Work Text:

Emma's house's front door closes quickly after she passes through it. While she was ensuring that all her school supplies were in the backpack, she ran in a hurry.

"I hope class hasn't started yet!" She said to herself, looking to both sides before crossing the road. "I'm sure Norman will tell me off!"

Entering the place where endless teenagers were talking to each other, she immediately saw her two best friends. Emma approached them, and before she could say anything, she paused for breath.

The first thing Ray noticed were some dark circles under her eyes (it seemed like she tried to hide them with makeup, but it was still perceptible), and the second thing was the tiredness in her face. He giggled and she frowned.

"You've became an early riser, hm?" He knew the answer, but tried anyway.

"Uh… no?" Ray laughed again, but louder, attracting Norman's attention.

"You're late, Emma." Said with a smile on his face, which made her roll her eyes, thinking: "I imagined you would say that" . "But you look tired. It's from studying all weekend for the test, I believe?"

She was hoping they'd stop questioning everything, because if she said the truth, she would get scolded, and if she lied, they would just make more questions. Sigh. The two of them were holding back the laughs and she noticed that.

"You guys want to refute me." Emma thought.

"Yep, I studied a lot!" So, after all, she chose to lie.

Norman nodded and, when the alarm sounded, he went to the classroom. Emma would follow him, but Ray grabbed her hand and said:

“I know you spent the whole night watching cartoons, so I advise you to reread the subjects." Smiled, letting her behind.

"Argh! You two are annoying!"  She whispered, trying to reach the boys.

When they three got into the classroom, they sat in their desks, but before Emma could grab her book to start studying, the teacher entered with the usual "good morning", handing over the exams to every student.

Okay. She had one hour to fill in those three sheets of paper, it couldn't be that hard (at least, not when you study for a History test.)

Just seeing the piece of paper in front of her, Emma was wanting to give it in blank to the teacher, because she didn't know the first "question": the date. Was there a way for an exhausted person that didn't look at the calendar to know today's date?

"I think it'll be better if I just leave it to the end."

Due to past classes, she could remember some of the answers (only parts of them, though), so half of the questions were answered in less than 20 minutes. Everything was working really well, but unfortunately, a student's happiness disappears as quickly as it appears.

"What the heck?" She put her hands on her forehead, trying to think.

Looking to her classmates, she noticed that everyone was calm while taking the test, and some of them had already finished it. Maybe it was too easy, but she didn't drink enough coffee to say it?

Now there was just one option, something that never passed through her mind.

She looked at the teacher, then moved her body to the edge of the chair, approaching the boy that was on her right. After certifying that no one was staring at them, she whispered:

"Norman—"

"I know what you're going to say, and I'm not telling you the answer." He gently smiled, paying attention to his test.

Emma huffed, making some of the kids look at her. She pretended to remember the answer and write it, which helped some way, since everyone stopped glancing at her.

The next victim couldn't be other than the black-haired boy, but Ray was at the opposite side of the room, making it impossible for them to talk. However, he was always observing everything around him, and when he looked at Emma, she instantly muttered: "Ray, gimme the answer?"

Instead of replying the same way she did, he decided to write something in the back of the third paper. When finished, Emma tried to read it, with some difficulty due to the light pencil lead, but what she read was: " Sorry, I can't lend you an eraser. You never return my things."

"You can't be serious!"

At that point, she wondered if they just didn’t want to help her or if they were plotting against her, but Emma was more preoccupied about the grade she would get on the test. Well, she had already screwed up when forgot to study, so all she could do was guess the answers, fill everything and hope for the best — and that’s exactly what she did.

An hour had passed and the tests had already been corrected. When the class was over, the teacher asked Emma to stay because she wanted to talk to her, so there they were.

“I will get to the point. You forgot to study, right?” the teacher asked, with Emma’s test in her hands.

“Yes…”

“I noticed it.” She pointed at one of the answers. “You said that the English defeated the Potato Force in 1588.”

Maybe Emma really had no idea of what she was doing.
