Summary:

As much as xyx surprises you with his antics, he is never ready to face your unpredictable sense of life.

Notes:

i wouldn’t survive writing if ‘a’ is the only working vowel in this keyboard. also MC is brave for choosing the quietest place to play a loud game.

i’m craving for Chawanmushi now, gotta find myself one tomorrow sobs

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

‘May 16, 12:14 am at UniA Library'

xyx is always punctual when it comes with meetups. He chose to sit beside the tall window, where the full moon shone brightly in his place. He rested his chin on his knuckles as he noticed you carrying totes bags from the entrance, a large tote bag indeed.

"You should've told me earlier to wait outside, it looks heavy." xyx chuckled.

No response coming from you. Your lips were tightly sealed while taking out a laptop from the tote bag.

"Oh, so this is how we'll play huh?" His smirk deepened, letting you do all the job.

"Hmm… The date was just right tonight. Werewolf game?" You shook your head.

"Are you summoning the werewolf, or are you the werewolf?" His questions made you smile yet still no response came from you.

Once settled down, you spun the laptop facing him.

Tonight’s game:

  • Log in through QR Code and we'll begin the bet.
  • One chat at one time, then switch.
  • One correct guess min 1 word in a sentence, scores one.
  • Failed guess, scores to opponent.
  • No phones, special characters and symbols.’

He arched his eyebrow upon seeing the Notepad on the screen. There were two Chrome profiles set up for each one of you. He felt like he figured it out.

xyx: s

Oh so he thought.

He switched the laptop facing you, eyes widened. The arched eyebrows that were seemingly confident suddenly arched in opposite ways.

You were giggling upon typing this. Your keyboard was broken in the middle of the presentation. It was not a problem though, you have your external keyboard with you.

You have now convinced yourself that you will win this time.

LovelyLola: HAHAHAHAHAH hyyyyyyy anna la?

“What?” xyx was confused.

“It’s ‘Wanna play?’ One score goes to mine.” You sheepishly teased him.

“Hey we haven’t even started yet, doll.”

“Then, we’ll start now.” You turned the laptop back to him.

xyx: alght thn, m gng t n th, kttn.

He took a short pause before sending the laptop back to you.

Last time he read his own words, he typed English.

“Let me guess,” you squint your eyes, considering all the possibilities for each of the letters. “I surrender, go take your first score xyx.” You can actually hear audible yes from him, subtly fisting below the table.

At one point, a desk lamp near their table flickered, also flickered in your mind. “kttn is kitten, isn’t it? Give me back that one score.” Your smile widened over the victory.

“Oi. What’s earned can’t be returned” xyx scowled.

“You don’t write the rules. I am.”

“Uh-uh. We’ll see.”

As expected, xyx was now getting competitive.

LovelyLola: lvlylla.

“Pass.” xyx took the laptop, he has something on his mind.

“Hey, I was giving you the simplest thing.”

xyx:

“xyx, you evil.” You frowned.

“What do you mean? It’s ‘you’, my dear. Simpleton.”

”Ugh.”

”A score for me then.”

You just remembered that those letters can’t be used too.

“Gah, I lost the point!” You took back the laptop and the game continued.

The guesses were getting more nonsense. Soft laughters and giggles were echoing in the empty hall, it feels like the world is only you and him.

If only they knew there was a librarian side-eyeing them from far for multiple reasons.

The game continued.

LovelyLola: fdgt snn

“Fidget spinner” He responded quickly, pretty much to your surprise.

“Not bad.”

“Cat just dropped it from the book shelf. Seems like they enjoyed spinning it.” xyx scribbled his score on reused paper. The scores were pretty tied now.

xyx: anglfsh

“Angel fish?” You guessed. xyx shook his head.

“Nope, anglerfish.”

“Does that fish even exist?”

“GIYF.”

“Don’t talk keyboard to me.”

“Google is your friend.”

You quickly picked up your phone to look at it and took multiple looks on him.

You were familiar with how angel fish like, not anglerfish.

Sometimes, xyx can't be trusted too.

Dating tonight, this marked your biggest regret—searching anglerfish in the middle of the night.

You almost jumped on the chair from the first picture you saw in the searches. xyx was trying his hardest not to laugh, but the vibrating shoulders said a lot.

“How the hell anglerfish looked demonic?” You whispered loudly.

“Because it’s not an angel fish!” xyx can no longer help himself. He covered his mouth yet the laugh was still audible.

“Oh come on!” Your voice echoed in the hall for nth time. And now, someone appeared in front of you.

“If there’s another noise coming from you, I will kick you out.” A young man standing in front of you with the moonlight illuminating his amber eyes staring deeply at both of you. From his demeanour, you wouldn’t ever expect someone like him to be a librarian. Yet his actions screamed ‘he’s a librarian by heart’ to you. The name tag hanging from his neck justified your thoughts.

“Okay Lukas, we get it. Sorry for that.” xyx nodded obediently. Unsatisfied, Lukas walked away, still eyeing both of you from far.

”If only he doesn’t frown so much,” you sighed. xyx was sure he didn’t mishear your low mumble.

The game continued again. Your turn now.

"Okay, take five," you said, yet you were still typing on the laptop.

LovelyLola: xyx, that lbaan s ht.

Surprisingly, xyx didn’t take time to guess and took the laptop right away.

xyx: _ _all_?

LovelyLola: Y_ah. H_s fac_ l_ _ks f_ _ _ c _. and and

xyx: and?

LovelyLola: _ th_nk h_'s my ty_ _.

He took another pause and looked at you, except that only his eyes were moved.

xyx: ys n m, kttn

LovelyLola: Hmm??

He continued typing and stopped. Then, he closed the laptop right away.

"No! We haven't even finished yet!" You said. He chuckled over your reaction, much to your dismay.

"It's already late now. You still have work tomorrow." He replied, asking for the tote bag to put it in.

"Then who leads the score today?"

"I'm gonna win. I bet you won't get that part. So, a week of Cat's food supply, deal?"

"Deal. Oh wait, that's not bad." You were surprised with the punishment. It was more of a reward to spend extra time with Cat.

"You're nice today?"

"Nope, I'm giving you mercy. I can book a spin class if you want that."

"I took my words back."

"Haha, let's go home. I'll send your laptop to my friend for repair your broken keyboard, then I'll take this tote bag with me."

"Feel free." You nodded gleefully.

While walking out from the library, your eyes were focusing to xyx's bike.

As for xyx, he eyed the whole library, looking for the librarian who just approached them earlier. Lukas in one of the shelves, arranging the books, realised the sharp eyes from far.

Once Lukas made eye contact with him, xyx pulled his arm around your shoulder and waved him goodbye.

Confused, Lukas awkwardly waved back at him. He frowned harder, shaking his head over xyx's demeanour.

"Ugh, as if I can't see the way you looked at them, dude." Lukas mumbled alone and continued reading the blurbs of the books.
