Work Text:
Jonathan walked to Rakuen with the intention to get something to eat and visit his hero. Finally after so long idolizing about the idea of meeting Makabe Kazuki he was able to and now he couldn't help but go there everyday.
He walked in and saw Kazuki mixing something behind the counter. Cake maybe? He couldn't tell, the restaurant had a sweet scent to it so he assumed it was.
"Is that cake you're making?"
Kazuki looked up mildly surprised. He must have been really focused on mixing to not notice the bell ring from the door opening. "Oh Jonathan-san." He smiled. "Welcome!" He then focused his attention back on the mix in the bowl he was stirring. "It will take a little bit until it's finished. Did you want any once it's done?" He questioned. Referring to the cake.
"Sure." Jonathan said before taking a seat and continuing to watch Kazuki mix the batter. He looked so focused on the mix it was kinda cool.
As seconds turned to minutes the jingle of the door opening again resounded throughout the cafe and Maya entered. She glanced at Jonathan and smiled faintly.
"Oh hello Jonathan-san, morning." She said.
"Morning."
He didn't get to speak with Kazuki much after that other than telling him the cake was delicious, so he eventually left after eating.
That was a repeat routine for Jonathan. Going to Rakuen early when it was only Kazuki and leaving soon after more people started feeling in. He had no particular reason (at least thats what he thought) he just so happened to have things to do at that time.
The next time he visited the same time as usual he heard what sounded like laughter inside; it sounded like Kazuki. He hesitated. Could someone else have been there already?
When he opened the door he saw Kazuki standing slightly hunched over behind the counter and Soushi stood directly behind. What were they doing?
"S-Stop it! ...Ha..Soushi!" Kazuki weakly smacked at Soushi's hands which Jonathan assumed to be on Kazuki's waist until he eventually moved away.
Kazuki wiped away a stray tear from laughing then turned around and plucked Soushi's forehead. "Go to work!" He said scoldingly.
Soushi looked like he was gonna say something in response but glanced at Jonathan and simply sighed before grabbing a boxed lunch off the counter and heading for the exit.
He waved at Jonathan whom waved back and that was all the interaction they had that day. Jonathan looked at Kazuki and thought about questioning what just went on between him and Soushi but decided it was none of his business, and it wasn't.
Heck he was sure that as far as Kazuki was concerned he was just a customer from the Human army. Nothing more, and he could accept that, right?
A few days passed and Jonathan saw Kazuki outside of Rakuen in the street. He looked to be coming from somewhere. Before he realized it he found himself calling out to him.
"Makabe!"
Kazuki looked in his direction and smiled faintly. "Mitsuhiro-san?"
Kazuki had such a sweet and gentle smile to Jonathan. A smile that just made one think 'I want to protect him' it felt odd. Although Kazuki was supposed to be his hero he couldn't help but think that.
Kazuki approached him and they headed for the direction of Rakuen together.
"Were you just shopping?"
Kazuki held up a plastic bag Jonathan had not noticed. "Mm. I was heading back to Rakuen now. Did you want anything? Carry one of these and it's on the house."
Jonathan smiled and took two of the four bags Kazuki was carrying. "I can't turn that down."
They walked along the path talking amongst themselves and Jonathan found himself enjoying every moment of it. Occasionally blushing from embarrassment when Kazuki complimented him.
Getting praised by the one you idolized would cause anyone to get flustered of course.
They reached Rakuen and Maya was already inside. She looked at Jonathan pointedly then smiled at Kazuki.
"Minashiro-kun was looking for you, Kazuki-kun." Maya said from behind the counter, and Kazuki approached her.
"Did he say what for?"
Maya shook her head and briefly an almost annoyed expression came to her face as she glanced at Jonathan one more time. "He said it was nothing urgent and that he would drop by tonight."
Kazuki hummed. "I wonder what for..."
There was an extra tidbit Soushi mentioned however Maya decided to keep that little piece of info to herself; it wasn't exactly something Kazuki needed to know about at the moment.
Night eventually fell and Soushi arrived at the cafe. Glancing at Jonathan then Kazuki whom was standing in front of his table until finally looking towards Maya behind the counter and approached her.
"Your late." She said.
Soushi looked tired as he simply sighed before grasping Maya's wrist and pulling her into the back room. Kazuki watched the scene curiously.
In the back room Soushi let go of Maya wrist and leaned against a cabinet.
"Did you tell him?"
She shooked her head. "No. I don't think Jonathan realizes it anyway."
Soushi crossed his arms. "Should we tell him?"
"Well-"
The door opened and Kazuki walked in causing them both to pause. "What are you two talking about?"
Maya looked at him wide-eyed. "K...Kazuki-kun!?"
Soushi and Maya exchanged glances then Soushi walked forward and smiled at Kazuki. "Nothing. Is something wrong?"
Maya noticed a small blush appear on Kazuki's cheek, and smiled faintly.
"Oh um. Mizoguchi-san was outside, he was looking for Toomi."
She nodded her head then walked passed them leaving them alone. Soushi smiled at her as she exited.
Looks like they'll be keeping the secret anyway.

Jonathan knew he didn't reallly have any right to feel the way he did when the scene played out however he couldn't stop the slight twinge of jealousy he got when he saw Kazuki smiling sweetly at Soushi behind the counter.
He wasn't sure why he felt so jealous though; it wasn't as if he had crush on Kazuki or anything right?
Makabe Kazuki was his Idol and hero. The quickened beating of his heart he hanged aorund him didn't mean anything,

Jonathan noticed Maya and Soushi would give odd looks on occasion, as if they were expecting him to do something and conspiring to stop whatever they expected he was going to do.
However he didn't mind as long as he got to see Kazuki everything was fine. Jonathan froze. He was thinking about Kazuki an awful lot; it couldn't be that he.
"I'm in love with Makabe..." He mumbled out loud.
"You're in love with my dad!?" Kazuki practically shouted from behind the counter. Staring at Jonathan wide-eyed.
Jonathan looked back with equal surprise as he was not trying to say it out loud. "N-No! Not your dad...I meant..." Jonathan trailed off. His face burning up.
"No? But you said Maka- Oh..." Kazuki blushed.
Silence stretched as they both looked off to the side awkwardly trying to avoid eye contact. Kazuki fidgeted awkwardly holding the tray.
He was thankful when Soushi walked into the cafe.
Soushi looked at Kazuki then Jonathan. "Did something happen?"
At that moment Jonathan realized why Soushi and Maya were looking at him the way they did and also why his crush was probably a little bit hopeless. Because his hero was in love with another.
"S-Soushi!? Um..."
Jonathan spoke up. "No. Its nothing." He noticed the pleased smile Soushi had at hearing that. He also noticed the surprised look on Kazuki's face and then the knowing smile.
He wanted a hug.

Standing outside with Maya. Jonathan stared up at the stars passively.
"Are you giving up Kazuki-kun."
Jonathan smiled wryly at her. "It would be a hopeless battle. Trying to defeat Minashiro is like, trying to fight a Festum with a stick."
Maya chuckled then put a hand on Jonathan's shoulder. "Well um... If you want to talk I'm... Here."
Jonathan smiled back at her. "Well thank you. Onee-san." He said and she looked away awkwardly.
"Mm..."
Jonathan felt that despite everything. He would be fine.
