Work Text:

As soon as Koushi opened his front door, Daichi knew his life was over. He was done for. Because there was no reason to keep going when perfection had already been reached.

Glasses.

Koushi was wearing glasses.

Cute little round things perched on his equally cute nose. They drew attention to the big hazel eyes laughing behind them, the little beauty mark in the corner of the left one.

And when Koushi smiled, the glasses climbed up his nose that scrunched adorably, cheeks tinted in pink.

Daichi groaned internally. How was this gremlin of a man simultaneously the cutest being alive and an absolute terror?

Daichi let his gaze wander over his best friend’s body, noticing the beautiful green blouse the man was wearing, and snorted when his eyes fell on the gray sweatpants and cute socks he was wearing underneath.

“Interesting attire today, your majesty.” Daichi commented with a grin.

He was rewarded with a pout.

Ahhhh these glasses were going to be the death of him.

“I had a meeting. Online.” Koushi replied with a glare, a hidden grin playing at the corner of his lips. “Come in, you stingy peasant.”

Daichi sputtered a laugh as he followed his friend inside, eyes stuck on Koushi’s fluffy gray hair. Koushi's profile had breath catching in Daichi's throat when he turned around to apologize for the state of the living room -as usual, covered in papers.

The thing was, Daichi had the biggest crush on Koushi. It wasn’t even a crush at this point, he was completely and utterly whipped for the man.

It wasn’t even funny.

Even though it sort of was.

Because Koushi was aware of it.

And Daichi was aware of the fact that Koushi was aware of it.

Daichi was also aware of the fact that Koushi had an equally massive big crush on him that wasn’t even just a crush anymore.

And Koushi was aware of the fact that Daichi was aware that he was aware that he was aware of his crush.

They were both aware. Intensely and acutely aware of the fact that they were both whipped for each other.

And like the two idiots they were, they had decided to play with it.

It had started when they were both very drunk at this party, a few months earlier. They had danced, and laughed, and sang, ending up cuddled up together on a couch.

And then they had been very close to kissing.

Until one of them had slurred : “the first one to kiss the other is a loser.”

That had been a pretty stupid thing to say considering they were both extremely competitive and equally stubborn.

So had begun this dance, this flirt, this teasing, that had been driving them and all their friends mad. Said friends were not aware of the bet, which was in part why the situation was funny; flirting had never been so interesting and delightful.

Knowing they both liked each other, it had become outrageously daring. Lingering gazes, wandering hands and teasing smiles were now common occurrences. Daichi’s hand on Koushi’s lower back, Koushi’s fingers hooked on his arms, a head on a shoulder, faces inches apart but not yet touching, smirks playing on their lips and taunting eyebrows raised in a dare.

It was fun —maddeningly so.

The most recent halloween party had nearly been the end of it all after Koushi almost fainted when Daichi showed up, khol framing his eyes, bare chest splattered in gold. The deal lights in the room had made it glitter like stars and Koushi had been inches away from dropping all pretence and claiming the man right then and there.

That other time where Koushi had been carrying heavy boxes around like it was nothing, flushed cheeks easily excused as being caused by the heat. Daichi had had a hard time keeping his eyes off his best friend's bulging arm muscles. Koushi might be lean, his low body fat only emphasized the muscles he got, and Daichi was a weak man.

Or again that occasion on which Daichi had unfortunately been wearing too tight trousers that had ripped at the thigh when he bent down to pick up his wallet on the ground, causing Koushi, Kuroo and Bokuto to choke on their drinks.

As it was, they were not only a menace to each other, but to the whole male-attracted population. Which most of their friends were, sadly and unfortunately, part of.

And now the glasses.

Daichi sat down on the couch while Koushi sprawled on the floor like some type of goblin.

“Since when do you wear glasses ?”

The question had been asked innocently. Koushi tried to hide his smile.

“I noticed I had trouble focusing when working so I went to check and they said I could use some reading glasses. I went to fetch them yesterday. Do you like them ?” Koushi looked up at him, the question asked with an innocent knowing grin.

Daichi crossed his arms over his chest and stared at him pensively. The stare lasted. Koushi’s cheeks ended up dusted in pink.

“Let me see, I need to take a closer look."

