Work Text:
Max showed me a house he’s found for me tonight. He put all his contacts to work and came up with this frankly amazing place that I can somehow afford. The view from the roof terrace is stunning. If I got any closer to the sea, I’d be in it. Wow.
Despite my earlier protests about being an adult who can do all this alone, it was really nice of him to help me out, and in no time he came up with this place that’s ten times better than anything I’d found in weeks. He’s a really good friend. I’ve never had a better one.
I wish I could’ve accepted his hug; he was so happy I was pleased. A grateful pat was all I could allow though.
I asked if I could buy him a drink after the viewing, but he was going to meet his girlfriend. He must really love her; they’ve been together a while and it wasn’t so long ago he proposed to her. We’re just friends.
I know all of this. So why when he said about the house “it’s perfect for you”, for a split second did I hear, “I’m perfect for you”?
