I Saw You Dancing in A Crowded Room

Summary:

After Freddy and Bonnie break up, they have to see each other at an event being held in the pizzaplex.

Notes:

Not sure how much I’m gonna write for this but I thought I would post it anyway!

Chapter Text

The main atrium was alight with more energy than ever. 80s pop music blared through the speakers, and a large disco ball hung from the ceiling above the dancefloor, reflecting neon pinks and purples that swished around the room alongside the guests. The dance floor had been created by moving the tables to the outskirts of the area, to be used for food and drinks.

This would normally be a fun scene, in Bonnie’s opinion. He would love to be spending his evening dancing and getting wasted with his friends; Chica, Foxy, and-

Well, that was the problem.

The rabbit scanned the room from the sidelines, trying his hardest to appear nonchalant about it. There was no reason he shouldn’t be; he was only looking around, after all. It wasn’t like he was trying to scope out anyone in particular.

He nibbled at his lower lip, his foot tapping out a beat on the floor much faster than the beat of the song that was playing. Not that he cared, but he couldn’t locate a certain animatronic bear. One that he had broken up with a week ago. Yes, only a week ago, but to him it felt like it had been ages. Not in a good way, either. The fury and regret had been eating away at him ever since he broke his boyfriend’s heart.

His ex boyfriend, that is.

Bonnie felt a gentle nudge against his side, rousing him from his thoughts. Chica stood by his side, joining him in looking into the glamorous crowd.

“How’s it going, bunbun?” She smiled kindly.

“Fine,” he replied, shoving away the implications of her question. Still, he didn’t blame her for asking. It was considerate of her, and he hadn’t spoken to her much that week while hiding and sulking in his room. Knowing Chica, she was worried for him.

Bonnie really did appreciate her. She had made sure to drop by every day with the usual post-breakup necessities, never forcing him to talk if he didn’t feel like it. She also made sure to have the staff bots tidy his room regularly so that he didn’t need to worry about it.

Bonnie returned his friend’s smile. He noted her outfit; a bubblegum pink midi dress with a slit up the leg, and gold pump heels that brought her up a couple inches than usual. Her hair was down tonight, in loose waves. “You look amazing.”

Chica giggled. “Thanks, Roxy helped me get ready. I can never figure out my eyeshadow on my own. She helped me decide on the dress too. Dunno what I’d do without her, honestly.”

A slight churn in Bonnie’s chest caused his smile to falter a moment. Chica must have noticed this, as she put her hand on the bunny’s shoulder tenderly. “Oh, I’m sorry hun. I should really watch what I say right now.”

“It’s not a problem. I’m really glad you two are happy together. No need to censor your gushing around me.” he said with a wink.

The chicken stared at him, unconvinced. She leaned in closer to him as if to speak more privately, although no one else was near enough to hear them anyway. God, why was that music so loud? He could barely think.

“I thought I’d let you know, he isn’t here yet.”

Bonnie felt relief wash over him briefly before it was interrupted by a shoot of disappointment. Why did he want to see Freddy? He thought he wanted as much space between him and the bear as possible, and yet he still found himself searching the sea of glittering formalwear for that familiar orange fur.

When Bonnie didn’t respond, Chica squeezed his arm gently. “I know you feel bad, but you did what was best. For both of you. Please don’t let this ruin your night.”

He sighed and rubbed his face self consciously. It’s not like he wasn’t used to being vulnerable around Chica, just that this whole situation had been weighing on him for so long; even before the breakup. He wanted to let go so bad, but the guilt still gathered in his chest and nagged at him.

At the same time, he was hurt too. Why should he feel bad, anyway? It’s not like Freddy was innocent here.

Chica was right, he deserved a night to forget about this bullshit.

He rubbed his forehead and glanced down to where Chica had snuggled into his side. He nudged her gently, causing her to look up at him, tilting her head.

Bonnie offered his hand, grinning. “Wanna dance?”

Chica’s worried brow softened as she took his hand. “Duh.”

With that, she tugged him out onto the dance floor. She took Bonnie’s other hand and began to do a sort of shimmy-like movement between the two of them, laughing at how odd it must have looked.

Bonnie released one of Chica’s hands to hold her waist. She put her hand on his chest, catching on. They twirled around as if dancing a waltz, giggling more.

Eventually the two animatronics were in tears over their dance moves, laughing so hard that Bonnie’s stomach hurt.

Then the song changed.

Chica gasped and leaped up from her fit of laughter, instantly spinning and jumping around with glee. “I LOVE THIS SONG!!”

She grabbed Bonnie by the shoulders and he grabbed hers while still choking on giggles. The two hopped around together, laughing and smiling harder than Bonnie had in what felt like ages. They both shook each other excitedly.

