"Are you sure about it ?"
"It's already the third time you asked me that ... Yes Lilac, my decision is taken."
"It is permanent, you know that ?"
"Of course I do. But my scar is going to be permanent too, so I might as well cover it up with something beautiful."
"..."
It had been five years. Five years ever since Lilac was tasked to kill Cream Yogurt by his own brother, to erase an innocent life because he was getting in the way. It's not like Lilac thought much of it back then. Killing people was just how he lived. He didn't care about getting blood on his hands, will it be from an innocent being or the worst person that had ever existed. He'd started as an assassin, he would die as an assassin and there was no escaping it. He decided to live on accepting this fate. He'd befriended Yogurt, became his bodyguard, followed him everywhere, stayed by his side ... He'd grown attached to his prey. Denying it was stupid. And after all, as long as his mission ended up being fulfilled, it shouldn't really matter. But as much as he tried to kill him, there was always an excuse that stopped him from doing so.
Not now, Yogurt is close to his birthday... It would be a shame for him not to celebrate it.
Not now, he had an important trade the day after that ... He should enjoy it, just this once.
Not now, Lilac and him were supposed to spend a day together next week.
Not now ... In the future. Soon, probably. Just ... Not now. That's what he'd always told himself. It has been 5 years, and ... Still, now didn't feel like the right moment. Yet, when yogurt told him that he would like to explore an old city filled with traps and monsters, Lilac thought that might be the moment. Perhaps ... If he wasn't the one to kill him, it might help. So he let it go. They wandered around the city, avoiding traps upon traps, and every time they walked upon on, Lilac wished that things could be over in just the blink of an eye. Was it too hard to ask for it to end so quickly ? He hoped, and hoped ... He tried to turn his head to ignore the dangers ... Until it happened.
Yogurt walked too close to a wall. Neither cookies noticed that a beast had been waiting for him to approach. It jumped on the prince, pinned him against the floor and roared. Lilac closed his eyes for a second. That was it. The end. The ending he'd been waiting for was so close, he just had to accept it. But he made a mistake. He reopened his eyes. And he saw everything. The blood, dripping out of his friend's arm, the beast savoring the flavor of its victim, and most of all ... The fear on his face. Lilac couldn't control himself. He grunted, took two steps forward, and glared at th beast.
"Don't EVER touch him again."
The creature froze in place, huffed, and immediately fled, leaving the two friends behind. Both had survived, and thankfully, nothing bad happened. Yogurt's arm healed rather quickly, simply leaving a scar that Lilac struggled to look at. He felt guilty for it. That was entirely his fault. Yogurt obviously noticed his bodyguard's pain, and decided to make up for it. To the prince, this scar was a symbol of how Lilac was always there for him, willing to protect him with his life. Therefore, he decided to embellish it to make it perfect in his eyes. He was going to cover it with the same tattoo as lilac's.
The Assassin felt even worse hearing it. This scar was the proof of his inhumanity. He was willing to let his friend die. And Yogurt was thanking him for it ?! It hurt. But ... He knew he couldn't go against that decision.
"C'mon Lilac. Do you ... Really hate it that badly ? That scar ..."
"... I feel like you should not feel compelled to make me happy when I'm the one who let you be hurt."
"Hey, I'm doing this on my own. I want this. You're ... Really important to me, you know ? It's been five years ever since we met and ... I kind of want to have something that I can see every day to remind me of you. If a scar is too painful to look at, i think the flowers you enjoy might be able to change up your mind."
Lilac repressed a sob and nodded. He was happy. Yogurt was his entire world. He loved him, so much ...
"Alright. I understand."
"Really, great !!"
"Be careful though, Tattoos can be painful. Especially something as big as that."
"Ah ... Well umh ... I know I'm ready, but ... How painful is it ?"
"Probably more painful than what you can imagine."
"... Will you be by my side if I felt too bad ? I'm a little scared now."
"I'll hold your hand if you want."
Lilac wasn't going to kill Yogurt today. Nor tomorrow. He just wanted to protect him for the rest of his life.
