Work Text:
Carlos was always up before Jay. He didn’t know why, nor did he know how. Someone else would say that it was because Jay had tourney and so therefore was more exhausted, but ask Evie or Mal and they’d tell you that was bullshit. Jay still had a great deal of Isle stamina, and something that Aurodonians counted as exercise wasn’t that taxing. Carlos would reckon that it was an aftereffect of waking early every day for years while on the Isle to start the impossible chores his mother insisted on. And a fear of being late for class. That definitely had an effect too.
Nevertheless, no matter the reason, Carlos was up and Jay wasn’t. He loved to look at his boyfriends sleeping form sprawled across the sheets, long dark hair going everywhere creating a halo around his face and a tempting sliver of golden brown skin showing on his chest (Jay loved to sleep shirtless, something that frequently drove Carlos crazy). Soon he would wake him with kisses and a “hurry up, we’re going to be late!” but for now he was content to admire his gorgeous boyfriend while he was in the peaceful grips of slumber.
A knock brought him out of his musings, and roused Jay.
“Wha’? Time to get up?” he mumbled blearily.
“Sh, baby, go back to sleep,” said Carlos, climbing onto the bed and kissing Jay. “It’s six thirty,” he continued, tangling one of his hands in Jay’s hair and trailing the other down his chest. He gave a light pull and Jay made a sound that would have been a moan if he hadn’t been busy reclaiming Carlos’s mouth.
Jay pulled back just slightly and said “can’t sleep when you’re there doing that,” then threw his head back as Carlos made the most of his shirtlessness and started on a hickey on his collarbone. Carlos finished and drew back, pleased with his handiwork.
“Well, if you’re not going to sleep, what shall we do?” He asked teasingly.
“I have a few ideas,” Jay answered, and lent down to kiss Carlos again. Just then, the knock sounded again and more insistently too.
“Godsdamnit,” Carlos muttered and reluctantly got up to answer it. “It’s probably just Mal come to be a dick, but I’d cover that hickey just in case,” he called behind him to Jay, who scowled.
“Don’t act like you weren’t the one who put it there,” he pointed out, but twitched the blankets over himself anyway.
Carlos rolled his eyes and opened the door. “The fuck you want Mal- Chad?”
“Uh, yeah,” Chad stuttered, looking like he’d just lost the nerve he’d gathered to come there in the first place. “Um - “
“If you aren’t going to tell me what you want, go away. Don’t you have beauty sleep to catch up on or some shit?”
“Look, I know you can have your fun, but Aziz and I have the dorm next to you, and you guys aren’t quiet, and the mystery kept me up all night!” Chad burst out. Carlos was confused. Sure, he and Jay had fucked last night but they weren’t a mystery. They were out and Carlos thought that that would’ve been pretty obvious to anyone.
“What mystery?” He snapped. He was tired and he wanted to go back to making out with his boyfriend. Sue him.
“How are you getting girls into your rooms? I know like sometimes you two and Mal and Evie have sleepovers but everyone knows when that happens. How are you sneaking girls into your rooms, making love, then getting them out without anyone noticing?! Aziz thinks I’m being silly but he refuses to explain and also who is she too? I need answers, bro, I can’t live with this kind of mystery!”
Carlos was silent for a moment as he tried to unpack all this. “Chad…” He sighed deeply and rubbed his forehead. “Ok, first, don’t call me bro ever again. Second, did you really just say making love? Third…” He sighed again. “One sec.” Carlos closed the door on Chad without waiting for his answer and turned back towards the bed where Jay was sitting up, having heard Chad’s rant.
“Does he really not know about us?” Jay asked in disbelief.
“Apparently so?” Carlos said, just as bewildered. “Literally no idea how, but there you go.” He paused, and then smiled mischievously. “ Wanna mess with him?”
“You know I can't resist mischief,” Jay said. “Just lemme find a shirt.” He started digging around beside the bed where clothes had been thrown last night, and Carlos opened the door again.
“Chad, I have no idea how you think that Jay and I are fucking girls in our dorms. There’s no way we’d be able to sneak them in without you guys noticing!”
