Let The Phoenix Sing

Summary:

*You must have read the first part of this series 'My Final Song For You, Dear Brother' before starting with this one.

Venti, the President of Winding Ballads Productions, received an invitation from the yearly band tournament called Teyvat’s Rocking Stars. The groups that they invited are The Unusuals and the Unlucky Fang. There are also few groups going to this tournament, Inteyvat included.

This part will also show Kaeya’s days of recovery and Aether’s plan after the tournament.

Chapter 1

Summary:

Diluc and the others await any news about Kaeya. Diluc couldn’t help but let the anxiety run inside his mind.

Notes:

I have twitter btw! I’ve been planning to draw how the characters in this series would look like and post them in my twitter but I dunno when yet because I’m so moody when it comes to drawing lol anyway, feel free to follow or chat with me :3 @vantan_sora

Also, I just want to say that the symptoms of the Vocal Cord Paralysis here might be a little… exaggerated-

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Diluc was pacing around the hallways as they waited for the doctor to come out of Kaeya’s room. Aether sighs as he watches him.

“Calm down will you?” Aether grumbled at him.

Diluc glares at him, “How do you expect me to calm down? Kaeya is inside, unconscious and hurt! And we don’t know if he’s doing alright or not!” Diluc snapped. ‘And it’s all because of me!’ he screamed inside of his head as he gritted his teeth.

Lumine looks up from where she was sitting, frowning. “I agree with Aether, Mister Ragnvindr. Pacing around won’t do anything.” she told him.

Diluc just grumbles under his breath as he continues to pace around. The doctor finally went out, talking with Jean. Diluc stopped with his pacing and looked at the two doctors. They listened to their conversations and all Diluc could feel was fear and worry.

“He’ll need to stay here for a few days so we can monitor his condition. After that, we’ll see if he’ll need the surgery. Vocal Cord Paralysis normally heals on its own but since his vocal cords are severely damaged, surgery might be needed.” the Doctor told Jean.

Jean nodded, “But for a surgery… Don’t we need a specialist for that?”

“Yes, that is why he needs to move to Liyue’s Medical Center if a surgery is truly needed. Dr. Baizhu is a specialist that I know, he’s not just a knowledgeable pharmacist but he’s also an amazing and skilled surgeon. There is still a chance for him to avoid that kind of surgery but it's a small chance...” the Doctor replied before looking at the others, “I will let you explain it to them. I apologize as I have other patients I need to attend to, Doctor Gunnhildr.”

Jean smiles, “It’s quite alright, thank you.”

The Doctor bows his head to them before walking away. Diluc and Aether walked towards Jean with worries present in their eyes. Jean sighs as she gestures to them to sit down so they did. Aether sits between Lumine and Paimon while Diluc just leans on the wall near them.

“How’s Kaeya, Doctor Gunnhildr?” Aether asked.

Jean smiles sweetly to Aether, “Just call me Jean, you are a friend of Kaeya after all… Kaeya is currently asleep right now but he’s still having some difficulty with breathing. His coughing would often happen but thankfully it’s not that much as before.” Jean answered with a sigh.

“Jean… you and the other Doctor were talking about a… surgery…” Diluc slowly said but his voice was shaking a bit.

Jean nodded, “We are not yet sure about the surgery that’s why we have to monitor him for a few days. If there's no sign about his vocal cords recovering then he might need the surgery.”

Diluc gulps his nervousness as he asks another question, “Is it… a safe procedure?”

Jean smiles, “It is indeed safe but we need a specialist for it. That’s why we’ll have to move Kaeya to Liyue if he truly needs the surgery.”

“Oh, Liyue has the biggest hospital, right?” Paimon asked, Jean nodded. She looks at Diluc, smiling. “Then you don’t have to worry, Mister Ragnvindr! I’ve heard that Liyue’s doctors are very skilled, we can leave Kaeya in their hands~”

Lumine smiles before hugging Paimon, “Aww~ Paimon is so sweet~” she said as she nuzzles Paimon’s cheek with hers.

Diluc looks away, slowly calming down. “I-If that’s the case… then I’ll put my trust in them when that day comes.”

Paimon smirks, “Good!”

Jean smiles, “Well, if some of you would like to stay in Kaeya’s room, that is alright. Kaeya won’t be able to wake up in two to three hours though because of his exhaustion.” she told them, sighing tiredly. “Still, that was so reckless of him. I’ll have to return to Thousands Wind Temple and talk with President Venti about Kaeya’s condition. I know his bandmates are very worried. They’ll want to know his condition quickly.”

“We’ll be coming back too then. And no buts, Aether.” Lumine glares at her twin.

Aether pouts, “But I want to stay…”

Lumine shakes her head, standing up. “I think we should leave Kaeya with his estranged brother for now.” she said, glancing at Diluc who looked at her with surprise.

