Work Text:
It must be late when Hani’s eyes flutter open since she can see that the room has been illuminated by the sun shining through the window. She’s curled up against Ishu, her face buried in the crook of her girlfriend's neck with her arms wrapped around her torso. Ishu is hugging her tightly, pressing their bodies together.
Hani tries to fall asleep again, closing her eyes and breathing in the scent of Ishu, but now that she’s already awake there’s no way she’ll fall asleep again.
Keeping her arms wrapped around Ishu, Hani carefully moves away from the crook of Ishu’s neck and instead positions herself to be facing her directly. A smile creeps upon her face as she watches her girlfriend’s chest rise and fall. She is beautiful.
Suddenly then, Ishu opens one of her eyes slightly. “Are you watching me sleep?”
“Maybe,” Hani admits.
“Fucking creep,” Ishu jokes and opens her other eye.
“I couldn’t resist. It’s not my fault that you’re absolutely adorable when you sleep,” Hani reasons.
“You’re right,” Ishu agrees. “Now that I think about it, I think I’ve watched you sleep before too, so we’re even. We’re both creeps.”
“Wonderful,” Hani inches closer.
They lay there together for who knows how long, eyes moving up and down, taking each other in. This is usually what they do when they sleep at Ishu’s (not at her house - her parents won’t let them sleep in the same room), and this is why the morning is one of Hani’s favourite parts of the day. She gets to admire her girlfriend in silence, and her girlfriend gets to admire her.
“You’re really cute,” Ishu blurts.
Hani can feel her cheeks warming. She should be used to this by now - they’ve been dating for almost a year and Ishu praises her every day - but her breath never fails to hitch whenever she catches Ishu watching her or when Ishu brushes her hand against hers. Ishu notices her cheeks reddening and smirks. “You’re blushing.”
“Shut up,” Hani groans, and then they go back to silence. And then Hani can’t take it anymore. “Can I kiss you?”
Ishu nods and Hani leans into her, placing a soft kiss on her lips. She feels Ishu move her hand from her back to her face, cupping it gently. Hani doesn’t know if life can get better than this.
She pulls away after a few seconds and sees that Ishu’s cheeks are tinted red. She lets out a laugh. “Who’s blushing now?”
“Shut up,” Ishu mumbles, burying her face into Hani’s neck. “I don’t want to wake up yet. Let’s sleep for longer.”
“We’re not going to fall back asleep,” Hani says.
“Then let’s just lay here and do nothing.”
This seems like a good idea to Hani. She tightens her grip around Ishu, feeling her girlfriend’s arms make their way up to her back. And they lay there, for as long as they can before Ishu’s mother is calling them down. “Ishu! Hani!”
“We’re coming,” Ishu lifts her head and groans loudly before turning back to Hani. “What time even is it?”
Hani shrugs. “I don’t know. Maybe 11?”
“Shit, then we should get up,” Ishu says. “Ammu and Abbu go crazy if I’m not awake before 11:30.”
“But I don’t want to let go of you,” Hani retaliates.
“Then let’s walk to the bathroom together,” Ishu smiles.
Hani doesn’t quite know what she means until Ishu kicks the blanket off of them and they’re walking across the hall to the bathroom, hands still wrapped around each other. It’s an awkward position, and it isn’t exactly comfortable, but Hani doesn’t care, because she’s doing it with Ishu.
Both of them brush their teeth and Hani begins to make her way downstairs while Ishu goes to fix her messy bed. Her parents greet her with a smile, Ishu’s mother handing her a plate with an aloo paratha on it. She sits down and begins to eat and Ishu joins her a few seconds later.
Ishu’s parents still don’t know about their relationship. Hani’s talked about it with her before and Ishu decided that she would come out to them once she has a place to live and a stable source of income, because judging by how they reacted when they found out Nik was getting engaged, Ishu thinks their reaction to her coming out will be even worse. Hani agrees with her on this one.
After they’re done with breakfast, Hani and Ishu head back upstairs and change their clothes. Hani folds the pyjamas she’d been wearing (they’re Ishu’s - she hadn’t planned on staying the night) and puts them in the drawer they belong in. She walks downstairs and says goodbye to Ishu’s parents, slips her shoes on at the door, and is ready to head back to her house.
“Wait,” Ishu stops her before she opens the front door. “Let me walk you to the Luas.”
Hani doesn’t object. “Okay,” she smiles. Once Ishu is ready and they’re both a few metres away from her house, they immediately lock hands.
On the way there, they talk about their plans for tomorrow and the day after that and so on. Ishu suggests that they go see the new movie in theatres - a horrible-looking romantic chick-flick that she wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to make fun of. Ishu claims to hate the romance genre, but Hani finds that Ishu is the most romantic person on earth.
Between showering her with compliments every day, going out of her way to make sure she’s always comfortable, getting her gifts without reason, and kissing her whenever she can, Hani thinks that Ishu is a hopeless romantic.
They reach the Luas station a bit later and once the Luas arrives, Hani doesn’t want to go. “What if I stayed a little longer?”
“You’ve been spending almost every day at my house this week, your parents probably think you’ve forgotten about them,” Ishu jokes. “Also, I need to study.”
“Do you ever not study?” Hani asks.
“I thought we went over this,” Ishu shakes her head. She presses her lips to Hani’s cheek and lets go of her hand so she can get on the Luas - but then she decides that isn’t enough and she pulls her back, giving her a chaste kiss on the lips. “Text me later.”
“I will,” Hani smiles, boarding the Luas. She takes a seat by the window and Ishu is still watching her. As the Luas begins to move, she waves, and Ishu keeps waving until Hani can’t see her anymore.
Hani wonders what she did to end up with the most amazing girl on the planet.