Daichi finally muttered, scooting off the couch to kneel in front of Koushi. He gently cupped his love’s cheek and took it all in. Eyes open wider than they had been a second earlier, cheeks pink under the glasses that framed his face perfectly. They followed the curve of his brows, kissed the beauty mark on his cheekbone. Koushi's lips were parted, silver hair falling on his forehead. He traced his thumb against Koushi’s jaw.

Something melted inside Daichi. So handsome.

Koushi averted his gaze, cheeks blazing, and Daichi bent down to let his forehead drop against his. “They are perfect.” He whispered, inches away from Koushi’s mouth.

He felt Koushi's breath catch before Koushi groaned and covered his face with his hands.

“Daichi ! You can’t do that to my heart you big idiot !” whined Koushi, rolling away to hide his face in his arms.

Daichi laughed as he moved to cover Koushi’s body, an arm snaking under and around the man that let out a little scream before curling into a ball. Daichi was draped over him, laughing.

“What are you doing ? Koushi, look at me.”

“No !” was the answer, a little squeak following the petulant tone.

Daichi smiled and nuzzled Koushi’s nape, slowly burrowing into the space between his neck and the arm that was hiding his face. Koushi let out a few playful protests as he kept going, laughing into the crook of Koushi’s neck until he reached his cheek and smiled against it. The frame of the glasses was pressed against his nose. “There you are.”

“You’re cheating.”Koushi said, sounding suspiciously cheerful. Daichi squeezed him in his arms until Koushi turned to face him.

“You’re not going to win like that, you know ?” Koushi’s eyes darted to Daichi’s lips for a second before finding his eyes again and Daichi felt his heart and belly warm.

“It’s always worth a try.”

“And don’t play innocent, you knew what you were doing when you put that shirt on.” Koushi added, frowning at Daichi behind his glasses.

Daichi raised his eyebrows, feigning innocence. “So you like my shirt ? I would have never guessed…”

Koushi swatted at him, pushing against his chest. He pulled away with a groan, trying to escape Daichi’s arms. “Let me go ! I can’t keep living in these conditions !”

“You think it’s easy for me ? You’re so cute I could eat you!”

“I’m not cute, Daichi, I’m divine.”

Daichi released Koushi with a laugh and watched him scramble to the couch.

“And stop it with the fond look, if you’re not going to kiss me, it’s forbidden.”

Koushi was glaring at him. Daichi sat up. He chuckled. His chest felt so warm, so open and light he could cry. He loved that man so much.

Something else in him was growing warm, and the urge to kiss the man was almost overwhelming.

He was fine with losing.

But he'd do it in style.

So he feigned disinterest, until Koushi was at his most unsuspecting.

They were in the kitchen, Koushi babbling about this or that, following Daichi around as he prepared their dinner.

The lights were dimmed, the soft glow of the bulbs reflecting in Koushi’s glasses and lighting his eyes with glitter. Daichi wasn’t looking at him directly, busy chopping shallots, listening to him cackle as he told a story about one of his students.

Suddenly, Daichi discarded his knife, turned and crowded Koushi against the counter, as if he were reaching for the cupboards over Koushi’s head. Instead, Daichi leaned against the wood, and brought his other hand to Koushi’s chin. Koushi’s eyes were wide open and a little gasp escaped him.

“Did you..? Did you just kabedon me?”

The words and his little chuckle strangled in his throat when Daichi’s lips finally found his.

It was like everything had finally fallen into place. Desire rushed through Daichi, unaltered love and yearning for Koushi who melted against him, soft lips parting to welcome him deeper. It was like taking a gulp of air after having spent years drowning, while simultaneously being pulled into the depth by a siren song.

Daichi’s heart was beating so fast, yet all he could focus on was Koushi, and his lips, and his sweet smell, and how soft his skin was.

Koushi’s hands rested on Daichi’s chest, gripping the fabric like a lifeline. The soft sound that left Koushi when Daichi pulled back broke something inside him.

Koushi blinked at Daichi, cheeks pink, eyes huge and mouth swollen. That mouth stretched into the most adorable smirk. “I won.”

And he was now wearing glasses.

He was going to be the death of Daichi.
