Summary:

After one hardly forgettable meeting, Junmyeon works hard as Sehun's designated pain in the ass.

Notes:

I mentioned a confrontation with the Italian mafia. I took this idea from the kdrama Vincenzo but I didn't mention it in the fandoms because I didn't want to mislead anybody.
hehehe I'm a little weird.
also, actually till this point I'm not sure about the genders of the dogs so if I got them wrong just consider them like that in this story.
also I changed the idea for this three times. I think I could've done better but I like it nonetheless. I hope you like it as well, feel free to let me know what you think!
finally I'm bad with titles as well sarreh.

Work Text:

Sehun knew it was too good to be true; there had to be a catch. None of his teammates seemed jealous that he was the one chosen for the trip to France. Well he now knows why, collecting debt and kicking people out of their newly sold houses is much better than running through Paris to look out for the Kim brat.

The brat in question, with the self-preservation decisions of a high rabbit, is now cycling in the middle of Paris as if he wasn’t notified a few days ago that his family has had a fall-out with the Italian mafia over a lawyer of Korean descent. The eldest Kim must’ve known how his brother’s brain works (or how it actually doesn’t), thus sending poor little Sehun, whose efforts to serve the Kims have apparently landed him the honor of babysitting a free spirited grown-ass adult on the hit-list of the freaking Italians.

Stay in school, kids.

His orders were to keep watch, interfere when necessary and wait the orders to come back. He’s been doing just that. But it was exhausting. It’s almost as if Kim Junmyeon is doing all this touring on purpose. He’s been there for three months after all, there’s no reason for him to go from place to place like that.

Sehun already knows who his least favorite Kim is.

He’s been praying to anything with power for the orders to drag him back. He’s had enough, his VIP is stupid, he’s alone which means he’s going to be outnumbered in any conflict and most importantly he misses his dog. And he really really really dislikes Kim Junmyeon.

Someone up there must’ve sympathized with his despair, maybe just for the sake of his dog, because that afternoon, which was nighttime in Seoul, DJ LOEY plays Playboy  in the club Exolution’s Instagram live, which was code for: get your asses to the hangar at four in the morning this night.

The Kims are creative like that.

Relieved, Sehun decides to enjoy his last hours monitoring Kim Junmyeon, he won’t complain about anything. He’ll just monitor him, then at eleven pm he’ll drag his bratty ass across Paris and to the hangar. The next time he opens his eyes, he’ll have Vivi licking his face. The thought paints a smile on his tired face.

Munching on a pastry while keeping watch, Sehun feels like something is wrong. Everything on the bridge he’s on is normal, too normal for comfort. Kim Junmyeon is once again cycling, but everything is too perfect. No one was getting close him. Nothing was being in his way.

Something was definitely wrong.

Sehun revvs up his motorcycle to catch up with him. Maybe he’s being paranoid and blowing his cover, but better be safe than sorry. He catches up, screaming “Chogiwa!” to alert Kim Junmyeon.

The bastard is smiling. He can see his cheeks from the back of his head.

Then he sees it. Dull, dark spikes thrown perfectly on the ground so that they can’t be seen. They want to destroy his tires and maybe eliminate him as he tumbles on his useless bike. Sehun jumps out of his motorcycle just as Kim Junmyeon discards his bike too. He pulls his smaller body to him and twists them, just as a bullet fires. It gets stuck in his bulletproof vest, but it still hurts like a bitch.

More bullets keep firing from all directions. People are now screaming as they duck down. Sehun is laying on top of Kim Junmyeon, who is still clutching him tightly. He forces himself to crawl like that until he reaches the edge of the bridge. Alerting Junmyeon, he counts to three then jumps to the Seine, shielding Junmyeon’s head with his arms from the snipers. His hand gets shot.

They fall into the water. Junmyeon removes his helmet for him because he can’t really move his hand now. The bullets stop and police sirens blare through the place. Junmyeon helps them reach the river bank, nothing is said as they try to catch their breaths.

“How’s that for a first meeting, eh?”

Sehun feels like strangling the smiling idiot in front of him. He’s so calm for someone who almost died a few seconds ago.

Sehun glares at him, not bothering with a response.

The idiot keeps smiling at him.

