead of replying. “It’s my specialty!” Karube singsongs and his boyfriend giggles. Arisu huffs before turning around. He leans against the counter and looks at the couple on the couch. “Usagi went to Kunia’s after work and Chishiya… offered to walk me home,” he finally explains.
“So you’re finally opening up to him!” Karube cheers. “I thought you, and I quote, would never date a demon,” Chota says with a rather smug smirk on his face. “I won’t, you guys are being ridiculous. I’m going to bed,”
3.
Arisu is taken aback, to say the least as he watches a familiar head of silver hair walk into the restaurant on a Monday evening. “What’s he doing here?” Arisu hisses, slapping Usagi’s shoulder as they stand by the cash.
It’s not all that busy on Mondays, a few people are scattered throughout the restaurant but that’s about it.
“You could I dunno, go seat him and ask him,” Usagi says rather flatly, checking the time on her phone. Arisu mumbles something incoherent under his breath that Usagi doesn’t catch as he walks towards the door. “What are you doing here?” Arisu bluntly asks as he walks up to Chishiya.
A playful frown adorns Chishiya’s face at the younger’s question. “Aww didn’t you miss me?” He coos, earning a scoff from Arisu.
The demon laughs as Arisu turns on his heels to take him to his usual spot. Chishiya follows behind, leaning over Arisu’s shoulder. “I have official demon business to deal with on Wednesday, sorry angel,” Chishiya whispers in his ear. It sends a shiver down Arisu’s spine and the poor angel nearly stops in his tracks entirely.
“Don’t miss me too much,” Chishiya says, pulling away from Arisu’s ear as they reach his table. “I won’t trust me,” Arisu says as he watches Chishiya get settled. The demon smiles at him as he reaches for his hand.
“Have you taken your break yet?” Chishiya asks, holding Arisu’s hand. The younger freezes. His mind blanks at the sudden contact. Chishiya waves his free hand in front of Arisu’s face to catch his attention.
Arisu shakes his head and looks at the demon. Snapping back to reality, Arisu pulls his hand away from Chishiya. “No,” Arisu replies and he watches as a smile grows on the older’s face. “Mrs. Nakamoto!” Chishiya calls, earning a few annoyed glares from other patrons for his volume and a bright smile from the old woman sitting by the back counter. Mrs. Nakamoto stands up and walks over to his table, all the while Arisu stands there frozen.
“He’s crazy,” the angel mumbles. Chishiya just barely catches his words and sends a wink his way. “Chishiya, how are you sweetheart?” the old woman asks as she reaches his table. “I’m good Mrs. Nakamoto, I was wondering if Arisu could take his break now?” he asks oh so sweetly and Arisu nearly forgets he’s a demon.
Nearly .
“Of course, of course, you two enjoy,” she sweetly replies, winking at Arisu who simply stands there dumbfoundedly. The next thing Arisu knows, Mrs. Nakamoto is walking away and he’s being pulled down into the chair next to Chishiya.
“You’re abusing the fact that she likes you,” Arisu points out, not being able to look at the older. “A little,” Chishiya admits. A sigh falls from the angel’s lips as he plays with the end of his apron.
Footsteps approach their table and soon Usagi is standing in front of them. “What a lovely couple we have here,” Usagi snickers, pulling her notepad from her apron. “What can I get you two?” Arisu narrows his eyes on his best friend. “See Arisu-ah, even your friend thinks we’re cute,” Chishiya says, nudging Arisu’s shoulder. “Usagi Aoiha you’re on thin ice,” the younger angel says, getting a laugh out of both Chishiya and Usagi. “Just my usual is fine,” Chishiya then says.
Usagi nods, scribbling down the order. “Do you want anything Arisu?” Chishiya asks, turning to Arisu. The angel bunches up the fabric of his apron in his fist as he meets Chishiya’s gaze. “I’ll pay,” the demon adds. “Usagi you know what I like,” is all the angel says looking back at Usagi.
Usagi jots down what she thinks Arisu will like before walking away. Chishiya is still looking at him when Arisu turns to look at the older again. Arisu doesn’t look away though when their eyes meet again.
