Work Text:

"Aren't you hungry?" asked Mycroft.

"Yes, I am, I'm just not used to such large portions, I guess." said Greg casually, not wanting Mycroft to know how nervous he was.

As a detective, he'd been in many dangerous situations, sometimes close to death, he hadn't been afraid to face kidnappers and other threatening suspects, but here, in front of the person he loved the most in the world, he was scared to death.

Mycroft gently laid his hand on his in the middle of the table, "If you're not feeling well, we can go home. Restaurant or not, the important thing is to spend time together."

Mycroft was just so perfect.

And Greg was going to ask this perfect man to share his life, forever.

Feeling the pressure of the small box against his thigh, Greg suddenly felt like he couldn't breathe.

"Sorry, I need some fresh air," he stood up abruptly under Mycroft's confused expression and hurried out of the restaurant.

How was he going to explain this to Mycroft without worrying him?

Greg gasped as he walked out into the cool night, and tried to force himself to breathe air deeply through his nose and then expel it through his mouth.

He repeated the process until he calmed down.

He startled when a hand came to rest on his shoulder.

Mycroft.

He turned to him and saw his worried face.

"Greg, are you okay?"

Greg leaned against him, nodding, and Mycroft's hand slid down his back and held him close. Greg wrapped his arms around his waist and with his face in Mycroft's neck, he whispered softly, " I'm better. Even better now that you're here."

Mycroft kissed Greg's temple before guiding him to the parking lot. "Let's get the car and go home. I'll drive. You rest."

Greg nodded in agreement. He usually liked to drive, but after what had just happened, it was wiser to let Mycroft take the wheel.

Passing his hand over the little bump that the little box in his pocket was making, he swallowed. Hopefully his plan would work.

When they both entered their house and headed for the living room, Greg couldn't hold back. He didn't want to wait any longer, he turned to Mycroft and took his hand, "Mycroft, I had planned something romantic, but I realize that it doesn't matter. What is important is that I know you're the one thing keeping me sane right now. It's that I can't imagine growing old with anyone else, and I don't want to. I know you're the only person I want to share the rest of my life with. You deserve the best, someone who will support you without limits, let you grow without boundaries and love you endlessly. I want to be that person, will you let me be?"

He didn't notice he was crying until Mycroft raised his hand to wipe away his tears. He left his hand on her cheek as he answered, obviously moved as well, "I don't need a romantic atmosphere, no roses, no soft music, I just need you to be you. Just like you are right now. My brave love. And how could I say no to that? How could I say no to a future with you."

Greg, a trembling smile on his lips, asked, "So it's a yes?"

Mycroft replied softly, "It is yes, Greg, yes I will marry you."

He leaned in and pressed his lips to Greg's, who wrapped his arms around his neck, gently burying his fingers in Mycroft's hair as the kiss deepened. Greg couldn't help but whimper when Mycroft pulled back a little as he whispered against his lips, panting, "I love you."

Greg felt his throat tighten as he saw the love in Mycroft's eyes as he said the words. He couldn't help but answer back, "I love you," his lips curling up in a wide smile.

They met again in another kiss.

The kiss lingered until they lost track of time.

Greg had forgotten the little box in his pocket.

But it was all right, they had all the time in the world, all the life. Together.