“Exactly, dude! How are you doing it? Come on, you can tell your pal Chad! I won’t tell!”
“Dude is worse than bro. I would tell you, but I’m not fucking a girl, and Jay isn’t either. And besides, one of us wouldn’t fuck someone else if the other one was there, that’d be gross.” Carlos could see that Chad still had no idea, so he gestured to Jay behind his back. He came, shrugging on the shirt from the day before (giving a Chad glimpse of the hickey). Jay pressed himself up against Carlos’s back.
“What’s the ruckus, love?” He asked, slipping a hand into Carlos’s back pocket and pressing a kiss to the top of his head. Carlos suppressed a smirk. Jay was playing his part perfectly.
“Chad here is under the impression that we’ve been bringing girls into the dorm without anyone noticing,” Carlos said.
“Dude, please, Carlos won’t admit to it, but I can hear you getting down with some chick! Who is she and how are you sneaking her in without everyone hearing?!” Chad was getting incensed.
Carlos could feel Jay’s chest behind him shake with suppressed laughter and he knew that if he turned around, he’d see that expression that he had when he was trying not to look happy; the left corner of his mouth would do a weird twisty I’m-not-smiling-you’re-smiling thing and the corners of his eyes would be carefully schooled into smoothness.
“Dude, I’m sorry to say that I’m not bringing a chick in here and neither is Carlos. Besides I’m far too occupied to be fucking around,” Jay said.
Chad looked shocked. “You? Not fucking around? What’d you do, get into a committed relationship or something?”
“Actually, yes,” Jay smiled. “Carlos too. That’s why it’s laughable that we haven’t been bringing girls in.”
Chad’s expression changed from shock to confusion. “But you could just be bringing your girlfriend in?” Carlos sighed and leaned back against Jay.
“Baby, I think we’re gonna have to just come out and tell him,” he said up to Jay.
“Come out and tell me what? Who the girls are?” Chad asked.
Jay sighed, then leaned down to gently kiss Carlos, a far cry from the passionate kisses of before.
“What do you want to tell me?” Chad said, getting more insistent. Carlos and Jay broke apart incredulously.
“Chad. Did you or did you not just see us kiss?” Carlos said flatly.
“Uh, yeah I saw you kiss,” Chad answered.
“And?”
“You guys always have this weird intimate brothers-slash-best-friends-slash-fuckbuddies dynamic, I don’t know. Why won’t you tell me who you’re sleeping with?”
“Chad. We’re boyfriends.” Jay said in as flat a tone as Carlos had used.
“Yeah, of course you’re friends, everyone knows that,” Chad said.
“Chad, we’re boyfriends as in we’re dating, we’re together, we’re seeing each other,” Carlos announced.
“Carlos is the one I’m sleeping with and I’m the one Carlos is sleeping with! Get it into your thick head!” Jay cried, done with his obliviousness.
“Oh, that makes so much sense now,” Chad chuckled. “Of course you weren’t sneaking girls into your dorms to bang, you were just banging each other!”
“Yeah.”
“Well, I’m honoured that I’m the first one that you told,” Chad smiled.
“Actually Chad, we’ve been out for two weeks. Even Fairy Godmother knows about us,” Carlos said.
“Oh - er. Sorry, um. To have missed that, haha.” Chad stuttered. “And, like, just so you know, I’m not gay or anything myself, so like, don’t hit on me, but I’m absolutely an ally.”
“Great? Thank you for your service? And why would either of us hit on you? Actually don’t answer that. Come on Jay, I’m tired.”
They went inside, and closed the door in Chad’s face before he got the chance to say anything.
“So…” Jay said once the door was closed. “Where were we?”
“I believe I was in the process of painting that gorgeous chest with bruises,” Carlos replied, walking him back until he hit the bed and Carlos could climb on top of him.
“Gorgeous, huh?” Jay smirked.
“I’ll show you just how gorgeous I think you are, baby, but we actually do need to get ready for school in like fifteen minutes.”
“Ugh, don’t remind me, I just want to think about my stupid hot boyfriend.”
“That’s smart hot boyfriend to you.”
