Chapter 1: the chase

Chapter Text

Love Bite

“Shit. He’s tailing me”, I cursed under my breath. Swiftly turning again to check if he was anywhere close.

I had been running. As fast as my legs could carry me. Like a prey clinging onto dear life, I was desperately gasping for air and trying to find somewhere to hide. The damp night air was suffocating, and the lack of light in this dense forest did little to help my situation.

Crouching behind a tree for temporary cover, I heaved slow and steady breaths to calm myself. I HAD to think.

I was too deep. Deep in this mess. In this situation. In this DAMN FOREST, and I knew I was going to be stuck in here for a while.

Feeling flushed from all the running, I put my hand to my neck to try to cool it down, only to flinch from a sharp sting. I traced my fingertips along the injury, feeling the crevices of two dents I found right above my collarbone. The moisture that remained on my fingers reeked of a culmination of rusty iron and sweat. The sound of a twig snapping nearby broke the eerie silence, causing me to jolt up and freeze in panic. “It really is too late”, I thought to myself. I was going to die right here.

My head was pounding from the exhaustion, while the trees around me began to fade into indiscernible blobs. The cool summer night sky gazed down upon me as I defeatedly slumped back onto the tree that managed to protect me for a solid 5 minutes, resigning to my inevitable fate.