As he paddles through the edge of the bank, searching for one of the emergency bags he placed all over the city, Kim Junmyeon, who doesn’t take the hint, keeps talking with his annoying soft voice.

“I’m glad to see that our recruitment standards are still high, I have to personally thank my brothers for assigning you,” he falls quiet a little, Sehun still not acknowledging him.

“Did you enjoy the tour I planned for you?” Kim Junmyeon has the nerve to laugh. Of course, it was all intentional. “I felt like it would be a waste for you to come here and just sit a few meters away from me, you’re welcome.”

Sehun feels like punching something. Or someone.

He finally finds the bag. Lifting himself to the land, he lets out a colorful string of curses as he puts pressure on his injured arms and hand. The adrenaline has worn off and all his injuries have weakened him.

Small hands grip his thighs and help him as he tries to lift himself. Standing now, he reluctantly stretches his un-injured hand for Junmyeon to hold to and then pulls him as fast as he can, making him topple over him.

“I love the way we always meet. Hi there, I’m Kim Junmyeon, what about you pretty boy?”

Sehun keeps glaring, “Oh Sehun, get off me please.”

Junmyeon laughs but gets off anyway. Sehun wraps his hand and takes some painkillers. After finding the car whose keys were in the bag, they head to the hangar where a plane awaits to take them back to Korea.

While waiting for the clock to strike four, Sehun is asked approximately a hundred thirty seven questions by Kim Junmyeon while his bullet gets removed. He doesn’t want to admit it but deep deep down, he knows it might’ve helped a little with the pain and stress. Not that it matters.

“So Baekhyun registered you as one of his “emergency models” for the fashion show and you got a visa. I love the four working brain cells our group members have. Aw, Sehunnie, you’d make a great model..”

Modelling doesn’t sound bad. He won’t have a Kim Junmyeon breathing down his neck and disturbing his silence.

They board the plane and fly back home, naturally sitting next to Junmyeon. He can’t sleep just yet, danger might be anywhere. He must stay alert.

Apparently the one sleeping next to him, with his head on his shoulder, doesn’t think so.

……………………………………………………..

Back in Korea, Sehun finally breathes. He would like to forget the past week or so. Maybe also sleep for a week. Maybe also never hear soft voices ever again.

He is woken up by Vivi licking his face. This dog is one of the four reasons he smiles in this life. He’s given three days off to recuperate. Amazing. Three days with nothing to do.

Three days spent in Exolution, the Kim’s club, dancing and letting off steam and touching high-end strangers. He needs distractions after his eventful mission. On the last night, he drinks heavily, against better judgment, and dances the night away with a petite man whose perm almost covers his eyes. As they kiss, his breathless voice is alarmingly soft. Trying to shake off any unneeded images of certain brats, he kisses him deeper and spends the best night he’s had in a long while.

He wakes up to a pounding head, sore muscles and soft breaths tickling him under his ear. He’s on a sofa in the club storage room, which means he’s most likely not going to survive the walk of shame in front of his gang members.

He’s naked and cold and only partially covered by the body next to him. He closes his eyes again and tries to shimmy away without waking up the person next to him.

“Good morning, Sehunnie.”

What in the name of bubble tea.

It’s either that his heavy drinking has damaged his brain beyond repair so he’s imagining things or that he was stupid enough to sleep with Kim Junmyeon of all people, because the aforementioned Kim Junmyeon is now sitting, naked, on the sofa he has just left, casually putting on a ridiculous flamingo patterned shirt around his shoulders.

Sehun opens his mouth but he can’t really think of anything. “I.. I’m. Uh, let’s just. I can’t do this. Bye.”

He’s too hung over for this.

So he bolts out of there, not even bothering to greet any of those whistling and laughing at his unbuttoned shirt and overwhelmed look. When he reaches his apartment, he takes a painkiller, drinks cold water, and heads straight to his punching bag, trying to punch his frustration away. Why the hell did he have to sleep with Kim Junmyeon of all the people in Seoul?

It’s not that he’s shy or that the man is technically his boss. He’s not in a drama. He just can’t believe he’s slept with the person who did nothing but raise his blood pressure for almost two weeks. He thought he’d never have to see him for at least a month or so.