“You have pretty eyes,” Chishiya says, smiling at the younger. The tips of Arisu’s ears go red. He feels it happen too. “Oh shut up,” Arisu mumbles, but he still keeps staring into the older’s entrancing eyes.
They’re a deep, deep shade of red and from far away, one might mistake them for a dark brown. Up close though you can see the lighter red starbursts that shoot out around the pupils. The speckles of a true red throughout the irises. And the gold flecks that reflect beautifully in the yellow light of the restaurant.
“You’re staring,” Chishiya mumbles just loud enough for Arisu to hear. The angel blinks a few times, noting the faint pink colour that dusts the older’s cheeks. “No I’m not,” Arisu replies just as softly.
Arisu looks down at his hands perched on his lap. “You think I’m pretty,” Chishiya says, a little louder this time and with obvious teasing intent. Arisu doesn’t reply. He isn’t looking at Chishiya but he knows, he just knows the demon has a smirk plastered all over his face (and he would be very right). “You think I’m pretty don’t you?” Chishiya repeats, leaning closer to the angel.
Arisu makes the mistake of looking at the demon, noting the minimal distance between their faces. His ears burn a brighter red as he looks away again. “You just have nice eyes,” he mumbles, and Chishiya hears every single word.
“I think you have pretty eyes too,” the demon admits, pausing slightly. “I also think the rest of you is really pretty,” he adds.
“I’d never fall for a demon,” Arisu says, but his voice lacks confidence. “I think you already have angel,”
4.
“Oh my god, you actually miss him,” Usagi exclaims dramatically. It’s near the end of their shift two days later on Wednesday where Chishiya has, and I quote, official demon business to attend to. “I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Arisu mutters, leaning back on the counter.
Usagi laughs. “You totally miss him oh my god,” the older says, slapping Arisu’s shoulder. “Quit it will you? Call out oh my god one more time and he’ll give you a mission to do,” Arisu hisses at the angel. Usagi laughs again, rolling her eyes playfully at the younger. Usagi settles against the counter beside Arisu. She looks over at his best friend with a sigh before looking towards the mostly empty restaurant. “Arisu-ah,” she says rather sternly.
“I see the way you look at him,” Usagi pauses, eyes landing back on her best friend. “It reminds me of the way you used to look at Niragi,” the younger looks over at her. “Don’t say that,” Arisu softly says. Usagi shakes his head.
“You do Arisu,” the older says, gently taking Arisu’s hand into her own. “Whether you think you do or not, you do,” Usagi softly replies. “I don’t — Usagi please,” the angel softly pleads. “You can’t deny it forever Arisu,”
5.
The following Wednesday, Chishiya is right on time. Arisu pretends a warmth doesn’t spread throughout his chest when he sees the demon walk through the doors.
“Hi you, did ya’ miss me?” Chishiya asks sweetly as the angel walks up to him. “In your dreams,” Arisu scoffs. “He totally missed you,” Usagi calls from the register and if angels could kill, he’d be one dead angel.
A smirk blooms on Chishiya’s face and Arisu doesn’t fail to miss it. “Don’t listen to her, she likes to spout bullshit,” Arisu quickly says as they approach his table. “My my my I didn’t know angels could swear,” Chishiya giggles as he sits down. “We aren’t perfect,” Arisu responds, pulling his notepad from his apron. “Well I think you’re perfect for me,” Chishiya smoothly says and watches as Arisu’s face turns three shades pinker.
The blush spreads from ear to ear across his cheeks and Arisu can feel his face heating up. “Are you doing anything after your shift?” Chishiya asks. He props his elbow up on the table and rests his chin in the palm of his hand. “Mario kart night with Chota and our angel friends,” Arisu replies as he jots down Chishiya’s order.
The demon nods. “I guess I wouldn’t be welcomed among a group of angels huh?” he laughs and Arisu finally looks at him. The creases around the older’s eyes as he laughs make him smile if just a little.
