First Date

Summary:

Oneshot. Jimmy and Heloise are finally a couple! But their first date doesn't go exactly as planned. Sequel/epilogue to Shadows of the past.

Notes:

Cross posted from Fanfiction.net

Greetings fellow JTS fans! Welcome to the one-shot sequel for my fic "Shadows of The Past!"

Originally written in 2013, this is the 2021 updated version to accompany the rewrite of its companion fanfic. Compared to that, this one only has some minor changes to align it with the rewrite. I wasn't even going to rewrite this at all at first until I decided it needed it.

Work Text:

Two days ago, an extinct monster called a Misery Leech rampaged through Miseryville and trapped its citizens in their own misery. The general populace sort of shrugged it off, it's Miseryville, that sort of thing happens. The exploded carcass of the Leech had finally been cleaned up and the whole thing was forgotten already.

Except for the two humans in town, who were nearly torn apart by the incident but have now become closer than ever before, Jimmy Two Shoes and Heloise St. Mortem. Having accepted their love for one another, the two became a couple, and tonight they would finally go on a first date.

The sun was just beginning to set in the already orange sky when Jimmy approached Heloise's front door. Sporting a black jacket over his regular outfit, Jimmy knocked on the door and held something behind his back.

"Coming!" he heard Heloise shout from inside the house. Jimmy hummed to himself as he waited for the door to open, his hum sounding suspiciously like a certain theme song of his. The door opened soon after, revealing Heloise in a sleeveless tube top version of her regular dress with a light blue jacket over it. She wore a black choker necklace and a hair clip the same color as her jacket, pushing up a section of her bangs to the left.

"Hi Jimmy." Heloise greeted him, playing up her cuteness.

"Hey Heloise, you look great." After being oblivious for so long, it was a welcome change of pace for the blonde to recognize her advances towards him. Heloise gave him a genuine smile and the two silently locked eyes momentarily. Seconds passed and Jimmy remembered what he was holding behind his back "Oh! I uh…" Jimmy blushed red and held out a small bouquet for his girlfriend. Instead of regular flowers the stems were topped with skulls "I got these for you. I've heard boyfriends are supposed to do stuff like this."

Heloise accepted the gift "Aww Jimmy, that's so sweet of you." more than the bouquet, she liked that he was trying to be a good boyfriend for her "Wait just a second." With a burst of speed, Heloise ran inside and placed the skull bouquet in what used to be her Jimmy shrine, now packed in boxes instead of on display, (that was one thing she would never tell him about) before running back to Jimmy and putting her arm around his arm.

"So what's first?" Heloise asked "You'll see! Come on!" Jimmy pulled her along towards the first part of the date.

OXOXOXOX

"The movie theater?" Heloise looked at where the couple were standing in front of "Yup. Chainsaw Ninja's in Space 2 is out!" Jimmy grinned excitedly. Heloise rolled her eyes at his enthusiasm, yet found it adorable "Let's hope it's better than the first film."

The two waited in the ticket line, talking about whatever came to mind to pass the time "-and that is how you get the zombies to listen to you! Just don't let them hear pop music, it makes them explode." Heloise finished explaining, Jimmy scratched his head in confusion "Wait, so is the wooden spoon necessary or can it be optional?" "Oh, it's necessary." Heloise nodded, recalling an unpleasant experience.

"E'llo, E'llo, E'llo?" a British voice came from behind them. Heloise smacked her hand against her head "Not him." She grumbled in annoyance. The young con artist known as 'Peep' stepped over to Heloise's right "Fancy meeting you here 'eloise."

Jimmy felt that seed of jealousy once again. Normally he liked the guy but when it came to Heloise… "Hi Peep! Me and Heloise are-" "Oh, that's nice." the pickpocket dismissed the blonde, focusing on the girl that looked like she was seconds away from punching him in the face "Since we're both 'ere, How's bout you an' me catch a film together?"

While Heloise had some choice words lined up, they went unsaid as she felt Jimmy's arm pull her towards him "Sorry Peep. But MY GIRLFRIEND HELOISE-" Jimmy emphasized "-is here to see a movie with me." the boy glared at the yellow demon. Peep's jaw hit the floor and Heloise couldn't hide her love-struck grin.

"You an' her?!" Peep didn't want to believe it, but the normally cheery boy's stern gaze made him realize he wasn't joking. Peep mumbled under his breath as he walked away in defeat, wrongly thinking he would win Heloise over the next time.

With her unwanted admirer gone, Heloise looked up at her boyfriend, impressed by his assertiveness "Nice one Jimmy." his gaze traveled down to meet hers "Heh, yeah." he sheepishly replied. After all that he went through to be with her, there was no way Jimmy was going to sit by and watch someone else try to flirt with his girl.

Once they got their tickets and grabbed some snacks, the couple took their seats in the theater and enjoyed the movie "Ninja Larry, the aliens are coming back to us!" a guy in the movie exclaimed "Not to worry Ninja Jorge, for we have chainsaws!" the other guy said. Reaching into their shared popcorn bucket, Jimmy and Heloise's hands brushed against one another. They both blushed and kept their hands together on the armrest.

A very tall demon entered the theater and sat himself in the row directly in front of the couple, Blocking Heloise's view "Hey! Move it! I can't see!" she shouted at the guy. The tall demon turned to look at her "Not my problem. What's a shrimp like you gonna do about it?" he mocked. Heloise smirked, "This." She pulled out a ray gun and blasted the tall guy with it, reducing him to a pile of ash with blinking eyeballs "Much better."

Jimmy just sat there and ate his popcorn.