Aether quickly catches up with her intention. He grins and puts an arm around her shoulder, “Oh! What a brilliant idea, sister!”

Paimon giggled before she stood up. Diluc looks at Jean as if he wanted to say something to her but the young doctor just shakes her head.

“You… better talk with Kaeya. I know he won't be able to speak once he wakes up but he’d like it if you’ll talk with him. But if I ever heard from the nurses here that you’re hurting him again, I will ban you from entering his room, okay?” Jean told Diluc with a stern voice. Aether also looked at him with a small glare.

“I.. I won’t hurt him, I promise. I’ll try to talk to him…” Diluc replied.

Jean stares at him before smiling, “Alright.” she said before leaving with the three Inteyvat members.

Diluc takes a deep breath before entering Kaeya’s room. His breath hitches after seeing his little brother on the bed, an oxygen mask over his mouth. After composing himself again, he quietly pulls a chair towards the bed and sits down, holding Kaeya’s warm hand.

Jean and the others soon arrived at the venue, it’s no longer as crowded as before. Some were sitting on the steps of the temple, still sobbing for what they had witnessed. The four of them head backstage and Venti immediately sees their arrival.

“Doctor Jean!” Venti exclaimed, getting the attention of the others.

Dainsleif made his way towards Aether, smiling at the group. “We’re able to calm their fans and reassure them that The Unusuals’ vocalist is going to be alright. But I’m sure this would raise a lot of… rumors and posts in social media. President Venti is currently receiving a lot of emails and messages in their agency’s email and twitter.”

Aether nods, “I see… That would be a lot of work, President Venti. Good luck.” he told Venti, grinning.

Venti sighs, “Gee, thanks… Thank you, Dainsleif, for helping us.”

Dainsleif just nodded before facing Aether, “Aether, we better head back soon.”

Aether seemed to hesitate at first but agreed anyway. Soon Inteyvat left, leaving Venti and the members of The Unusuals with Jean.

“How’s Kaeya?” Albedo was the first one to ask, trying to stay calm but he couldn't help but sweat in nervousness.

Jean shows a reassuring smile, “He’s stable now, currently asleep. Diluc’s with him-”

Xinyan and Hu Tao’s eyes widened, “That wine tycoon is there?!” they both exclaimed.

Jean sighs, “You don’t have to worry. Diluc is there to watch over Kaeya, he won’t hurt him.”

“B-But this is because of him! It’s because he won’t even try to understand Kae and try to mend their relationship!” Hu Tao exclaimed in anger. “Why did you allow him to stay there?!”

“I know you are worried but trust me… I know Diluc. Also with Kaeya’s condition right now, he wouldn’t be able to do anything.” Jean calmly told Hu Tao.

Hu Tao just looks away, glaring now at the light stand she found. “I still won’t forgive him…” she grumbles.

“Well… I am actually a little relieved to know that Diluc finally decided to care for Kaeya.” Venti said, earning a pout from Hu Tao.

Xinyan just puts her hands on her hip, a frown on her face. “I kind of agree with Hu Tao though. If it’s me, I wouldn’t want that man near our brother.”

Jean smiles, ‘How overprotective… I just hope Diluc can earn the trust of Kaeya’s new family.’ She clears her throat, getting their attention. “So, Kaeya will have to stay in the Cathedral’s Medical Center for a few days so me and the other Doctors can monitor him. He… might need surgery and we might need to move him to Liyue for that.”

A few gasps were heard from the group, “S-Surgery?” Chongyun asked, voice trembling. Xingqiu also looked as nervous as the others.

“Yes. His vocal cords were paralized… It could heal naturally with time but since his vocal cords are severely damaged, he might need surgery. There’s a well known specialist in Liyue and he can perform the surgery safely. I heard he’s pretty skilled.” Jean reassured them but even she was nervous about it. One of the possible surgeries that Kaeya might need is a Tracheostomy and it can be risky especially if done in an emergency situation. But if there are signs of recovery on Kaeya’s vocal cords then they might be able to avoid that kind of surgery.

But the information she said eased their worries. Chongyun and Xingqiu’s nervousness slowly faded while the two girls sighs in relief. Venti knows better though, thinking about the risk feared him but he has to stay calm so the others wouldn’t ask then panic after.

“Are there any visitation hours?” Venti asked.

“None really, you can visit him anytime. Just don’t go too early or too late in the night.” Jean answered, chuckling a bit.

“Hehe, of course. Well guys, you heard the young doctor! But don’t crowd Kaeya’s room when you visit! Better go in pairs.” Venti told the members of The Unusuals.

They nodded, “Okay, Pres!”

Jean soon left and after cleaning up the stage, Venti and the others also returned to their agency.