“I’m not entirely sure, your best friend is dating my roommate,” Arisu replies as Chishiya looks up at him. The older smiles. “Is that you subtly inviting me over?” he asks, raising a brow at the angel. Arisu rolls his eyes, shaking his head as he walks away to put in his order with the chef. “What’d you two talk about hmm?” Usagi asks when he returns from the kitchen. “He asked me what I’m doing after my shift so I told him about Mario kart night,”
Usagi’s eyes widen and she slaps the younger’s shoulder lightly. “He was gonna ask you out of my god,” she squeals in a hushed tone. “No way,” Arisu quickly shakes his head, eyes trained on the silver-haired demon seemingly texting someone while waiting for his food. “He totally was! You should invite him to Mario kart night! Karube texted me saying Chota invited him,”
“Oh did he text the group chat?” Arisu asks, ignoring his initial proposition. “Mmm, you have your phone on silent right?” Arisu nods. “Mira asked if she and Ann could come too, which means their only friend not going is Chishiya. You should invite him.”
Arisu sighs. “This is a friendly invite,” Arisu says, narrowing his eyes on Usagi. “So you admit you at least see him as a friend?” Usagi shoots back with a brow raised. “Yeah whatever, just as a friend,”
“Just a friend my ass,” Usagi mumbles as Arisu walks into the kitchen to grab Chishiya’s order. Arisu emerges from the kitchen and heads straight for Chishiya’s table.
“So all my friends can go but I can’t?” Chishiya pouts upon the arrival of the angel. “I was just about to invite you,” Arisu mumbles. The demon looks up at him, having caught what he said. “Really?” His eyes go wide like a puppy’s and Arisu has to look away. “As a friendly hangout,” Arisu adds softly. The demon smiles. “I can start with friends, that’s cool with me,”
A blush rushes over Arisu’s cheeks and this time, he doesn’t hate it completely.
+1
It’s just after nine when the three males leave the restaurant together. Chishiya dragged out his stay to make sure he was there long enough that they could all go together. It’s the first week of April and there’s a light breeze as they walk up the hill that is the street the restaurant is on.
It’s Chishiya’s second time making this walk. He smiles as he glances over at Arisu beside him. On the angel’s other side is Usagi and Chishiya isn’t even sure what the two are bickering about.
He’s just happy to be walking with them, with Arisu. Truth is he’s liked Arisu for a while now. Chishiya visited the restaurant even before the younger started working there a year ago but after he started working there Chishiya couldn’t help but fall. Personally, he thinks it’s written in the stars that they’re meant to be, but Karube just thinks he’s a little dramatic.
“Chishiya?” Arisu calls, snapping him out of his thoughts. “Oh yeah, what’s up?” The demon asks, stopping beside the two angels. “You were spacing out and almost walked into a pole,” Usagi explains and the older turns his head, taking note of the pole less than a meter away from him.
Chishiya laughs awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck. “Come on,” Arisu says, tugging on both Chishiya and Usagi’s sleeves to continue walking.
The demon smiles. Usagi catches it and can’t help but smile to herself. Arisu ends up tugging on both of their sleeves the rest of the way to his and Chota's place. Only realizes it when he goes to key them into the building. “Oh,” he mumbles, retracting his hands from the two sleeves. Arisu keys them in and directs them to the staircase. Chishiya and Usagi are whispering to each other as they walk up the stairs and Arisu ignores it.
Though part of him is dying to know what they’re talking about.
They reach his door and he puts the code in before letting the two guests in. “We’re here!” Arisu calls, noting the extra six pairs of shoes not so neatly placed in the entryway of the apartment. “Arisu!” Asahi beams, poking her head past the corner where the hallway and the living room meet.
The older smiles walking deeper into his apartment. It gets louder as he and the two other males walk in further. Ann, Chota, Kunia and Karube are already racing each other.
Karube is winning, just barely as Ann tries to steal first place from him. Kunia and Chota are in sixth and ninth respectively, desperately hoping for a good powerup or that the CPUs would fuck up.
