Work Text:
“Come on, Jonah. It’s Monday.” Adam shook Jonah lightly, earning a groan in response. “Prove you’re up.” Adam shook him once more.
“‘M awake.” Jonah mumbled, turning over to face him.
Adam had started getting ready for the day. Jonah’s eyes stayed on him as he did so. Adam’s phone buzzes and he goes to check it. A text from Sarah, it read: good morning, pretty boy.
He sighed. “Here we go again.”
Jonah gets up, making his way towards Adam. He wraps his arms around him, giving him a kiss on the cheek before going to get ready himself. A knock at the door startles the two.
“Are you two both up?” Jonah’s mom asks. They grab their things and go downstairs, laughing at things the other said. Reaching the bottom of the stairs, Jonah ruffles Adam’s hair, in which Adam playfully punches his arm.
“Did you boys have a nice night?” Adam blushes a bright red.
“It was fine, mom.” Jonah tells her, pulling Adam away.
They stood in the mud room for a minute, laughing harshly.
“I’m gonna run to the bathroom, okay?” Adam speaks up after the two calm down. Jonah nods, heading back to the kitchen to make breakfast.
“You know, I heard some strange noises coming from your bedroom last night. And while it could’ve been porn, I doubt it. As your mom, I have to ask, have you been having sex? I don’t care if it’s Adam or someone else, as long as you’ve been using protection.”
Jonah turned to her. “Mom!”
Adam returns. “Let’s go out to eat.” Jonah whispers to him.
At lunch, the two are joined by Sarah, Adam’s girlfriend. Adam catches himself staring at Jonah a few too many times. He glances at Sarah to see she’s staring at something. He looks in the same direction and sees a girl.
He leans closer to her. “Like what you see?”
Sarah becomes flustered. “I- Uh..” She winks at him.
This only confuses Adam, just a bit though. “You still free today?” He asks.
“Yeah, I’ll always have time for you.”
He picks her up around 5, just after leaving Jonah’s. He had the GPS ready to direct him to Olive Garden.
They arrive and grab a booth. “Hey, uh, Sarah?”
She looks up from her menu. “Yeah?”
He takes a deep breath. “Can we talk?”
Sarah nods. “Of course, I needed to talk to you as well.”
“You can go first.”
She grabs his hand. “No, you brought it up first.”
He tenses at her touch. “Fine, at once, on 3. 1.. 2.. 3-”
“I like girls.”
“I like Jonah.”
They both go silent, Sarah speaks up first. “So, there’s no point in keeping this facade up?”
Adam shrugs slowly then nods. “Can we still be friends?”
Sarah gasps. “I’m offended that you even think that we can’t.”
Adam smiles softly. “I’m glad, really. You’re such a good friend and you’re so understanding.”
“You’re my best friend, of course I’m here for you.”
On the way home, Adam calls Jonah.
“Hi, how’d it go?” Jonah asks him.
“It went fine. We broke up, we thought we’d be better as friends than a couple. I’m almost at your house. I wanna play games with you.” Adam explained.
“Oh, okay. As long as you’re happy. And, I’ll get the games out when you get here. See you then.”
As soon as he pulls in the driveway, the door opens. He looks at Jonah, letting out a soft laugh. He gets out and walks up the front stairs.
“You’re very eager to see me, huh?” Adam jokes.
Jonah reacts in a way he hoped he wouldn’t. He finds his lips on Adam’s.
Quickly, he backs away. “I.. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to.”
Adam pulls him back in. Too wrapped in the kiss, they forget they need to breathe.
“So, what does this mean?” Jonah asks, looking into his best friend’s eyes.
“I like you, Jonah.” Adam rushes the words out.
“Really? As if the things we do didn’t tell me that. You remember Saturday night, when we spent it in my bedroom and-” He’s cut off when Adam kisses him again.
BONUS
Adam walks in, his hand intertwined with Jonah’s. Adam heads to drop Jonah off at 1st period and sees Sarah making out with a girl against the lockers. Before he leaves Jonah, he gives him a quick hug and a peck on the cheek. “Love ya.”
