bets

Summary:

"I think I owe you dinner."

He looked at her confused.

"I got spotted first unless you want to do other activities," she said while smirking.

"As much as Id love that I want my free dinner."

Notes:

I'm doing my reread of winter soldier (2012) and they never showed us them going to eat breakfast or maybe they never got to have a chance. I forgot what happened in volume 2, and we all know they didn't see each other for years after this run was over. So I just wanted a cute fluffy moment with my babies. I don't say any spoilers about the comic, so you can still read it if you haven't read it.

Work Text:

It was after they found the two sleepers, they were both exhausted. And they would leave finding the third and final one for another day. But right now what they had to deal with was much worse. Making Nat go to a pancake because of their amazing bet.

Although she said ‘No PanCake Houses’ that just made Bucky crave pancakes so much more.

She was sitting on the bed completely naked which again wow. She truly was everything to him. But she had her thinking face on.

She couldn't stop thinking about their mission and how much it was affecting him. She understands better than anyone. But what if he goes too far? What if he can’t stop? What if finding this final sleeper isn't enough?

He knew that look on her face and wanted to tell her he was fine and they'd look for the third sleeper another day. For now, they did well.

But she spoke first, “I think I own you dinner.”

“What are you talking about? If anything I should be buying you dinner. You saved my ass and you helped me. I owe you so much.”

She got up from the bed and held a finger to his lips, “You would do the same for me, James. And I got spotted first so it's only fair.”

He had completely forgotten. “Right let me get changed and I'll take you to my favorite pancake house.”

Her eyes got huge, “No don't you dare.”

He laughed, “I'm just kidding Nat. We’ll find something.”

They were now sitting in some restaurant, they went to the first one they could find.

Bucky was eating pancakes and she was eating dinner. He was too hungry to see what she was eating.

The thing about being world-known assassins is that they both have to be always undercover. And well he was supposed to be dead. And when your dead you can do things so much easier.

She was wearing her brown wig and since he was always in his suit when the world knew him, he didn't need a disguise because he was the disguise.

“This shits gonna cost me a lot huh,” Nat asked.

He laughed, “oh yeah, maybe don't get seen so soon.”

She rolled her eyes and continued to eat.

It was just them, in disguise. Eating. Sure the restaurant had a lot of chatter. It was about 9 at the night. But it just felt normal for once. They were peaceful eating as if they didn't save their country from another war.

When they were finished she got up to pay in cash of course.

She walked back to the table and said, “all done.”

Bucky nodded and they both walked out of the restaurant. Hand and hand, more in love than when they were in the red room.

They got to see the end to the bet, one Natasha didn't think they would be able to.

She rested her head on his shoulder as he drove them home on their motorcycle.

Back then she never really thought she could call a place home for her and him. But now she can, and now they are heading to their home. Together. And even though this war isn't over yet, at least they have each other. And their stupid bets.
