Chapter Text
Tonight, is cold, dark and cold. Something that the Human honestly liked, as he felt like it created the atmosphere, especially when the brown lights are there. Loved it in Nebraska and loves it now.
Oh wait, what was he doing....?
Ah yes, he was trying to plan for his next event he is going, along with a Fox that he considers to be.... Well, basically his only real friend, met during around their teens he believes.
There's something about her that, hit too well and made him go along with her, which lead to something that, honestly, he doesn't really like at all, but feels it's necessary for the right reasons.
The Fox is more of a leader in events, doing most of the hard work such as planning and doing said plan to would do for the day, while he does the minor stuff. Maybe something akin to "Dirty Work" that's more like, akin to picking up trash or giving someone a hand to hold if something needs to be done with some more effort, rather than the kind of Dirty Works that leaves someone to the dust.
He usually likes that kind of work, it makes him stay in his own pace while knowing he's making a difference, and it's not bothering anyone.
However, while they do go well together to the point where he feels kind of relaxed, he's also....
Not so relaxed.
So many things that related to what they do go into his head, as well as in general to be fair.
He's usually the kind of person that thinks first all the time before doing something second, always considering the "Other side" of a picture.
Which.... Isn't always the greatest thing to have with your only real friend.
Especially tonight as they stay at some random hotel room for the rest of the remaining light the moon would spare before it's sibling catches up.
"Okay..... Shit, I honestly....... I honestly can't believe we gone this far."
"Heh, yeah, me too. Glad all that time that I spent with those classes, and experiences paid off. Thanks to you."
The Human stares at her for a moment, realizing that, for probably the first time in his life, he made a different to someone in a meaningful way by his own actions,
Or at least that's how he feels.
"....Really?"
"Yes, I mean it. It may sound off considering of the kind of person I am, but you did change me, maybe not much.... But you still did.", The Fox sounds more genuine by the next as she speaks
He doesn't really know what to feel about it, should he feel worried that a part of himself would give a negative influence to her, or does his beliefs of live actually made her take something into consideration.
Whatever it is, he hopes she is fine in the end, along with everyone else.
"I hope it's not bad.", The Human says bluntly, he's usually someone who is honest with himself despite being polite, which makes the Fox admire him in that way
"Bad, Good, whatever, at this point in life, I don't care much about that."
He doesn't like the sound of that.
"I think... You should actually."
"Why siree?". The Fox playfully says as if she's in a good Ol slumber party
"Because..... Uhh....... There's a lot more around that in life, and I think taking one-note takes around that would lead to......"
"Okay, I am just playing around, this would be all fine.", she tries to let him know its all okay
"Based on how we talked about this for the last few years, I don't think this is exactly "Playing around"....", He says with genuine concern
"C'mon "Mista Gentle", we talked about a bit of this before we got into that Taco Bell before staying here, law enforcers are just hypocritical bastards who ruin the fun, that's how it's always been whenever we do these trips."
And that comment, rings something inside of him.
The kind of ringing that tells him something is off.
The kind of ringing that hollow throughout his body to tell him that this ISN'T something to follow it's path to.
Something, that makes him speak up, because after all...
There's nothing wrong in explaining, right?
"No, they don't."
The Fox stopped for a moment, looking back at the Human before giving slight smirk on her face, as if a part of herself can't help but find it funny on how seemingly naive he is being now.
"Oh really?~", Fox said, sort of raising her pitch by accident, as she hoped that he wasn't going to continue this sort of conversation
"Yes.", he responded with a serious stern, catching her off-guard
"Oh. You ain't kiddin?", she questions a bit more seriously
"I wasn't kidding when we first talked about it, and I am not kidding now. I-I mean.... People are just people, right? Sure, some do it as an excuse to abuse power.... but....", The Human tries to speak up, but has a bit of a hard time finding more words, increasing his anxiety
"There's obviously some that..... That are doing it to make it a better pla-"
She knew where this is going
"C'mon! Do you know the situation this place is at? Corruption, brutality, constant conflict that creates genuine criminals because society has failed them. I think it's absolute bollocks that you believe that there's some "Good apples" in a group that doesn't seem to try to make a damn difference."
"How can you really tell? Maybe they aren't trying to, because that would risk themselves and make that idea for naught. Not all people in something as vague as.... A Cop, or Officer, are bad people. We need to be more open-minded than that.", The Human tries to explain while the Fox mutters "Oh, there he fucking goes again", making a part of his heart sink, even if he has this sort of talk times before
"We don't have time to be open minded....... Not until we do what we are planning to do.", The Fox tries to calm herself before exploding a bit there. She isn't too amazing with heavier stuff like he does in her mind.
The Human takes note of this
"You mean, to help the Orphans, and the Poor?"
"Yes, that and more. Look Nathan, I am not great with all of this "morality" talk despite you hammering it down to me. I'm more of an action vixen, and to me, regardless of our beliefs, it's important that we mainly focus on why we are doing this at hand..... In the first place so that WE can make something better."
"But..... If we do not question these things, then how can we be better?"
The Fox loses focus on "Nathan" looking down on the ground with a frown expression, before looking back to him
"Well..... We simply have to go through the ropes, because that's who we are Nathan. I am a fox, you are a human. We only just play our roles in this god forsaken tale."
"That's what you think.", said in the most serious tone he probably has ever said tonight, almost in a threatening way
Both "Nathan", and the Fox stare at eachother, one is fearing for the worst to happen, from the screams and the yelling that may happen at any moment, while the other just looks at him as something that's going on for a bit too long
They are tired of it, and they don't spare any dime in letting the other know it
The Fox then does a short laugh, before saying...
"Man, your mom is right, you argue too much.", The Fox tries to play it "Flirtfully", but comes off as dead serious before stressfully walking out of the room, preparing their next assignment for themselves
"Nathan" stares blankly on the ground, sort of emotionally hurt that even she sees him as being argumentative.
He wasn't trying to be aggressive, he just always seems to find a fault that he feels the need to talk or explain about.
Maybe that's his problem, maybe it's just that he tries to explain right away without letting it cool off, in some fear that the person he's talking to, would ignore it.
To his mind, if they ignore his calls for clarification, then they wouldn't try to understand his perspective, venting all of their feelings as if they did not care about him all.
That's what he feels, and he wishes the pain of negativity would go away.
No... Please...... Don't hate me, don't yell....
I don't want to bother anyone....
"Diane.....", "Nathan" quietly says in a somber tone, as if her identity is emotional enough for him to let the words go out of his throat like a leaky sink
And then, silence, with some blaring ringing in his ears.