“You started without us, no fair!” Arisu whines. Chishiya can’t help but coo at the angel. “We were getting bored!” Kunia replies before screaming as he gets hit with a red shell. Chota laughs maniacally as he passes the disoriented Kunia. Arisu walks in front of the screen to get to the kitchen as Chishiya perches himself on the arm of the couch.
Arisu gets a slew of boos from the players as he momentarily blocks their view. Arisu rolls his eyes at them, shooting back something along the lines of it’s my apartment I can walk where I want.
Niragi and Mira are sitting on his counters when he walks in. “You guys really make yourself comfortable here hmm?” Arisu says sarcastically. He reaches for the fridge, grabbing out a can of ice tea. “It’s homey, what can I say?” Mira replies. Usagi walks in a moment later with a smug look on her face.
There’s enough of a divide between the calm of the kitchen and the hellscape that is Mario kart in the living room, Usagi thinks. “Arisu likes Chishiya,” Usagi snickers and the two demons gasp. Arisu hits the older’s shoulder.
“First you tell him I missed him and now you’re telling them that? What’s next? You’re gonna tell Chishiya?” Arisu says with his back to the entrance of the kitchen. “Tell me what?’
Arisu’s eyes widen. He turns on his heels and sees the demon they were conveniently just talking about in front of him. “Nothing nothing, they were just being stupid. Oh, look! Karube just won. I'm gonna go play!” Arisu says before zipping past Chishiya into the living room. Chishiya looks at the remaining three males. “He didn’t deny it this time though,” Usagi says.
The demon lets out a soft chuckle. “I told you he’d stop denying it eventually,” Chishiya says, directing the statement at Niragi.
Said demon laughs a bit, his head falling onto Mira’s shoulder. “You did say that didn’t you,”
A few hours fly by filled with heated races and many many many calls of dirty play on the side of the demons. They decide to call it a night after Karube wins his twelfth race of the night, deeming him the winner of the night.
“I told you I’d win tonight,” Karube says, sticking his tongue out at Asahi. The youngest angel rolls her eyes. “Whatever, it’s movie time!” She declares, looking over at Arisu. “Can you go get snacks,” Asahi asks.
Arisu narrows his eyes on the younger angel. “I’m not going alone,” he replies, crossing his arms over his chest. “I’ll go with you,” everyone turns to Chishiya, perched once again on the arm of the couch. Arisu takes a breath before nodding. ”Alright,” he says, standing up from his place on the floor. “We’ll be back in a little,” Arisu says, walking past Chishiya to the front of the apartment.
The demon follows behind him, slipping on his shoes when he gets to the door. “There’s a convenience store on the corner of the street,” Arisu says as they exit the apartment. Chishiya nods. “Lead the way angel,” Chishiya singsongs. “I told you to stop calling me that,” Arisu mumbles, a light shade of pink rushing over his cheeks.
“But it’s so cute watching you get like that,” Chishiya replies, smiling at the angel. Arisu doesn’t reply as they go down the stairs.
It’s cooled down significantly now that it’s after midnight. Arisu should’ve expected it honestly but he didn’t. He rubs his hands together as they walk down the street. Chishiya sighs, reaching out for one of his hands.
He intertwines their fingers and the younger looks up at him but doesn’t try to pull his hand away. “You should’ve grabbed a jacket,” Chishiya says and the younger shrugs, looking forward again. “I forgot,”
Arisu likes the warmth of Chishiya’s hand holding his. The pure electricity it sends throughout his body from his hand. He likes the way that the simple act makes him feel. The blush that crosses his cheeks and the way his ears tint red at the tips. Arisu likes it. Arisu likes Chishiya. He knows that now.
But honestly, he’s always known.
It was a silly little prejudice he had against dating demons. He’s not even sure where it sprouted from. Maybe simply from realizing he’d begun harbouring feelings for a certain silver-haired demon. Either way that shatters around him as they walk hand in hand down his quiet street at twelve twenty-three in the morning.
Arisu sees the store come into view and Chishiya almost tries to pull his hand away when they reach the doors. “What if the cashier thinks we’re dating?” Chishiya asks brow raised just slightly.
“Then let them,” Arisu thinks then that maybe falling in love with a demon isn’t so bad after all.
