Work Text:
Fingers danced upon the page as her eyes read, and re-read the final passage.
She didn’t get it.
“Miko?” Ei asked.
The kitsune in question hummed in response, not bothering to tear her eyes away from a different light novel. Judging from the subtle quick of one of her ears, Ei knew she was listening.
“What…?” she asked, holding up the booklet and pointing to the passage in question. “What… happened here?”
Looking up, as if it were the most troublesome thing in the world to regard her “friend”-in-eternity, Miko sighed. “What is what?”
Ei pointed again. Miko couldn’t help but smile at the agitated crease on Ei’s brow. Oh, poor thing was going to hurt herself at the rate she was going. With a huff, Miko made a dismissive wave of her hand.
“Oh, that?” she answered, sly as ever. “That, my dear, is a pure work of art. I wouldn’t blame you if it’s too deep for you common folk to understand.”
Although Miko had returned to looking down at, but not reading, the light novel in her lap, she knew Ei’s reaction. In fact, she had predicted exactly how Ei would regard “Pretty Please, Kitsune Guuji?” and, oh, it was no less delicious to see its realization.
“Common folk?”
Ei had risen, eyes glowing, and walked a dangerous walk across the room. Ei knew Miko’s taunts, but how would she get her back? She knew Miko relished the situation, and she knew Miko knew she knew.
Miko practically purred when Ei approached. When she saw the neon purple glow and felt the faint threat of static from close contact, Miko didn’t feel afraid. No, she felt a thrill rush up her spine. Would this silly light novel be enough?
“Is something the matter?” she asked, crossing her leg at the knee. She bounced it with impatience. For once, Ei would have to wait for answers. It was only fair.
Ei stopped in front of Miko - a little too close. She threw her booklet so it fell into Miko’s lap, on top of the light novel she was reading. How dare Miko pretend not to know?
“You published this,” Ei stated. She meant for it to come out a bit more threatening; it instead sounded a bit… vulnerable. “You truly felt the need to share our intimacies with the world?”
Miko’s leg bounced. Ei was certain that if her tail was visible, it would’ve been twitching to and fro.
“My, Ei, who knew you had a flair for the dramatic?”
In one quick movement, Miko grabbed onto Ei’s clothes and yanked her forward. Ei’s defiant expression egged her on.
Miko’s voice slipped lower, darker. “For once, all of your attention is on me.” Her slender fingers danced across Ei’s collarbone -- her favorite place to mark. The touch was equally a threat and a promise. “Are you sure that’s not in error?”
Her mocking tone did it; Ei growled in a way that Miko felt, by stirring up electrical discharge within her. The light aura around her was a reminder of the effect Miko had on her.
Holding back a smirk, Miko admired her handiwork. Perhaps, the light novel truly was enough to jump start Ei. Maybe the embarrassment of publishing such a known secret wasn’t in vain -- truthfully, Miko didn’t feel that much embarrassment, not if Ei paid back her investment in full, with full returns to the tune of Miko’s face between her legs.
“Me, in error? Nonsense. I will make sure you understand,” Ei thundered. The sky darkened outside, uttering the warning gasp of a thunderclap. “A god’s divine gaze never falters when it meets its target.”
Ei pushed Miko’s legs apart, making her feet land flat on the ground. Her eyes glowed in time with a lightning strike outside, and she placed her hands to the sides of Miko’s head, onto the chair as she straddled Miko’s lap.
Miko’s delighted laugh warmed Ei’s heart. How Ei missed such a sweet sound, a sound reserved only for her. A moment’s worry had gripped Ei - the question ‘what if I have taken our game a bit too far?’ always in her mind, assuaged by her favorite sound. Well, one of her favorite sounds.
“So, it’s true? I have you all to myself?” Miko asked. She let out a sigh as she wrapped her arms around Ei’s neck, as if she heard the answer.
Ei fixed Miko with a stern look, but couldn’t hold it and she broke into giggles. The two had talked endlessly about trying out new dynamics between them -- the idea was exciting to Ei, but she was not a skilled enough actor to stay in character. Thankfully, Miko didn’t seem to mind.
“What are you talking about?” Ei asked, laughing at the ridiculousness of the scene. As if such a light novel could threaten her relationship with Miko and her standing in Inazuma and whatever other things that could supposedly upset her. What a thought! ‘Let people talk,’ Miko had told her anxious editors before publishing, and Ei had to agree. It was a funny idea, others guessing the nature of their relationship. It was an idea she knew Miko would have fun with, and, well, who was Ei to deny her that fun?
Ei leaned forward and brushed Miko’s nose with hers. She couldn’t help but melt when Miko latched onto her; Ei’s protective nature flaring up every time Miko did such a gesture.
“You silly fox. You’ve had me.” She poked Miko’s cheek. “Was there any doubt?”
Instead of a laugh, Miko’s lids dropped and she couldn’t hold back a wide smile. Oh, her Ei. Her Ei. Everyone’s Archon, but her Ei.
“Mmm, maybe,” Miko responded, with as much coyness as she could muster. She parted her lips and brushed them against Ei’s, lingering only for a moment. Ei’s breath hitched.
Oh, Ei couldn’t hide anything to save her life. Her grip on Miko tightened, her breath sped up, her voice lowered. “Perhaps I’m overdue for a reminder.”
As much as Miko wanted to pounce on her pretty prey and take Ei right then and there, she did the opposite and lolled her head back. Her performances of mock exhaustion usually got the intended laugh, but not this time.
Ei’s hand found the back of Miko’s head and lifted it close to her face. Miko felt a flip in her lower belly. She liked when Ei took charge, and she liked playing with fire.
“You might have to keep reminding me. I can be so forgetful, you know.”
Unable to hold back, Ei captured Miko’s lips in hers. So much unnecessary pent-up emotion thrashed within her; it was an overwhelming feeling, the release she needed but repressed for 500 years… and she knew it had nothing to do with her powers and everything to do with her chief priestess.
“I will, Miko. For the rest of eternity,” Ei promised, voice gruff. Her body lit-up with the thought of the beloved moans her Miko would make. Suddenly, it wouldn’t do to wait, and Ei dropped down and sucked at Miko’s throat, earning a low groan. Ei shuddered.
She needed Miko. She needed her.
“Pretty please, Kitsune Guuji?”
The question asked so many different things at once, Ei meaning them all equally. Miko’s eyes flashed with the mirth to match the widening grin on her face.
“Oh, Ei, you know I love it when you beg.”
