Work Text:

Obi-Wan Kenobi, age 38, should not be getting that many grey hairs already, but here he stands in front of a mirror, counting at least 15 grey hairs. Most people would say it’s stress from having to raise someone like Anakin Skywalker, and they’d be mostly right, as much as Ani is the bane of Obi-Wan’s existence, he has a good heart.

Earlier that day, Obi-Wan had heard a buzz on his phone, and to his dread, it was Padmé asking him if it was still okay for everyone to come over for dinner. His stomach dropped as he remembered what day it was, and that he and Cody were to be hosting dinner for his chaotic family, Anakin and Padmé were also bringing the kids over for kriffing sake!

“What’s wrong?”Cody had obviously noticed his slight panicking, and came over to see what was wrong.

“We forgot about the dinner!” As Obi-Wan had said this, Cody’s eyes had also gone wide and just like Obi-Wan, he started to panic.

“I’ve got an idea! We call in help!” Cody suddenly exclaimed, almost bursting Obi-Wan’s poor eardrums. Under normal circumstances, the couple would be the ones who had everything figured out and prepared, but once they were alone in the same room, sometimes it was like they shared one brain cell between the two.

The day had started out like normal for Kix, the sounds of Fives and Echo running and screaming through the house - even though they are both fully grown adults, trying to see who could get down to the kitchen to eat the leftover cookies that Boil had made last night, normally Rex would be the one who actually got there first (no one really knows how he does it though).

Kix unwillingly got out of bed and dressed to face the day ahead. The time read 6:30 am, which in his opinion is way too early to be dealing with his brothers on a Saturday morning. All he wanted to do was go back to bed, but by all the banshee screeching that his brothers were making, that looked to be impossible now. Kix made his bed, and slowly made his way downstairs to what can be best described as a disaster- Fives had somehow got Echo into a headlock and was eating almost all the leftover cookies in front of his poor little brother. Fives would never admit it, but Kix saw the little stack of cookies that he’s keeping for Echo so he could still enjoy some cookies. Any normal onlooker might think that they both hate each other, but everyone who actually knows them knows best, they both love each other, Kix would go as far to say that they were both the closest out of all the family (maybe except for Waxer and Boil).

“HEY! GIVE ME ONE! You're gonna eat them all!” Ah, that was Kix’s queue to leave, as he knows that Echo will try to get him involved, and as much as he loves his brothers, he would rather have an old woman whacking him round the head with her purse than deal with them.

Just as Kix was going to go join Waxer and Boil in the living room, he got a call from Cody, which is not abnormal at this time of day, Kix swears that his brother gets no sleep at all.

“I need your help.” Well, that was one way to start a conversation.

“Do you need to hide a body?”

“Worse, me and Obi forgot about the dinner we’re supposed to be hosting tonight, and we need help.”

So this is how Kix found himself, Fives, Echo, Waxer and Boil all in the local Costco, helping their brother out, while he got Kenobi calmed down.
Fives and Echo had somehow got control of the trolley, and had been switching out who was being pushed around the store, and who wasn’t - safe to say, they might never be allowed to come back after this one trip.

After Fixes crashed into the many bottles all stacked up about 10 times, they had finally managed to find all the ingredients that Cody had needed for his dish - luckily Cody was cooking, because Obi-Wan can’t cook to save his life.

Cody had asked everyone what to cook for the night, and Kix, Waxer and Boil had all said to make Raw Fish, which is a very nice Māori dish that all their family likes to enjoy. The way Cody makes the dish is the best in Kix’s opinion- Cody always adds more tarata leaves to enhance the lemon flavouring, whereas Jango just kinda forgets that step.

“Hey Obi!”
“Yes!?”
“The food’s ready!”
As soon as Obi-Wan had heard Cody’s holler, he seemed to relax a bit. While waiting for the food to arrive, he had gotten a message from Satine, stating that she had arrived safely back in Athens, which always brightens his day. She had been in England for work, and was staying with him and Cody at their house- it was also Satine’s house, and they had all gone to some of the best restaurants they have ever eaten in, they also had a trip to Alton Towers the theme park, with Korkie, Anakin and Ahsoka. Korkie’s favourite ride had been Hex, to the utter sheer bad luck of Obi-Wan, who hated that ride with a passion. Anakin’s favourite ride had been the wicker man, he liked all the fire and the old wooden tracks. Ahsoka has loved the smiler-which she had to go on with Korkie and Anakin, as the adults had all decided that they would prefer not to throw up their lunch that day. Overall, the day is one the happiest memories Obi-Wan has.

Obi-Wan walked into the kitchen, where Cody has the food prepared (after the mess with the microwave, he’s never been allowed to go near any cooking appliance), the smell of the lemon when he enters immediately makes him hungry.
Obi-Wan starts to get the drinks ready, already knowing what everyone will have, as they all always have the same thing- Anakin has been drinking Diet Coke constantly since he was 11, which pained Qui-Gon to no end, with his hyperactive bouncing off the walls- personally, Obi-Wan found the whole experience quite funny.

After Obi-Wan had finished laying the table, the doorbell rang, signalling their guests' arrival. The first people to arrive were Anakin and Padmé- no doubt Padmé’s doing, as Anakin isn’t the best timekeeper in the world. Padmé was wearing a light pink dress that went down to her knees. The dress was embroidered with roses and vines that went down her arms in white, she completed the look with a pair of heels that almost made her the same height as Cody. Anakin had decided that he was not going to dress as fancy, and went with some black jeans and a burgundy turtleneck shirt. His look was completed with a brown overcoat and some black boots.

