I Found Him Like This

Notes:

WinTeam Week 2022
Day 2 - “I found him like this.”

Work Text:

"I found him like this," Pharm told the two seniors.

Team was almost passed out drunk, leaning against the bar. Win and Dean weren't even supposed to be there for another hour but Pharm called to say Team was already drunk and should go home.

"He never drinks by himself unless something is bothering him. I know he didn't get a great mark on his test this week but it can't just be that,” Pharm wondered.

"His times haven't been the best this week," Dean told them.

“It's my fault. I haven't been there for him as much as I usually am,” Win admitted.

Dean placed a hand on his shoulder and gave it a squeeze. “Don't blame yourself, you had a lot going on this week with all the London stuff."

Win sighed. That was probably another thing Team was thinking about because Win was too. He couldn't say he wasn't worried. Two years apart will be really difficult but he was confident they could make it. Win couldn't imagine himself with anyone else and he hoped Team thought the same.

Win walked towards where Team was resting his head on the bar and brushed the hair out of his eyes.

"Team, can you sit up? We're going to go home," Win spoke sofly.

Team’s eyelids fluttered open and he stared at Win like he was the best thing he'd ever seen. "Hia, you're here.”

"Yeah, I'm here," Win replied, helping Team sit up and turn around on the stool.

Team stretched his arms out and fell forward, Win thankfully catching him. He wrapped his arms tightly around Win’s middle and buried his face in his stomach.

“I knew you'd come back for me," Team said happily.

Win’s heart broke at his boyfriends words. He really had neglected him this week.

"I'll always come back for you,” Win promised, gently running his fingers through Team's hair.

Team didn't reply but Win heard quiet sniffles coming from his boyfriend as he held him tighter.

"I think we should get going,” Dean suggested.

"You guys stay, I can get him home," Win told them, pulling Team until he was off the chair and standing up.

Win wrapped an arm around Team's waist as the younger laid his head on Win's shoulder.

"Goodnight Pharm, get home safe," Team mumbled, holding out a hand to try and find his friend.

Pharm laughed and took his hand. "You too. Go and sleep."

Team just hummed in response as Win said something he didn't understand before they left the bar, Team falling asleep as soon as he was inside Win's car.

Team woke up with a pounding headache and squinted as light filtered in from a slit in the curtains.

He groaned and rolled over, expecting an empty bed but stopped when he felt a body. He opened his eyes fully and looked up at Win who was sat next to him on his laptop. When he heard Team moving, he looked down and smiled when he saw he was awake.

"Morning. How're you feeling?" Win asked.

Team just groaned again and Win turned to pick up some medicine and a glass of water, handing it to Team once he’d sat up.

"Thanks," Team said, setting the empty glass down. "Sorry about last night."

"I'm the one that should be sorry. I've not be there for you recently and I should've made more time for us.”

“It's only been a week hia and look at me. I clearly can't be alone. I'm too dependant on you and that's my fault," Team told him.

"Team-“ Win tried to speak.

"I'm so proud of you for getting to go to London and I don't want you to stay because of me. I know you'll be busy and it'll be worse than this week because of the time difference and it's not like you're going forever but I'm just worried," Team blurted out.

Win moved his laptop further down the bed and pulled Team into his side.

"You're worried I won't have time for you?" Win asked.

"Not just you. Next year I'm going to have more work too. I just think we’ll drift apart. I don't want to loose you. What if you find someone better than me?”

Win sighed. There it finally was. In the months since Win found out he would be studying abroad, he knew something was bothering Team but he'd never tell him.

Win pulled Team closer and kissed the side of his head. "Thank you for telling me what's been worrying you, but Team, you have to know there will never be anyone else. Even if I met every person on the planet, I'd still never find someone better than you.”

Team looked up, his eyes shining with tears. "Promise?"

"I promise," Win replied, leaning down to kiss Team's lips. Pulling back, he wiped Team’s eyes and stroked his hair. "Okay now?”

Team nodded with a smile before Win leant forward to grab his laptop, putting in front of both of them.

"You're booking a flight?” Team asked, his nerves building again as he looked at the screen.

"I'm booking a few actually. I need to make sure we actually get to see each other in person,” Win told him.

Team was shocked and Win smiled at the expression on his face when he looked at him again.

Once Team had shaken himself out of it, he leant up and kissed Win deeply.

"I love you," Team said as they pulled apart.

"I love you too," Win replied before he looked back at the screen. "Now, do you think your parents would be okay with you spending a Christmas over there with me?”