When he wears himself out, he goes to shower. After breakfast he heads to the headquarters to report to his superiors. He’s not surprised to know he’s being summoned by the Kims themselves. He’s almost relieved when he doesn’t see Junmyeon with them. So it’s just the three brothers. Nice.

“Good job bringing back our brother safely, Sehunsshi,” the eldest, Minseok says and they all smile at him. Well then. He nods in return. Feels a little weird that they’re just summoning him to say that.

“A little birdie told us that our hyung has taken a liking to you,” their youngest, Kai, continues, smirking. Jongdae cuts him off, “Yah Kim Jongin! You don’t talk to people like that!”

No.

Sehun doesn’t like this.

Minseok opens his mouth, glaring at his two brothers. “As I was saying, you dealt really well with the situations concerning our brother, so we would like you to keep watching him for the time being. You know how tricky it is out there.”

“Keep watching?” Sehun parrots. Are they asking him to guard Kim Junmyeon once again? Please no.

Jongdae butts in, “keep watching, guarding, just making sure he doesn’t get himself killed.. You know the.. the usual,” he says nonchalantly.

No.

He should’ve known his day was going to be bad if he started it by seeing Kim Junmyeon.

Now how can he tell his bosses that spending another day with their brother would most likely make him get in the line of the people wanting to hurt the brat? He knows he can’t decline. Maybe he can negotiate a better alternative with them.

While he’s thinking of what to say, the door suddenly opens. “Minseok hyung, will you please stop sending me baby sitters? I’m home now, stop sending me people! I don’t like it.”

Oh it’s that annoying voice once again.

“Sehunnie is that you? Leaving without a good morning kiss is not so nice you know,” he casually says. As if he’s discussing breakfast.

“Junmyeonie, stop giving your new guard reasons to kill you,” Minseok says, suppressing his laughs. He’s now joke material. This day keeps getting better and better.

“You’re really assigning Sehunnie to me hyung?” Junmyeon is now next to him, rubbing his shoulder. As if he asked him to.

“What happened to the “I don’t need any babysitters” hyung, huh? Is Sehunsshi that special?”

“Aigoo Jonginnie, you don’t even know half of it.”

Disappearing from the face of earth for six years sounds really appealing right now, Sehun thinks. This way he won’t have to see Kim Junmyeon’s face every day. He also won’t have to put up with the teasing coming with how everybody now knows he’s slept with him.

………………………………………………..

At least his new living arrangements are nice. Junmyeon lives in a luxurious apartment overlooking the Han River. The food is good and Vivi now has a new playmate. Everything is great except for a tiny detail. Kim Junmyeon is still a pain in the ass. A flirty pain in the ass at that. An active, flirty pain in the ass who likes morning workouts and thinks that he has to visit ten different places every day or he’ll die.

He also has the world’s ugliest collection of grandpa sweaters and the sexiest pair of jeans opened at the sides and Sehun doesn’t know how to feel about that.

So far their life has been, consistent. Sehun accompanies Junmyeon in his morning workout, dog walks, shopping trips, museum trip and different tours. By the end of the day, he’s always worn out from the different activities that he can only finish his own workout routine, play a little with poor Vivi, and go to sleep.

Junmyeon keeps suggesting that they sleep in the same room for “security reasons”. Sehun always feels like hitting him whenever he says that, but he doesn’t. Because that’s his boss.

He’s woken up from his afternoon nap by harsh banging against his door. He curses. Junmyeon has supposedly went out with his brothers which means that there was no need for the extra protection, which means that he had the whole afternoon Junmyeon-free. Groggily, he sits up and shouts a “what do you want?”

Junmyeon kicks his door open, throwing Vivi on his bed. Okay boss or not, nobody throws his baby like that. He stands up to teach him a lesson, glaring at him. “What do I want huh? What I want is for you to keep you horny dog away from my Byullie!”

What?

Junmyeon’s glare doesn’t falter. “Your attention seeking horny good for nothing bitch has impregnated my Byullie!”

Is he really describing Vivi?

Sehun is seething. “Yah don’t you dare talk about my Vivi that way. It takes two to tango you know. I see how your bitch keeps hovering around him, don’t blame my baby for acting on your flirty dog’s signals.” It’s the first time he actually screams at him.

