Chapter Text
Jinx:
All right, who’s gonna play support?
Vi:
I’ll go jungle
Jinx:
You always go jungle, you’re worthless
Vi:
Love you too sis
Cait:
I’ll go mid
Jinx:
Your champion is clearly meant to solo, wtf Cait
Cait:
Do you doubt my abilities, Jinx?
Jinx:
I just don’t wanna ruin this, this is our chance to get noticed and accepted into the Pro League
Like, there’ll be observers and stuff
Ekko:
All right, I’ll swap with Cait and go solo lane
Too bad we’re missing our support
Jinx:
This is why my question was rhetorical
Stupid Sera, ditching us for a stupid concert
Again!
Ekko:
Well, she is a fucking pop star, Jinx
Jinx:
Youtube star
That’s lame
Ekko:
You’re just salty cuz you never became a streamer
Jinx:
Who needs streamers
I wanna be a pro
Participating in tournaments
Winning big cash
Vi:
Did you seriously unironically say ‘big cash’?
Jinx:
Fuck you sis
I’m the fucking adc
I can’t play without a support!
Cait:
Well, matchmaking is always an option
Jinx:
Psh
Elites don’t play matchmaking
The stupid game won’t even give us anyone
Or give us a Golden rank or sth
Vi:
Well, we don’t have a choice, do we?
Jinx leans back in her chair and groans, almost about to toss her headphones aside. Why the fuck did Seraphine have to be all “oh nooo I have a concert sorry guys” when it is clear that selections only happen once a year?
Jinx loves playing Star Guardians Online. She wants nothing more in life than to become a pro. And today is Selection Day, which means that today there are observers present in the servers, and they are paying special attention to Platinum Challenger Pro players.
Jinx, being the highest rank, Platinum Challenger Pro+, is almost certain that she is gonna get her team into a contract after today’s game. (Except maybe Sera, because the stupid singer chose her stupid career over video games, how could she.)
With another loud groan — that, no doubt, reaches the other room where Cait and Vi are cuddling with their phones — Jinx taps the giant 7-inch screen of her gaming phone and launches matchmaking for the support position.
Stupid. This is so stupid. For her, playing with Goldens is like being this awesome engineering major who gets to hang out with kindergarteners. And yet there’s no other option because Platinums have their own teams and don’t ever go into Matchmaking, at best she’ll get a lone Platinum Challenger— no, not even that, today’s too important of a day for lazy solo playing, everyone’s on their A-game today.
Everyone but them. Because of stupid Seraphine.
Suddenly, the screen announces that a Support champion has been found. Jinx glares at her phone, which, despite a dedicated cooling system, is already heating up. Still better than newbies who play on iPhones or tablets.
Suddenly, she almost does a spit-take on her gatorade.
Your Match: Lux_Crownguard
Rank: Platinum Challenger Pro+
W 597
L 315
Vi:
Did you guys see that?
Ekko:
Fuck they’re better than Jinx!
Jinx:
That’s just stats!
Cait:
Aren’t we playing because of stats?
Jinx:
Shut up, you sister-fucker, you don’t have a say in this!
Yet the game is already starting and Jinx is fully focused, giving her thumbs a gentle stretch so her forearms relax for the battle to come. Immediately, she buys her initial item and runs to the Duo lane, followed by Lux_Crownguard’s champion.
Immediately, Jinx hides in the bushes, and Lux (for simplicity’s sake) is close behind. They’re playing Pro, and there’s an observer present, so the other team is just as cautious. Someone has to come out first. Someone has to start farming the gold.
With a sharp intake of breath, Jinx walks out of the bush, firing at the minions who are engaged in a mindless battle in the middle of the lane. Almost immediately, the enemy ADC appears, firing at her.
Jinx dodges the attack, and almost hisses at the fact that her support is still cowardly hiding in the bushes. Maybe she’s just a lucky bastard (why is Jinx thinking of them as ‘her’? Must be Violet’s lesbian genes) who got to where she is by hiding behind her teammates.
The enemy support surfaces not far away, firing at Jinx with all they have, and Jinx can no longer dodge both attacks, instead deciding to engage and maybe suffer First Blood as a casualty.
Then, suddenly, when Jinx is already at half health, Lux appears from the bushes and starts firing magical missiles from her wand, one by one, hitting the enemy ADC and support interchangeably.
She’s gonna die, Jinx realises with a pang of pity, 1-on-2 never works for supports, and Vi is too busy slaying the Dragon in the jungle to come to their aid in the Duo lane.
