“Kiryu, Kiryu! Look at this!” A phone is shoved in his face before he can even process. He squints his eyes and grabs Chiaki’s hand so he can angle it a bit further away. “A cake?” He questions once he processes the item on the screen.
Chiaki nods and grins at him. “Yeah! Can we make one?”
A soft smile takes place on Kuro’s lips. “‘Course. What made ya choose this one?” Chiaki’s eyes look like they’re glowing with how excited he is. “Cus it looked tasty!” Kuro laughs. “You know if we have all the ingredients? Do we gotta go to the store?” Chiaki shakes his head. “Noo, I made sure!”
Chiaki’s phone is taken out of his hands so Kuro can scroll through the recipe and ingredients list. Chiaki excitedly peers over his shoulder. “‘Kay. Let’s get the stuff out. Go ‘n get the… the stuff we need outta the fridge.” He hands the phone back to Chiaki.
Kuro rummages through their pantry while Chiaki does his business with the fridge. Some of the items are buried pretty far back, but, just like Chiaki said, they have all the ingredients. “You’re real excited for this, huh?” Kuro asks as a bit of small talk. He snorts when he hears Chiaki bump his head against something in the fridge. “Ah- Yeah!” Chiaki walks over and sets the items that he needed from the fridge onto the counter. Kuro watches him rub the hurt spot on his head after he turns around with an armful of his own side of the ingredients. “I don’t know why, I just really wanted to make one! Especially with you!”
Kuro hums as a sort of response. Once he puts his items down, Chiaki scurries back to his side with the recipe in hand. “Do you know where the mixer is?” They make brief eye contact before Kuro walks towards the cabinet above their microwave. Chiaki watches him lift it and take it out with seemingly no struggle. “Ooh, that makes sense,” Chiaki comments. He places a hand on his chin while he nods and closes his eyes. “Were you hiding it from me?” Kuro chuckles lightly. “Guilty as charged. You’re not exactly the cleanest baker, babe.”
“So mean!” Chiaki playfully proclaims. There’s a small pout on his face. “If I really wanted to,” he pauses to side-eye his boyfriend, “I would’ve found it anyway!” He sticks his tongue out lightheartedly. “Anyway.” Chiaki looks back at the items on the counter. “The recipe didn’t say anything about strawberries, but I got them out.” Kuro shrugs. “No biggie.”
The mixing bowl is settled on the mixing stand while it waits to be filled with ingredients. Seeing as this was Chiaki’s idea, and he looks pretty excited, he lets him be the one to put them in. These ingredients consist of flour, baking soda and baking powder, sugar, salt, cocoa, and espresso powder. There’s already a bit on the counter when Chiaki’s finished dumping them in, but it’s no big deal. Kuro powers on the mixer and watches it gently stir the items together on the low setting.
“Ookay!” Chiaki says rather loudly. “What’s next?!” Kuro looks back at the phone. “Uhh… Milk, vegetable oil, eggs, ‘n vanilla.”
“Eggs?”
Kuro nods. “Two of ‘em.”
“I didn’t get those out!”
Kuro looks back at the counter when Chiaki goes back to rummage through the fridge, but he turns back to look at him when he hears a splat and a crack against the floor. Chiaki stares down at the cracked egg before his line of sight slowly trails back to make eye contact with Kuro. “Gimme the one you have left. Go get another.” Kuro grins at him. Chiaki’s seriously clumsy, it’s actually funny. And cute. It’s amusing to watch him forget how to do things just because he’s excited. He’s the same way sometimes, so he has no right to complain. He cracks the two eggs inside the bowl when Chiaki places the new egg in his hand. He puts these few items in, so now it’s Chiaki’s turn to power on the mixer.
He probably should’ve told him what setting to put it on. Something splatters on his face and his eyes squint shut as a brief defense mechanism. He rushes to turn it off when Chiaki squeaks. “I’m sorry!” He stares at Kuro, covered in barely-made batter, while some of it covers his own face. “I didn’t know how far to push it!”
Chiaki looks completely dumbfounded when Kuro just starts laughing. It’s big and toothy, tears are welling up at the corners of his eyes. Chiaki puffs his cheeks out and sputters out a laugh. He can’t control his laughter when Kuro’s laughing so hard. “Ahh, fuck,” Kuro sighs out with a playful shake of his head. “You’re such a fuckin’ goofball.” A kiss is placed on Chiaki’s forehead before he pokes his chest. He points at the side of the mixer. “Read the settings.”
“Oh.” Chiaki blinks. He giggles again. “I didn’t see that.”
“Clearly!” Kuro playfully retorts. Chiaki squints his eyes in concentration while he adjusts the power. Kuro steps back, but thankfully nothing flies out of the bowl. Chiaki puffs his chest out and hums in satisfaction. “See! Not that hard!”
Kuro smiles at him fondly, his eyebrows furrowed while he tries to contain another laughing fit. “Don’t laugh at me!” Chiaki protests. Kuro’s hand covers his face while he tries to hold himself back. “Sorry- ‘M sorry.” He chokes on his spit just a little bit. “You’re just really cute.”

Lots of time has passed before it’s time to ice the cake (probably longer than needed to be). Chiaki’s already dropped some of the frosting on the floor, but that’s to be expected. He carefully spreads the buttercream frosting on their actually pretty well-made cake. Kuro smooths out the rough edges, but Chiaki did a fairly good job. “Yayy!” Chiaki cheers. “We did it!” Kuro kisses the side of his head before he moves to cuts two pieces, one for the both of them. “Ya did great.”
“Is that sarcasm?” Chiaki questions.
Kuro shakes his head. “Nuhuh, look at it. That look bad to you?” He hands Chiaki a plate.
A wide grin covers Chiaki’s face. He gives Kuro a big kiss after taking an abnormally large bite, covering his cheek in a chocolate lip stain. “Whoops.” Chiaki’s eyes go wide when Kuro grabs his face. He squeaks while he’s covered in a series of Kuro’s own chocolate kisses.
“I’m gonna get you back, you know!”
