Work Text:

It had been nearly a year since the fight with Adriel. The group had decided to split up afterward and lay low for a while. They’d all gone off on their own except for Camila and Ava who went away together.

Beatrice visited with Lilith and Mary once and a while, but she hadn’t gotten brave enough to reach out to Ava or Camila yet. The reasoning behind this was that she’d been watching them from afar to make sure they were safe and they just seemed to be so happy.

Her current position was atop a building, probably four or five stories up. She had a direct line of sight into a building across the street. The building was a small diner that was pretty run down, but the locals in town frequented it from what Beatrice had gathered.

Inside the diner were Ava and Camila, sitting at a booth beside the window. They talked with each other, giggling, and sharing a rather large bowl of an ice cream sundae. They looked so happy it almost hurt.

Beatrice knew they couldn’t see her from the place she sat and even if they could she wore dark clothing and a hood that helped her blend into the darkness of the night. She frequently watched the girls, making it a habit to do it at least once a week to ensure they were safe even if it was no longer her actual duty.

Her thoughts were cut short when she tuned into the sound of footsteps behind her, it was strange because this building was empty by night, the employees that it housed had gone home to their families by now. Turning her head, she was met with the sight of none other than Lilith.

“What are you doing here, Lilith?” Beatrice asked, a frown making its way to her face. It’s not that she wasn’t happy to see her, but she wasn’t exactly glad to be caught watching them either.

“I’ve come to join you. Misery loves company, or whatever it is they say.” Lilith replied with a nonchalant tone of voice. Beatrice watched her move across the rooftop to come to the edge and sit with her. Both of their eyes trailed off to the window again, watching their distant friends.

“Do you miss them?” Beatrice found herself asking without meaning to, it had just slipped out. She didn’t have to look to know Lilith was nodding, “Yeah,” she whispered out, “Even Ava.” Beatrice cracked a smile at that, it was nice to remember their feuding even if it wasn’t nice to live it at the time.

“Do you come up here often?” Lilith asked, looking over at Beatrice. The girl met her eyes and nodded, “Yeah, at least once a week. Sometimes more.” Lilith furrowed her brows, “Strange.”

Beatrice was slightly taken aback by the comment, “I just want to make sure they’re okay!” Lilith put her hands up in surrender, “It’s not that. It’s just that I come and watch them sometimes too, probably once a week like you. I just thought it was strange we’ve never run into each other.”

Beatrice nods as she turns her head back towards the window, “Well, at least they’ve always had somebody watching out for them.” Lilith agrees, looking back to the girls as well, “Mary goes and checks on them too. Brings them things every now and then.”

“In person?” Beatrice questions which make Lilith scoff, “Beatrice we don’t have to stay away from them anymore. We’re in little to no danger by now and even if we were we’ve always been better together in a fight.” Beatrice huffs, feeling the need to defend herself, “Well… You haven’t seen them either have you?”

Lilith quiets down at that question. They go back to watching the girls in silence, it feels like centuries pass before Ava and Camila stand from their table to leave. From below them, Beatrice watches as two men walk down the dark street. They have on dark clothes, hoods up, and in the darkness, Beatrice could see that one of them had their hand in their jacket pocket.

It wasn’t strange for men to walk the streets at night around the town, but what made her start to get nervous is when they crossed the street and watched as Ava and Camila made their way out of the diner and start their journey toward home.

Beatrice looked over to Lilith who was watching the men as well, with one look they both stood quickly and made their way down the side of the building using a pipe that ran up the side. In no time they were on the ground and crossing the street.

In hindsight, it was a funny sight of two girls being stalked by two stalkers who were also currently being stalked by two others. Beatrice and Lilith moved quietly behind the men, Ava and Camila were still walking ahead of them, completely oblivious to the situation occurring behind them.

“When we get to this alleyway, you grab the one on the left, I grab the one on the right,” Lilith said. Beatrice followed up to finish the statement, “Drag them down and handle them?” Lilith gave her a nod.

The girls moved swiftly and in unison to grab the men, arm around their neck, hand over their mouth. It caught them off guard good enough they were able to wrestle them into the alleyway.

Camila and Ava kept walking down the street completely oblivious to what had occurred behind them. Ava was excitedly telling Camila about a new Disney movie that was coming to theatres in the upcoming weeks and Camila was adding that they needed to see it. It was complete innocence on their end.

On Beatrice and Lilith’s end, they were walking out of the alleyway with blood-covered hands, but not their own blood. The men definitely wouldn’t be mugging or stalking anybody else after this night.

Lilith looked to Beatrice, “So, are you gonna go after them to talk?” Beatrice looked down the way at their figures in the distance and shook her head, “No, are you?” Lilith also responded with a shake of her head.

“Wanna go to the diner and get some food?” Lilith asked with a shrug, to which Beatrice responded with another shrug, “Yeah, sure. Misery loves company, or whatever they say.”
