lull me into a dreamless night

Summary:

The Traveler goes back to Mondstadt after a tiring day.

-----

Aka Venti sings the Traveler to sleep, but implied, cause I didn't have enough space left to continue the drabble :)

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

The soft winds of Mondstadt usually lulled everyone to sleep during the night, due to their peaceful nature. They never howl or speak anything else but small whispers of hope. One could walk down the main street, passing the potted flowers that seemed to sway to the rhythm of the breeze, witnessing the few people here and there, wandering, patrolling, or simply collecting all of the coins their sick sister threw into the main fountain (that was just Anthony, though, the Traveler noted). It was peaceful.

If they cared to, they could tell the time by looking at Marjorie's clock, though they didn't bother. They simply swayed from left to right, honestly too tired to walk, but still not sleepy, trying to find any place that would let them and their tiny pixie companion stay for the night. The aforementioned pixie was already sound asleep in their backpack, slightly snoring every two or so breaths. It has been a long day, indeed. Though that didn't seem to affect them; for the Traveler was immune to the lull of the winds.

The only institution in Mondstadt that was anything like an Inn, was the Goth Grand Hotel. Sadly, the place was completely infested with Fatui agents, and those who had no affiliation with them were not allowed to enter under any circumstances. So even if they walked up the countless rows of stairs in the main square, simply to get to the hotel, they would either get into a fight, or just roughly turned away. The journey through all of these lands was exhausting enough, for dealing with the Fatui in general was prone to cause a headache. So they didn't even try going there. Instead, they walked up the stairs of Mondstadt regardless, dragging their feet with every step, up to the Cathedral.

It was usual for them to seek the huge statue made in the likeness of the person they always met on nights like these. Where they always answered his questions the same way, no matter what they were, each time:

" I can't sleep. Will you sing me a song, Barbatos?"

Notes:

Hi again; been a while. It's like 4 am while I'm typing this up, so forgive me if I sound a bit out of it, lmao. Anyway, I really liked this drabble I wrote (instead of working on the fic that I actually wanted to post today, but eh, y'all will live without it for another week or so) in the daily drabbles of the Fanfiction Library discord server; the prompt this time being "I can't sleep".

Yes, I'm back at it again with the prompts, lmao. You'll probably see me posting a lot more often/regularly here. I'll try to cross-post all of my fics on the other three (maybe 4/5/6, but FFnet, Quotev and Deviantart are still under speculation for now). Those being my Tumblr (you can thank TeaAndScones for my addiction to it), Hoyolab account and Wattpad. Don't know when I'll get around to doing those, but hey, they'll be cross-posted fine at some point.

In each case, I hope you enjoyed the fic; and until next Sunday! (or Monday morning 4 am, lmao)
