Marcia sprawled onto Endor's new indigo-blue couch, kicking her much hated sensible brown boots up onto the arm rest and throwing her head back against the other arm with a loud, exasperated sigh.
"Marcie? Is that you?" Endor came bustling out of the kitchen with a steaming cup in hand. "What's wrong? Boots off the couch please. That was quite a sigh."
Marcia kicked her boots off, letting them fall over the end of the couch, out of sight. She looked up at her girlfriend with some envy. Endor's new dark blue wizard robes looked good on her. The rich indigo set off her dark curls and made her chocolate skin glow against the fabric, and the robes were belted in such a way that they accentuated her curves to an almost distracting degree. Endor was a few years older than Marcia and a week ago, had finally become an Ordinary Wizard. On the one hand, Marcia was incredibly happy for her, but on the other, they weren't living together anymore, and the slight gap in their ages felt suddenly pronounced. Although Marcia was almost twenty-four and only a year and a half off the end of her apprenticeship, her green robes, in contrast with Endor's blue, made her feel like a child. Marcia huffed and sighed again, more quietly this time.
"I miss you, you know. You're here now, and well.. oh I don't know. It's just not quite the same anymore.." Marcia's voice trailed off slightly as Endor gently lifted her legs out of the way and sat down, placing Marcia's feet back into her lap. She looked at Marcia with concerned eyes.
"Soon you'll be here too. It's only a year and a bit and then you'll be done. We'll be here, together." Her demeanor suddenly changed, becoming coy. "And might I add, you're going to look really fucking hot in blue." She winked at her girlfriend. "And even better in purple."
Marcia felt her face heat slightly. "Hmph.. yes, well, that will be a few years off yet I should think. I would like to spend some time as a regular wizard first." Her tone turned joking. "I probably won't be ExtraOrdinary until I'm really old, like thirty."
Endor smirked. "Mmm.. Marcia Overstrand, ExtraOrdinary Wizard, and silver fox extraordinaire. What a lucky woman I'll be. I await it with impatience. Here, I'll get you some tea." Marcia blushed again as Endor disappeared back into the kitchen, returning with another mug. They sat in silence, watching lavender tinted clouds float by in the winter sky through the magykal purple window.
"Does Alther know about us yet?"
Marcia cocked a brow and looked at Endor with a slight smirk. "How could he not, we lived together for almost half a decade, and those gossipy wizards, no offence, worked it out ages ago." Her manner changed, becoming suddenly serious. "But, no I've never said anything about it and neither has he."
Endor put her arm around Marcia's shoulders, pulling her close. Marcia twined her fingers with Endor's other hand and put her head against her girlfriend's neck. Their skin contrasted beautifully against each other, deep rich brown and pale freckled gold, dappled with shafts of amethyst sunlight.
"Endor?" Marcia's voice was tight in her throat, coming out slightly constricted.
"Yes love?"
"This isn't going to change anything right? I know you're a qualified wizard now, and I'm still an apprentice, and I'd totally understand if you don't want to do this anymore." Her words were coming too fast now. "I must seem like such a child now, hell I'd be embarrassed to be seen with me.."
"Whoa whoa, Marcia, slow down girl, why would this change anything? We're both the same people we were last week. Literally the only thing that's changed is the colour of my robes, and where I sleep." Endor picked up her cup and snorted gently into her tea. "Also, I'm pretty sure that as ExtraOrdinary Apprentice, you still technically outrank me. If anything, this has only leveled the playing field, no?" She took a sip, a coy smile tickling the corners of her lips. "As for our living situation, you know that you're always welcome to sleep here if you want. I know the ramblings can get bloody cold during the winter."
Marcia looked up at her, green eyes shining slightly with emotion. "You mean that?"
Endor's eyes were also suspiciously shiny. "Of course love, come here whenever you want." Endor took a deep breath and blurted. "You could even move in with me if you'd like."
Marcia gasped, placing a hand over her mouth. "Seriously?"
"Hell yeah chica, I've missed you so much these last few nights." Endor smirked. "I can't sleep without your obnoxious snoring."
Marcia smiled a slightly watery smile, wiped a stray tear from the corner of her eye, sniffed slightly, and gently smacked Endor on the arm. She tried to make her voice strong, and slightly sarcastic, but it came out more wobbly than intended. "You're such an arsehole. Alright. You've got yourself a deal."
Endor grinned widely and wrapped Marcia in a huge bear hug, squeezing so tight her spine clicked. She squeaked as the air was forced from her lungs. Endor was stronger than she looked, and as she spoke, her voice was almost aggressive. "God, I love you so freaking much."
A strangled voice came from inside the brightly coloured tangle of robes. "Endor, you bitch, get off for god's sake, I can't breath." There was slight pause, and a muffled chuckle and then, "I love you too."
