Chapter Text
It was mid-afternoon.
A feline-like girl with an outfit fit for typical exploration stood on the rooftop of a building in the famous city called Zoruopolis. It was bustling with life, characters of all kinds interacting with each other. The sun was shining off of glass buildings around the height of the building she stood atop of.
The girl couldn’t help but think of her own life from the past. She knew about the city life and its ways of getting everyone together. Not her, though. She was on her own for this one.
“You must be deep in thought, Misty.”
Startled, the girl named Misty turned to see a literal angel, halo and all. They had a wolf-like appearance. Misty stayed on her guard. Misty asked defensively, “Who’re you, and what do you want?”
“Nothing,” the angel answered calmly, “I am merely a seeker like you.”
“Seeker? You don’t know that.” Misty defended her position. “You don’t know anything about me!”
“Oh, I know much about you, Misty.”
Misty’s eyes widened. The wolf raised her hands. “Relax, I am not here for confrontation. My name is Velouria.”
“Alright, Velouria, what did you come here for, huh?” Misty barked at Velouria with as much threat as she could muster. “You’re not here to steal anything from me, are you? If it’s a fight you want, it’s a fight you’ll get!”
“Misty,” Velouria explained, stepping closer to her without fear, “You were a space thief. Now, you are part of a group of heroes known as the Jetters. A fight is something I can provide to you, but do you want to take that chance alone?
Misty was stunned. How did she know? How could she know about everything she had been through with the Jetters? Was there a biography out there in her name that she wasn’t aware of? Maybe she’ll find the author and slam their face in. “Okay,” she said, “So you do know about me. What of it, though?”
Velouria asked, “You are seeking a powerful artifact known as the Silverwing Quill, correct?” Misty nodded. “Well, it just so happens that the one who created those artifacts is me.”
Misty understood now. This was no ordinary creature of this world. “Well,” Misty said, trying to keep her composure in check, “What does it matter anyways? It’s worth a lot of coin to me.”
“Meddling in the affairs of another universe is ill-advised.” Velouria’s tone went from pleasant to serious in a split second. “You know not of the effects it can have on my world and yours. Reality could collapse in on itself, and dimensional rules could be changed due to your careless thought of committing petty theft.”
“So what,” Misty scoffed at the goddess, “You think I care about some dimensional rules? I’ll be the exception.”
Velouria lifted her arm and opened her palm. A ball of yellow glowing energy formed from her hand. She targeted Misty’s chest. “I do not make exceptions, child,” she spoke ominously, “And you will consider what I have said to you. Your destiny will be met early if you do not heed my advice.”
This was the real deal. One false move and she would be obliterated. Misty took a deep breath and nodded slowly.
After a few seconds, Velouria lowered her arm and the energy dissipated. Then, Velouria disappeared into a mist of feathers all made of silver and gold. Misty watched as the feathers all flew off into the distance.
She turned her attention back to the city view below. She noticed a fox riding atop a bipedal sasquatch-looking creature with a long mane and ponytail at the end. The fox himself looked small, wore reading glasses, and was holding a quill that shined in the sunlight.
The Silverwing Quill!
Misty quickly made her way through the door that led to stairs going all the way down the building.
She opened the ground level exit door of the building and ran after her new target.
