Work Text:
Rey walked towards the house. If she had to be honest, it looked rather average. When she thought of the Skywalker family, it was hard to imagine them as anything other than majestic figures of legend, heroes even in their darkest hour. But then again, Master Luke’s residence on Ach-To hadn’t been anything high or mighty. Just what was necessary.
She opened her bag and pulled the sabers out. Even though she’d fought with both of them, held them in pretty rough moments, at this moment they felt vulnerable. Glass cannons in her hands that could explode at any moment.
Rey buried the weapons in what she assumed was the garden. There wasn’t really a garden of course, the planet was one big desert, but it would have to do. And even they were formidable weapons, both masterfully balanced, Rey couldn’t help but feel relief when she put them away. It was like closing a chapter of her life.
When she walked back to Luke’s X-Wing, she saw a woman walking towards her. Probably one of the nomads, wants to sell me stuff I don’t really need.
But when she got within earshot, the nomad spoke differently: ‘’Few people walk on the ashes of Owen and Beru Lars, girlie. What brings you to their grave?’’
Oh right, this wasn’t just Master Luke’s home. ‘’I’m not here to desecrate their deaths,’’ Rey answered ‘’just putting memories to rest.’’
‘’Ah, it don’t matter anyway. Tell me, memory-burier, what do I call you?’’
That one was simple ‘’Rey’’
‘’Just Rey? Got a last name?’’
That one was less simple ‘’No. Just Rey. People tried to give me names, but they didn’t stick around.’’
The woman tilted her head like a curious animal but there was a wary look in her eyes. ‘’The names, or the people?’’
Rey said nothing, simply continuing her walk.
Once she got in the cockpit she noticed that Finn had sent her a message. Hey Rey, how are you? And where are you? You vanished after the celebration. She quickly typed a message back. Sorry about that Finn. Had to take care of some business. She thought of something and quickly typed another. I’m gonna be gone for a bit longer, so don’t worry about me. I’ll keep you updated.
She put the comms away and started up the X-Wing. Master Luke’s home on Ach-To hadn’t just been for living. Books there told of Force legends and ages past. But the book that most interested her hadn’t been of the Old Republic. It had been a journal, Luke Skywalker’s journal. In it, a name was highlighted with question marks. Luke had been looking for that person. And now, so was she. As she jumped into hyperspace there was only one thing on her mind.
Who and where the hell are you, Snips?