This is ridiculous.

Sehun chuckles. It turns to a full blown laugh three seconds later. Junmyeon joins him also. Falling onto the bed and clutching his stomach. He apologizes to Vivi and pets him when their laughing calms.

“You were five seconds away from killing me to defend your dog’s honor.”

“Junmyeonsshi, I’m almost always five seconds away from killing you.”

The next day, as Junmyeon checks on Byul for the night, he finds a box filled with bacon, premium dry food, toys and a cute dog shirt. On the top of the lid ‘Child Support from Oh Vivi’ is messily scribbled. Junmyeon sleeps with a mushy smile on his face.

Sehun is less strict in maintaining a distance after that. Somehow Junmyeon’s bratty attitude is a little more bearable, borderline adorable, but Sehun halts his train of thoughts whenever he thinks that. Junmyeon doesn’t even hide his smugness at Sehun’s new tolerance. He always tries to worm himself into Sehun’s few alone moments as well, namely his night workout.

Yes. Kim Junmyeon spends his evenings ogling Sehun’s sweaty body, and making appreciative comments about it.

The same Sehun who, for the past month has had little to no human contact besides Kim Junmyeon and his teammates.

No biggie.

“You know Sehunnie, I don’t understand why you don’t work out with me. You can spend your evenings doing other things,” Junmyeon starts while unnecessarily wiping down Sehun’s sweaty arms with a towel. Sehun doesn’t know whether he thinks he’s sneaky or believes he’s entitled. He lets him be because, well, why bother?

Sehun resumes bench-pressing. Out of breath he starts, “I won’t be able to watch you well if I’m busy,” he takes a breath, “and your cute little workout routine can maintain your cute butt at best, we can’t work out together,” he smirks.

Junmyeon looks offended. “At least I have a butt,” he proceeds to throw the sweaty towel at Sehun’s face while smirking at Sehun’s lack of retort.

The towel falls off Sehun’s face and he sees the cute butt in question sauntering to the living room probably. He ogles it until Junmyeon disappears. He then shakes his head. The lack of other human interactions is messing with his head.

…………………………………………………..

One evening Junmyeon interrupts Sehun’s workout to tell him that they are going to visit an art gallery in two hours. Sehun finishes his set and heads to shower. The apartment is eerily silent after he finishes getting dressed. He checks his watch, there was still enough time. He calls Junmyeon, but he doesn’t answer. Maybe he’s waiting for him in the car. He feels uneasy.

No one is waiting inside the lobby. No one is waiting in the parking lot and no one is waiting near the car.

No one is answering their phone as well.

Sehun is full-on panicking now. He shouts Junmyeon’s name and searches the whole place. Even calls his other teammates to see if there was a meeting he didn’t know about.

Nothing.

The tracker on his phone says that Junmyeon’s phone is in the vicinity. He’s still shouting his name as he runs to the phone location. He finds a red Ferrari that has always been parked there, flinging the door open, he startles a sleeping Junmyeon, whose cheeks were marked by the steering wheel.

He manhandles him outside the car and pins him to the door.

“What the hell are you doing here? Do you have a single idea how the past twenty minutes passed for me?” Sehun shouts.

Junmyeon gulps, staring at him with wide eyes.

“I, I, uh.. I felt like driving today..” he mumbles in a small voice. Sehun would’ve found it cute if he didn’t almost have a heart attack three minutes ago.

“Then why didn’t you tell me? Do you think it’s funny seeing me run around shouting your name like a madman? Do you think I’m here for your entertainment Kim Junmyeon?”

Junmyeon looks apologetic, “I didn’t hear you.. I, uh, kinda slept?”

“Who sleeps five minutes after getting inside their car? And this car? Really? You’ve never ridden this once? Why didn’t you just let me know, I,” Sehun rubs his forehead and slicks his hair back, with a calm, resigned tone he continues, “just, never mind, get in the freaking car.”

Sehun has his signature icy glare on the whole ride. They don’t say anything, even though Junmyeon keeps glancing at him every five seconds. He almost touches his hand on the gear stick, but he decides against it.