“OBI-WAN!!”
Said person was not expecting his brother to almost knock him over from the force of his bear hug. It hasn’t even been 3 days since they last saw each other.
While Obi-Wan had his arms full of Skywalker, he could hear a giggle in the background, and saw the two youngest Skywalkers- Luke and Leia found it hilarious that their poor Uncle Ben was being tackled to the ground by their own father. Leia was being carried by Padmé, whereas Luke was on the ground, patiently waiting for Obi-Wan to pick him up.
As Obi-Wan looked into Luke’s big, wide eyes, he couldn’t resist but to shove Anakin off of him, and gather Luke’s small body into his arms. Luke was very happy at this new arrangement, and made little noise of contemptment.
Anakin just looked comically betrayed that his own older brother would abandon him for his own son, even though he has to admit that when Padmé isn’t looking, he gives them both extra chocolate and sweets as he can’t resist the puppy eyes.
Cody, always the polite one, went over and gave Padmé a hug, who was always more than happy to give her brother in law a hug.

Just as they were all ready to sit down, the doorbell rang again, announcing Ahsoka and Rex’s arrival. Anakin went to open the door this time, along with Obi-Wan. Just like Obi-Wan, Ahsoka and Rex weren’t spared from Anakin’s rib crushing hugs. Ahsoka and Rex have lived together for a year, as they both preferred to live with friends, and not on their own.
Ahsoka, had dressed in a blue and orange oversized hoodie, that matched the blue and white of her hijab. Her trousers were a dark black, making her white vans stand out.
Rex was wearing a hoodie too, but this time blue and white instead of blue and orange like Ahsoka. His trousers were also a dark black, but his shoes were brown Doc Martens, that went up to his ankles.

Once everyone had hugged and sat down, Cody brought out the food. For the starter, they had vegetable potstickers, which Ahsoka loved. After catching up and finishing the starter, the main course was brought out. Rex was very happy to see his brother's Raw Fish, and finished his meal quite quickly, Anakin was the second to finish (which was saying something, as he could probably beat the fastest eater in the universe).
At this point in time, Ahsoka decided that she would share some of everyone’s embarrassing moments.
“Hey Skyguy, do you remember the time your flip flops melted on the path on the way to the beach? You had to go barefoot.”
Anakin did in fact remember that time, although it’s probably not the most embarrassing thing Ahsoka has on him, he still goes red.

“He had to hop everywhere!” Great, now Obi-Wan has joined in. For a little revenge, Anakin has decided that it’s war.

“Oh yeah? Probably not as embarrassing as that time you hit that old lady with your old favourite umbrella. Couldn’t keep your grip on the poor thing.”
This time, it was Ahsoka who went bright red. This got Rex to snort and chuckle.

“That woman was scary Anakin! I thought she was gonna kill me with her stare alone!” Poor little 13 year old Ahsoka had nightmares afterwards, and had to share Obi-Wan’s bed for a week.

Talking of Obi-Wan, she thinks he needs a little reminder of why he isn’t allowed 10 feet near a microwave anymore.
“Ahhh, our poor old microwave, I do miss it sometimes.”
And just by her saying that, she had her oldest brother giving her the best death glare he can. If she didn’t know he was such a softie and pushover, she would probably be a bit scared by now.

“ What were you trying to heat up again Obi-Wan?” And there joins Anakin, always ready to embarrass his older brother.

“Leftover lasagna from the night before!” Ahsoka added helpfully.

“Ah yes, my beautifully made lasagna. Thank you, Snips.”

Poor Obi looked dreadfully embarrassed, trying to hide his face into his baggy sleeves.

“That was one of the first ever fires you saw wasn't it Ahsoka?”

“Yep!”

At this point, Obi-Wan regretted being born, and wished he could just shrink down into nothingness. Almost sensing his utter embarrassment, Anakin took pity on him and re-told the story of the time Ahsoka was too busy on her phone and walked straight into a lamppost- this got even more laughter from Rex, and giggling from Padmé and Obi-Wan.

The twins at this point made themselves known, and climbed into Obi-Wan’s lap, deciding that they wouldn’t waste any time to get more uncle Ben hugs. Padmé always found it cute how much her children loved hanging out with their family, especially Obi-Wan, and how can she blame them, anyone who has ever got an Obi hug knows they are the best hugs in the world, and are to be cherished.

—————————————

Once everyone had gone home, Obi-Wan had got to relax on the sofa, using Cody as his much preferred pillow. Cody didn’t mind losing most of the feeling in his arm to make his husband comfortable, as he has deserved it today.
They both snuggled on the sofa, watching the fire crackle and spit, calming the room, and bathing them in warmth and light.
Eventually, Cody heard light snoring coming from Obi-Wan, and knew that the man was asleep.

After the chaotic and fun day Cody had, he didn’t want to move from his warm spot cuddling Obi, and instead opted for them both to sleep on the couch tonight, luckily, they always kept spare blankets at the end of the couch, so he carefully draped that over them both.

Eventually Cody would fall asleep, listening to Obi-Wan’s soft breathing and heartbeat. His last thought of the day being that today was one of the best days he’s had in a long time.