OXOXOXOX

After the movie was over, Jimmy and Heloise walked over to the ice cream shop "That was the worst ending. 'The real chainsaws were the friends they made along the way'?" The brunette rolled her eyes as they waited for their order. "Yeah, it needed more foreshadowing." Jimmy nodded in agreement. The man behind the counter finished their cones and handed them to the couple.

The two sat down at a table by the window. Jimmy got the sludge flavored ice cream and Heloise got the caramelized snail flavor "Ooh, I never saw that flavor before." Jimmy eyed his girlfriend's cone "It's the flavor of the month. Want a taste?" Heloise offered. Jimmy took a bit on his finger and tasted it "Mmm, Snail-ey."

This was perfect, just her and Jimmy having a nice time together… but perfection never lasts.

"HERE'S BEEZY!"

Jimmy and Heloise jumped in surprise as a red blur crashed through the ceiling and landed on their table "Beezy?!" the couple exclaimed, confused by his sudden entrance. The red demon rolled himself off of the table and stood up "Beezy is in the house! I heard someone mention a flavor of the month." He leaned his arm on the table.

Steaming with anger, Heloise poked Beezy's side "Excuse me Beezy?" her voice faking sweetness "I don't think you noticed but… ME AND JIMMY ARE ON A DATE!" she erupted in anger, pulling out a wooden mallet "No, no not the hammer!" Beezy screamed as Heloise began chasing him around and outside of the shop, intent on smacking him with her weapon.

"I wonder if I should stop them?" Jimmy rubbed his chin in thought.

His two best friends seemed to finish their chase, with Heloise standing on Beezy's head while he laid on the floor tied up in rope "Aw, not again." Beezy mumbled, "What do you see in her?" he looked to the other human.

Jimmy shook his head "Heloise…" he looked at her with crossed arms. Heloise reluctantly relented, "Fine." she jumped down and undid the ropes "Can I have some lotion? Those things chafe!" Beezy complained. "Why are you here?" Heloise asked, peeved that her perfect date had been interrupted "I wanted to see how my best bro was doing on his date, and then ice cream happened and I couldn't hold back." he cried, ashamed of his weakness.

"Listen, Beez, I totally get it with the ice cream. But maybe you can just order some to go?" the blonde kindly suggested. Beezy didn't get it at first, then the gears in his head slowly turned "Oh! Right! You guys want to be alone on your date!" he slapped his forehead "I never even thought of that!"

"You never think much of anything." Heloise said under her breath.

"Well-" Beezy strutted to the counter "I'll just take a quintuple scoop of caramelized snail to go, and let you little lovebirds have a perfect evening." He wiped away a tear as he walked away "They grow up so fast!"

With Beezy taking his enormous ice cream with him, Heloise still wasn't completely pleased "We WERE having a perfect evening before you came along!" "Hey-" Jimmy pressed his hand on her shoulder "I've still got one more place I want to show you."

OXOXOXOX

Jimmy kept Heloise's eyes covered with his hands as he led her to their destination "Okay and… stop! We're here!" he released his hands from her face. With her vision regained, Heloise looked around and tried to recognize where they were. It was a small cave under a hill in the park. A narrow hole in the ceiling acted as a skylight and shined over a lava lake in the center. The light from above caused the lava bubbles to shine like motes of moonlight.

"I found this place a while ago when Cerbee was hiding from his annual trip to the vet. Do you like it?" Jimmy asked, watching the amazement on Heloise's face. She never knew there was a place in Miseryville like this "It's beautiful." She commented, "Yeah." Jimmy wasn't looking at the cave, his gaze was completely focused on the girl next to him.

The two sat down beside the lake, looking out over the lava bubbles, "Sorry that this date wasn't completely perfect Heloise." Jimmy apologized. Heloise scooted closer to him "Hey, nothing around here ever goes as planned. Just being with you is enough for me." her fingers reached out and intertwined with his. Jimmy sighed "This is all kind of new to me, I've never been a boyfriend before." He'd had a couple of crushes before, and there had been the Schmeloise incident. But how he felt about Heloise was deeper than a simple infatuation. It was real love.

"One day I'll get the hang of all this romantic stuff." he chuckled. Heloise leaned up and placed a quick peck on his cheek "You're doing fine Jimmy. You're a massive dork but you're also super sweet." She wrapped her arms around his and leaned onto his shoulder, sighing happily "We're together now, and it's all I've ever wanted." Nuzzling his head on top of hers, Jimmy agreed "Me too Heloise, I just wish I'd known so sooner."

They sat in a comfortable silence for the longest time, simply enjoying each other's company under the glow of moonlit lava.

It was perfect

OXOXOXOX

Later that night, Jimmy walked Heloise back to her house "I had fun tonight." Heloise told him "I did too! And wait till you see what I have planned for our next date! I'm not saying much, but it might involve monster trucks and Runny and The Nosebleeds!" Jimmy excitedly hinted.

Heloise chuckled, trying to figure out whatever he was planning, "Wow, sounds super romantic."

"Hey, I can be romantic!" Jimmy objected "Really? Then show me." His girlfriend challenged him. Jimmy grabbed Heloise by the arms, dipping her down as he gently held her. He planted a soft kiss on her lips that she happily reciprocated, wrapping her arms around his neck as she kissed back.

As the two parted, Jimmy's face grew into the dorky smile that made Heloise's heart flutter "How was that?" he asked, "Not bad." she admitted coyly. Jimmy did a fist pump and mouthed 'YES!'

The two let go and Jimmy watched as she entered her front door "Goodnight Jimmy." "Night Heloise." the door closed, leaving Jimmy to walk back to his house while Heloise sat up on her couch, both saying the same thing: "Best. Date. Ever."
