Chapter 1: 2021 : GETTING READY

Chapter Text

"You're getting better every day, Y/N," Cordelia grumbled as she watched you in the garden, resurrecting a dead butterfly. You've been at the Coven for at least a year and are clearly doing an excellent job. Miss Robichaux's Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies has a more beautiful atmosphere than ever. As the neighbors say, the white walls and white house maintain their purity and color.

"Thank you, Ms. Cordelia. I've been putting in a lot of practice time in preparation for the tournament. I know you're counting on me, so I'm doing everything I can to avoid disappointing you. " You replied as the blue-alive butterfly wiggled its wings and flew away, your abilities improving with each training, and your best friend, Mallory, was impressed by your magic. For one year, you have mastered the resurrection of any matter using the warmth of your hands, as well as telekinesis and divination, which is why Cordelia presented you when the tournament began looking for the representative of each magic school.

"Oh honey, you never disappoint us, and besides, whatever happens in the tournament, we know that you're doing your best. And being the best is not just always winning; it's doing things with all your heart, so don't pressure yourself alright? " She sincerely smiled at you, meeting her blue-brilliant eyes.

"I am doing this with all my heart, Miss Ma'am. I will never fail you." You replied proudly until Mallory showed up.

"Hey, lunch is ready." She said then both of you and Cordelia's eyes shifted to hers and followed her inside.

You and Mallory returned to your room after lunch. Of course, the two of you are roommates. Your bond with her is so strong that she feels like a sister to you, even though you're all sisters at the Coven. Back in your high school days, Mallory was the sweetest girl you'd ever met. You have similar ideas, preferences, and even musical tastes. When you look at her, time seems to stand still as your heartbeat quickens and you recall the first time you saw her in the hallways. She was stunning, and she had the most beautiful smile you'd ever seen. You both dropped out of college in order to live together outside of San Francisco to New Orleans. You both ended up in the Academy after confessing to each other the supernatural things that have been happening to you. You have no idea how, but everything you knew about yourself came from Mallory and Cordelia's story. You and Mal were in a car accident on the way to New Orleans and ended up in the Academy. You know, it sounds shady, and you sometimes doubt yourself, but you have nowhere else to turn.

"You okay, Y/N?" Mallory asked, out of her confusion.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine," you said, smiling slightly as you sat at the foot of your bed, facing the window and it began to rain.

Well, you seem a little off these past few days... is there anything you aren't telling me? She asked.

It's just, I-I'm nervous for tomorrow, you know? It's a big time contest and it's nothing like a magic show for me, Mal. I'm scared. " You let out a long sigh as she sat down next to you and took your right hand in hers then her warm hand rested on your shoulder.

"Just like Cordelia said, you don't need to pressure yourself that much. Just be you. You're the secret spell Y/N. "

"I know... but what if I lose? It will be embarrassing." You gave a sigh and added, "Cordelia should have chosen you." You're better than me. "

"She has chosen you as our representative." That means you are better than me. You are greater than all of us. Don't underestimate your power... I know you can do it! " She hugged you tight and gave you a little forehead kiss. "And not to mention how Madison is so jealous of you." She jokingly added and giggled.

"Stop... she might hear you, you know." She's not taking this fairly, she's still mad at me. "

"Don't mind her, she's always like that." Mallory rolled her eyes and laughed.

"You know what? We should be packing our things for tomorrow, after all. It's not just a tournament. I heard that Hawthorne School will be there, and Miss Cordelia said she will be introducing me to their representative. "

"What..." like, a fixed marriage thing, huh?" She teased.

"Ew... boys? No. She said that he might be Hawthorne's student running for supreme. It's called the Alpha. Cordelia wants me to get to know him. Maybe become friends with him." Mallory nodded as she listened. She looked jealous and you could see it in her eyes, so you laughed.

"Why are you laughing?"

"You're jealous, aren't you?"

"No I'm not... stop looking at me like that!" She drifted her eyes away from you and started packing her own things.

"Awww... don't worry Mal. I'm not going to ditch my bestie for a dick. " "You said teasingly."

"Shut up, let's just pack. I know that I trust you. Mallory smiled as she took a glimpse of you. "And I am not jealous, like what are you? My girlfriend or something...

"No, but I'm your best friend." You smirked and started packing your things as well.

After you've finished packing your belongings. You and Mallory both go straight to bed. You forced yourself to sleep and tried not to think about the big day tomorrow. You also avoided touching your phone throughout tomorrow's Magic School Tournament 2021 in order to get a good night's sleep. What will happen the next day? Is it going to be a big witches and wizards game? Or perhaps something more provoking?

"Good night Mallory."

"Good night Y/N, sleep tight."
