1.
In the days approaching her death, she found herself quite giddy with a feeling she couldn’t identify.
Truth be told, she was tired. Tired of seeing her comrades die, tired of seeing her children die one after the other and most of all she was tired of life.
There was nothing for her left to do.
She taught her successor all she had to know about suppressing the demon. But alas, she couldn’t reveal all her secrets.
Konoha does not need a weapon with a mind of its own in these dangerous times.
(she knows her husband would furious at the state of things.this was not what he strived for.not children dying before their times.he was too idealistic but she herself would agree with him.children shouldn’t have to fight in a war caused by grown men and women.)
The fall of Uzushio still haunted her and all that was left were its scriptures stolen by the other Hidden villages and one little girl and herself. Perhaps the demon as well.
A little nagging thread of guilt still lingered even after coming to terms that sealing the demon was for the best for the world.
(she knew stories that they weren’t demons, just creatures made of chakra with thoughts and minds of their own and she ignored it because it was because of her that all nine of them were sealed, doomed for eternity)
Perhaps, she could have chosen to bind to them differently.
(what is done is done)
Mito smiled at Kushina.
Red hair like her what her own used to be and blue eyes, belonging to Mito’s father’s, reminiscent of the ocean at night.
(that poor child.)
Mito told her to love and hoped that it would counter the chains that would tether Kushina to Konoha.

Consequences are funny little things.
Some you can predict, some you can’t. Some don’t pass like expected, some do. And some barely ripples, whilst others cause a tsunami.
The afterlife works in a funny way, Mito determines.
She is sitting in a puddle of blood- blood that is not her own, but perhaps belonging to man lying centimetres from her body. His dark brown eyes are wide open with blood dribbling down on his eyes from his head, which was drenched in blood.
(his eyes used to be a golden brown, darkened now to frightful shade of black and it looked like he tried to fight but was overwhelmed and Mito feels an overwhelming urge to cry but she won’t because she needs to find someone important, someone she swore to protect)
She hears a cry that pierces her out of her thoughts, and she picks herself up and, ignoring the metallic smell of blood, she follows the sound.
It’s a baby she sees.
“Yuuji.”
