Chapter Text

Lilly was sitting in the park, thinking about her math homework when a girl she’d never seen before walked up to her, she was a short girl with choppy red hair and green eyes. She sat down beside Lilly on the park bench and looked her in the eye, then she introduced herself.

“Hi, I’m Luna” said the girl, “What’s your name?” she asked.

“I'm Lilly, what are you doing here? I haven't seen you before.” said Lilly.

“I’m here to take you to meet your parents,” Luna told her.

“What do you mean? My parents died when I was a baby.” Lilly said.

“No, actually they're still alive.” Luna told her. "They live on the moon"

“What do you mean? Are they like astronauts or what??? And if they are, since when do astronauts live on the moon?"

“No, they're not astronauts. They’re what you would call aliens but we call ourselves Vagus, I know this must be very confusing but just trust me okay?” said Luna.

“So we're going to the moon?” asked Lilly in disbelief.

“Yes” Luna told Lilly matter of factly.

"Do you live there too?" asked Lilly.

"Yeah." replied Luna

“Huh? You know what- that’s actually kinda cool. How do we get there though? Do I get to go in a rocket? asked Lilly.

“We’re gonna cloud jump, i'll teach you how. Since you’re new to cloud jumping we’ll cloud jump for a bit but you’ll probably get tired pretty quickly so I’ll conjure for you at about 3000 ft." Luna said.

Then she conjured a white fluffy cloud at her feet like it was the sort of thing you’d do every day, how was that even possible? Luna encouraged Lilly to try. At first Lilly didn’t conjure clouds at all and was really very confused as to how this would work but Luna assured her she was getting better, after about 15 tries and some encouragement a small grey cloud appeared above Lilly's head and started to rain on her.

"Ah!" Lilly screamed in surprise. "Now I'm covered in water! Also how did I do that?"

"It's something all of us are born with the ability to do." said Luna

"That's weird- it's almost like magic" said Lilly

Luna seemed to be done answering Lilly's questions so she moved on.

“You can’t jump on rain clouds but that was good! Congratulations, Lilly you have conjured your first cloud. Try again but this time imagine a cloud that isn't so annoyed and frustrated. Your mood affects the type of cloud you create.” said Luna.

Gradually the clouds Lilly had been conjuring became more and more fluffy and less grey. After a while Luna told her that her clouds were good enough to jump on so Lilly tried standing on her cloud. It was one of the weirdest thing she had ever done but surprisingly Lilly had no problem standing on her cloud, it felt like a fluffy pillow. Lilly slipped on the helmet that Luna had given her and Luna slipped on her own helmet. Soon Lilly was climbing higher and higher into the sky, jumping from cloud to cloud until she found that she was getting tired so Luna conjured the clouds for both of them the rest of the way. When they got there Lilly was surprised by how much it resembled the pictures of the moon she had seen online. She had expected there to be some sort of illusion concealing the alien civilization and that they would see it differently than humans did but there were no buildings or anything that looked at all like it was inhabited in sight. Luna led Lilly to a large crater and only when they had climbed into the center of the crater did Lilly notice a metal disc about 2 feet in diameter almost the same colour as the dusty surface of the moon.

“You have to conjure a rain cloud over the disc to open the door. Try it Lilly!” said Luna

Lilly imagined a sad cloud appearing over the strange metal disc. It seemed that luck was on their side! As Lilly conjured the cloud over the metal the cloud disappeared and the metal disc seemed to disintegrate revealing an hole with a ladder leading downward where the metal circle had been.