Junmyeon tries to focus on the paintings in front of him, he really tries, but he can’t when he can feel Sehun’s body heat on his side. They have spent a lot of times in silence but this particular silence is making it hard for him to breathe. He doesn’t like the silence. He doesn’t like the brooding look on Sehun’s face because he knows Sehun is actually upset.

He doesn’t like how Sehun has an invisible shield between them even if they’re practically pressed together.

He can feel his body heat, but he’s so far away.

Everything is a blur as he greets people and hums to small talk he doesn’t care enough about to remember.

When they exit the gallery he tells Sehun that he’d like to walk around a little. God knows he needs some oxygen before being trapped with a broody, unresponsive Sehun for the whole ride back. Sehun says nothing; he just waits for him to start walking for him to trail behind.

Junmyeon doesn’t know what’s worse, their hypothetical distance in the gallery or the actual distance right now. He throat feels closed up. He realizes that he doesn’t like knowing that Sehun is upset at him.

He stops walking. Sehun stops as well. He turns to him. His glare has lost some of its edge.

“Why are you so mad at me?” he says when he reaches him, “I don’t like it,” he confesses.

Sehun’s eyes widen a little, “I’m not mad at you,” he answers in a soft tone. It’s the softest he’s heard Sehun ever speak.

The full moon is high in the sky. The wind is playing with the strands of Junmyeon’s soft hair. His red oversized jacket makes him look even smaller in front of Sehun with his wide shoulders and black leather jacket. Hypothetically speaking, it would’ve been a nice moment to hug in the silence of the night to soothe their shaken selves.

But they don’t hug. Sehun puts his hand on Junmyeon’s shoulder and leads him back to the car saying that it’s getting cold, and for now, this was more than enough.

The ride back to the apartment is silent as well, but they’re both relaxed. They pass by a restaurant a get takeout for dinner. Back at the apartment, they play with their sleepy dogs a little and eat dinner quietly.

Junmyeon is unsure of how to proceed and Sehun doesn’t even know what he’s feeling on the inside.

Junmyeon goes to the floor-to-ceiling windows the show the river. Sehun has advised him against opening anything and he smiles at the memory. They went from heated to awkward to nonchalant to warm and then to this uncharacterized setting in such a short time, but they’ve gone a long way.

Junmyeon feels two arms circling his waist and pulling his back to Sehun’s warm chest. He’s startled at first, he never imagined Sehun to be the one initiating anything between them. Smiling, he melts into the embrace, without turning his head or saying anything.

Sehun puts his chin on top of his head, “do you dislike this?” he sounds hesitant, almost afraid. It’s adorable, Junmyeon thinks.

“For such a pretty person, you’re really stupid Sehunnie.”

He feels him chuckle.

Junmyeon turns in Sehun’s arms so that he’s facing him. The moon is casting a glow on Sehun’s handsome face and it’s making this moment much more intense.

He doesn’t say anything, he just smiles brightly at him and lays his head on his chest, trying to catch his heartbeat. He feels the ghost of a kiss to his hair. Junmyeon decides here and then that’s it’s one of the best moments in his whole life.

That night, they agree to sleep in the same room for the ‘security reasons’ Junmyeon mentioned before. As they cuddle, Sehun is playing with Junmyeon’s hair. Their mouths are hurting from how much they’re smiling.

“So you weren’t mad at me”

“I told you I wasn’t”

“You were mad you lost me,” Junmyeon sing-songs.

“…”

“Oh my god Sehunnie you do care about me!”

“Of course I do you’re my responsibility”

“Sure, keep telling yourself that”

“You’re annoying”

“No I’m Junmyeon”

“You’re not funny”

“I just told you that I’m Junmyeon”

“Let me sleep”

Junmyeon burrows closer, as if possible, to Sehun then. After a long stretch of silence, he speaks up, “you know I keep thinking about how hot it was when you dragged me out and pinned me to the car. I was still sleep-drunk I almost thought you were going to kiss me.”

Sehun is relieved no one can see him blush in the dark, trying to sound unbothered he tells Junmyeon to shut up and sleep.

“I know from experience that you’re a good kisser Sehunnie. I’ll have a field day thinking about that.”

“If you don’t shut up I’ll suffocate you with my armpit.”
