Chapter Text
Elaine sighs. Today, she is moving into her dorm room. Don’t get her wrong, she’s super excited to be accepted into OBA University, but leaving everything she’s ever known behind is getting her anxious. OBA University is everything Elaine has ever strived for. As one of the most diverse colleges, it accepts people regardless of their secondary gender as long as they’re up to OBA standard. This was a breath of fresh air as Elaine, an omega, was used to being turned away from opportunities due to the more traditional bunch. She’s an omega, sure, but she is just as capable as anyone else. Sure, she was a crybaby, and sure, she liked to present herself effeminately, but that doesn’t mean that she couldn’t write, goddamnit!
She’s getting distracted. Sighing, she heaves the last box into her step-dad’s truck. Distantly, she hears the telltale crashing that means Kameron, her step-dad, is trying to DIY his way out of a situation. God, how Elaine hates this man. Her step-dad and all of his misogynistic comments with thinly veiled racism has never been on Elaine’s good side.
“Ready, Kiddo?” Goddamnit, Elaine was so caught up in complaining about Kameron that she completely missed him walking up.
“Whatever, just hurry up.” Yeah, Elaine hated this man. She looked back at her house that had been her sanctuary for most of the major checkpoints in her life. Something glinted in the window. Elaine looked up, seeing her mother standing there, the usual frown on her face, the wrinkles pulling down her forehead, making her appear much older than she was.
Elaine turns away, shaking her head. She’s going to form her own life, one not formed around her mother’s expectations. Her mom was walking a thin line between expecting her to be the golden child and casting her and her brother into the shadows. Elaine had enough. She was no longer being constrained to the stereotypical role of an omega. She was going to ignore all the nay-sayers and defy all those traditional views.
“Here you are, telling me to hurry up, yet you’re just standing there. See anything you like?” Kameron says, smug smile on his face, eyebrow raised suggestively. Elaine scoffs, shuffling to the passenger seat and crawling in. With a slam, Kameron closes the driver side door and settles into the seat. With a press of a button, the truck sputters to life and Kameron roughly pulls out of the driveway and starts down the road.
Elaine shifts in her seat, looking out the window as her house gets smaller. She’s excited, don’t get her wrong, but it’s such a big change. Going to college, moving into a dorm, getting a roommate, God, Elaine hopes she gets along with her roommate. She couldn’t handle another antagonistic relationship like the one she has with her brother.
Buzzing starts in her pocket. She tries to ignore it but damn, whoever is calling her is persistent. Elaine pulls out her phone and scowls when she sees the name, “DICKHEAD”. Not hesitating, she declines the call and turns off her phone. Why is her brother calling her now? Mom probably told Jeff that she had gotten into the same college as him and he got pissed. She is not looking forward to that conversation.
She can feel Kameron glancing at her, and she shivers at his gaze. Kameron really is a disgusting man, laying his disgusting eyes on any woman no matter if she was an omega, beta, or alpha. If he doesn’t say what’s on his mind in three seconds, she’s going to snap.
“Sooooo…… excited for college?” Elaine doesn’t say anything, they’ve had this conversation six times already.
“Damn. Tough crowd.” She glares at the window.
“Know who your roommate is yet?” Why is he still trying?
“Maybe you’ll meet a nice alpha?” He glances towards her with a glint in his eye. Her eye twitches.
“Oh, God, don’t start this again, I do not need to meet an alpha, my worth is not based on how well I stick to the traditional standards of an-” Elaine snaps.
“Hey, I’m not trying to start an argument here, I’m just saying, maybe meeting an alpha will calm you down.”
“I don’t need to be calmed down!” She is seriously considering grabbing the steering wheel and hurtling them into a ditch. Kameron shrugs and keeps driving, obviously done with trying to goad her. Elaine crosses her arms, bad mood only getting worse. To think she had been excited to go to college, even if it meant a car ride with Kameron. What a fucking joke.

After a long ass and painful car ride, Elaine was finally here. OBA University! Er- well, the dorms anyway. She hops out of the car while Kameron sighs and kills the truck. Not caring about leaving him behind she rushes to the administration to find her dorm assignment. Deftly avoiding people, she weaves through the crowd and pushes through the door. After wrestling her way to the counter, she states her name to the secretary.
“Hmmm… Knotsmann…. Ah! Right here, there we go, Elaine… Room 304! You’ll be roomed with a beta, I hope that’s all right.?” The lady smiles at her kindly.
“Yeah, no, that’s totally fine. Thank you.” Elaine exhales, accepting her key from the lady at the desk. She doesn’t really care what secondary gender her roommate is, just as long as they don’t discriminate against her for being an omega in a non-traditional field.
Elaine makes her way out of the building and back to the truck. Ignoring Kameron’s enthusiastic greeting, she grabs the handle of her suitcase and heaves it out of the backseat, leaving Kameron to scramble to catch up. She turns back around, faces towards the dorms, and sets off with determination. She just knew she was going to make something out of herself. She had to.
