amphibia: the musical (?)

Summary:

so basically I was taking a break from working on my actual musical project, and I was watching amphibia, and I was like "gee, I wonder how this structurally would track into an actual show?" and then one motif chart later, I realized I was actually going ahead and, like. writing this now. so for the time being this is just going to have lyrics and little notes on motifs and their evolution, but as I go I'm probably gonna write a full book and lyrics for it eventually??? anyway this is just to get feedback while I work, so I can improve and stay motivated!!

Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Chapter 1: "home" (season one, near-ish the beginning to establish character)

Chapter Text

ANNE

I wanna go home.

It feels childish to say

but I miss my Mom.

She was kind, but strict in her way

and I wanna go home

but for now I have to stay.

Just hold on, Mom.

I’m coming home.

I’ve got all two worlds to lose

I just want something to hold on to —

the storm is growing restless out my window.

Sometimes light needs something to pass through

for the colors to make a rainbow.

That’s what I am for my friends in the end.

And what I’d give to have the chance

to see them both again —

just hold on

I’m coming home.

I’m coming home!

Just you wait, I’m running

through the wailing storm and thunder

I’m on my way!

I’m running home!

To that spot past the horizon

with one eye open and on the sky

I’m on my way!

But if I go, what do I leave behind?

Will I ever see this swamp again?

I never knew it’d be this complicated.

Hey, Sash, are you there?

I dunno if you care, but

I don’t know what to do without you.

Hey, Mar-Mar, where are you?

Are you stuck in this weird, crazy place too?

I hope we’re all home soon.

And when we’re there

this’ll all be no big deal!

Just you wait —

we’ll wake up and it won’t be real.

It’s just me;

this can’t be real.

I’m coming home!

Just you wait, I’m running

through the wailing storm and thunder

I’m on my way!

I’m running home!

To that spot past the horizon

with one eye open and on the sky

I’m on my way!

Mom, Sash, Marcy —

just wait a little longer.

I’m on my way.