Yet something short of a miracle happens: Lux fights like a bot, but a magnificent bot that has the precision of a robot and the brains of a human. Launching her staff to defend herself every 10 seconds, she launches a series of devastating attacks at the enemy ADC and support, soon joined by Jinx, who is going all in, knowing that her support has got her back.
The two players deal with the enemies fast enough to push to the turret and take it down with no damage taken. Since the in-game chat is off (after all Jinx has her discord chat with her teammates), Jinx flashes a thumbs-up to her support and starts a recall, followed by Lux, who also starts recalling.
Back at the base, the two players push mid, where the majority of enemy champions are located. Lux is a goddess (or a god, but Jinx selfishly hopes it’s a girl) at dishing out damage and protecting her teammates — even Caitlyn who is a gross sister-fucker but is all right nevertheless.
The match is over in under 20 minutes, and Jinx gets a notification, The Observer 5DA56 has requested your contact information. Letting out a cheerful ‘whoo’, mirrored by a much more reserved sound coming from Vi and Cait’s bedroom, thanks to the soundproofing, which — Jinx shudders — is a necessity with how frisky those two are, the girl shares their team’s contact info.
Quickly, before the support player can leave the lobby, Jinx writes up a message in the post-game chat.
GetJinxedOfficial:
Hey, @Lux_Crownguard?
Gg wp!
Lux_Crownguard:
Thank you!
Honestly, you’re the best adc I’ve ever had the honour of supporting
Jinx feels something warm poor in her chest, something more than sheer pride. Then, without thinking, Jinx sends the next message even if she doesn’t mean to.
GetJinxedOfficial:
Your team must be super lucky
Wish I had you as our support!
Lux_Crownguard:
Oh, I don’t have a team
I usually play match-making
Jinx stares at the screen in disbelief, then an idea hit her, and before she can doubt herself, the girl quickly types:
GetJinxedOfficial:
You really need to join our team
I’ll send you the invite!
We’ll be going pro soon
After what the observer saw today, I’m sure they’ll reach out to us
Stupid stupid stupid! Jinx chides herself immediately, dropping the phone on her desk. What if she doesn’t wanna go pro? What if she—
Then the screen lights up again.
Your invite has been accepted.
GetJinxedOfficial:
Wow Luxie, that’s amazing! We’re gonna make a great team! Lemme send you the invite to our discord server.
Lux_Crownguard:
Okay! I’d love to play with you guys!
Also it’s sweet that you call me Luxie, but I’m into girls :3
Jinx is happy she is no longer drinking her gatorade because a spit-take would be inevitable. Thankfully, Jinx isn’t drinking her gatorade, and she is also not a gay mess like her stupid sister, so she confidently types a response.
GetJinxedOfficial:
I’m a girl!
Who’s into girls!
Haha
Fuck fuck fuck that was so cringe what was I even thinking—
Suddenly, her phone lights up with a response.
Lux_Crownguard:
Oh how nice!
I am also a girl!
Who’s into girls!
Haha
See you in Discord!
Then immediately Jinx sees the message, Lux_Crownguard disconnected. Taking a deep breath and putting her phone to charge, Jinx groans and leaves the room.
Vi and Cait are already waiting for her in the kitchen with giant grins on their stupid lovestruck faces. Fuck, of course, the chat was visible to everyone. Which means she’s also gonna hear some teasing from Ekko later.
Caitlyn tests the grounds with an “I take it we have a new player on our team? Someone who you find—”
“Shut up Cait, you’re our fucking sheriff, you don’t have a say in this.”
Vi joins in, not in the least dissuaded from her sisterly duties. “Sooo, did you just try to flirt and then spelled out ‘haha’ in the chat?”
“Shut up sis, you’re fucking our sheriff, you don’t have a say in this.”
Both women jingle with laughter at how red Jinx is, her face practically a beetroot at this point. “Come on guys, it’s just a girl, and I’m just a girl, and, and yes I get obsessed easily, but did you see how she was playing?”
“Yes, Jay,” Vi provides with another smile, taking a bite of her protein waffle. “Truly a match made in heaven.”
“More like,” Caitlyn adds, “a match made by the game’s matchmaking system.”
“Oooh, good one!” Vi giggles and presses a disgusting kiss to her girlfriend’s lips, eliciting a ‘bleh’ from Jinx.
“I hate you guys,” Jinx mumbles, grabbing Vi’s waffle just to spite her.
“No you don’t!” Vi and Cait sing-song in unison.
Jinx smirks and shakes her head with a sigh. “No I don’t.”