“‘CAUSE WE ARE LIVING IN A MATERIAL WORLD, AND I AM A MATERIAL GIRL” They sang together. Other party guests sang along too, a sea of glittering electric energy. Bonnie could feel the stress of the past week ebbing away with each second.

The two of them spun around like children, Bonnie forgetting more each second why he had been so upset before.

——————————

Freddy was a mess. The anxious pool in his stomach hadn’t left him all week, especially knowing this party was just around the corner. He didn’t even want to imagine how awful it was going to be seeing Bonnie after last week, but it was all that was on his mind lately. Bonnie, Bonnie, Bonnie.

Well, actually, Bonnie wasn’t the only thing on his mind.

As he adjusted and tugged at his bowtie for probably the hundredth time, the sliding sound of his door made him start.

“Hey, are ya ready? Yer takin’ your sweet time in here.”

Monty was standing in the doorway. He cleared his throat. “Not that I wanna go really. Jus’ that you insisted on it.”

Freddy met his gaze through the mirror. “Monty, you should knock before you enter someone’s room,” he sighed.

The gator stepped into the room smirking, arms crossed. “Oh, c’mon Fazbear. I’ve seen your ass before,” He stopped and thought for a moment. “actually, everyone has. Ya don’t wear pants.”

Freddy pinched the bridge (???) of his nose, flushing a bit. “It is polite to knock, still!”

“..Hey-” Monty put a hand on Freddy’s shoulder awkwardly. He could finally feel how shaken up Freddy was. He was trembling. Monty tilted his head up to look at him, concern creeping into his expression. “What's goin’ on?” he asked, a bit more gently than his previously teasing tone.

Freddy leaned into the other’s touch. He felt tears clouding his eyes. Monty noticed this and turned the bear to face him. Although he wasn’t really the best with emotions, this was worrying.

What their relationship was, he had no clue. However, friends with benefits or more, he cared for Freddy a lot more than he let on sometimes.

The bear blinked, allowing the pooled up tears to roll down his cheeks. “I am sorry for this. I am having a hard week,” He sniffled, then in a low voice, almost to himself, “I.. hurt him.”

Monty’s chest tightened. He ached to reach out to Freddy, to hold him, but how would that go when Monty was the cause of this? Somehow, The Freddy Fazbear found him bearable (hehe) enough to cheat on his hot long-term boyfriend with him.

..Nah. That couldn’t be it. It was Monty’s fault for seducing him. For being in the way. He was always fucking shit up.

His thoughts were interrupted when Freddy sniffled again, glancing up at the gator in front of him. Big, pathetic, blue eyes blinked up at the gator. “Could… could I please have a hug..?” The bear muttered carefully.

Monty hesitated, a bit taken aback. He was honestly still astonished that Freddy wanted anything to do with him after what happened last week, but he wasn’t complaining.

Timidly, he held out his arms, allowing Freddy to wrap his own around Monty’s waist. He melted into him, holding him tightly and nuzzling his face into the gator’s neck.

Monty, though not the best nor most comfortable with soothing others, held onto Freddy as if he were made of tissue paper. He eventually began to trace small circles onto the other’s back with his claw, relaxing slightly despite his thundering heartbeat that he was certain Freddy could hear.

After a long moment, when Freddy’s shaking body stilled and his breathing no longer came in sharp spurts, Monty tucked his snout into the bear’s fur nervously. He mumbled into his shoulder, “I’m.. sorry.”

Freddy tensed, then pulled away, not letting go of Monty’s forearms. “Monty..it is not your fault, it is my own.” He placed a hand on one side of the alligator’s cheek, stroking it lovingly, and Monty allowed himself to lean into it a bit.

“I do not want you to blame yourself for my mistakes.”

“..I mean, isn’t it partially my fault?”

“Not at all. Please believe me, I did not feel pressured into anything we did together.”

Freddy tentatively held one of Monty’s hands up to his lips, pressing a kiss to his knuckles and earning a soft blush from Monty. “You are no mistake of mine.”

How the bear could go from crying to giving Monty butterflies in a span of five minutes, he would love to know.

The gator coughed and straightened up slightly, looking the bear up and down. He crossed his arms. “Have I mentioned how dumb you look in that suit?”

Freddy quirked an eyebrow and chuckled lightly. “You might have, were you not too busy comforting me a moment ago. Thank you, by the way”

He looked back to the mirror, adjusting his bowtie one final time and giving himself a once over. He met Monty’s eyes in the mirror’s reflection. “I should also mention that you look very handsome-”

Monty groaned, then grabbed Freddy’s arm. “Enough. Let’s go, fazfuck.”
