It has been eight months since he had returned to Konoha after his self-redemption journey. He has been staying with Sakura ever since. Most of Konoha was demolished during Pain’s attack - including the Uchiha village and his apartment when he was genin. Naruto and Kakashi offered their homes, but Sakura’s home was the only place he wanted to stay in (but of course he’ll never admit that to them).
Sasuke checked the clock for the nth time. There are still seven hours left since Sakura’s shift ends. The lone Uchiha was looking for something to do. He was done with most of the chores. He already washed the dishes and utensils they used for breakfast and making her lunch. He was also done with the laundry. The apartment was sparkly clean, even cleaner than the hospital - something he was proud of.
Going to the Hokage tower to visit Kakashi was out of the question. Either Kakashi would make him do some weird errand or use him to escape from his paperworks. Naruto was also out of the question. He’s so tired of eating ramen and of his talk-no-jutsu.
Sasuke laid his head on the coffee table and stared at Sakura’s bookshelf. He liked how the bookshelf fit in Sakura’s apartment, it was like Sakura left her mark in the apartment, a signature that this was hers and where she belongs to.
Sasuke kept staring at the bookshelf until he realized something doesn’t add up, the actual space the bookshelf is occupying vs the volume of the books. It was as if there was a hidden compartment. With nothing to do and lots of time to waste, Sasuke tried to figure out the secret Sakura's bookshelf was hiding.
After a few clicks and adjustments later, Sasuke found and opened the secret compartment in Sakura’s bookshelf. It was just another bunch of books to his dismay. But when he looked closely, it wasn’t just a bunch of books. It also wasn’t some esoteric medical books nor books containing classified information.
It was Sakura’s collection of adult books.
Who would have thought that among the three of them, she’s the one who would pick up Kakashi’s weird hobby?
Sasuke checked the clock again. Six and a half hours before Sakura’s shift ends. He decided to read some of the books and figure out what his soon-to-be-wife’s tastes in adult books and hopefully in real life.
Unexpectedly, Sasuke got hooked with Sakura’s adult books. He still wanted to read more but it was already time to fetch Sakura from the hospital. He fixed the bookshelf like how it looked before he discovered Sakura’s adult books. However he didn’t return the book he’s currently reading. He’ll find the time to finish it later, probably once Sakura is already asleep.
Few minutes after cuddling Sakura to sleep, Sasuke checked if she was indeed in deep sleep before getting the book. After hearing Sakura’s light snoring and feeling her deep breaths, Sasuke brought out the book and continued reading it.
He was so engrossed with the book that he barely felt Sakura wake up.
Sakura heard the rustling of paper beside her. What on earth was Sasuke reading in this unholy hour?! She opened her eyes and saw that he was just reading a book. She was about to close her eyes again and let Sasuke be. She had a long tiring day in the hospital and all she wanted was to sleep. However, it sank into her the cover of the book Sasuke was reading. It was one of her adult books!
“What are you reading?” Sakura blurted out loud.
“One of your adult books,” Sasuke nonchalantly replies as he flipped to another page.
A million of embarrassing thoughts run through Sakura’s mind, but being the smart girl she is, she retorted the one that she could use against Sasuke.
“Did you just go through my things without my permission?!”
“I was bored earlier, and your bookshelf intrigued me.” Sasuke replied with a straight face. However his voice and expression shifted to a soft and apologetic one as he asked.
“Do you hate it that I’m reading your adult books?”
It was easy to act angry if he acted like a cocky bastard. But how can Sakura act angry when he’s showing such a rare and charming expression?!
“No...Not re… really. It’s just that it’s embarrassing.”
“Tell me your favorite and I’ll reenact it for you on your next day off,” Sasuke teased with that signature smirk on his face.
“Argh!” Sakura gave Sasuke a blushed angry look before hiding under the covers. Despite being the source of her embarrassment, Sasuke’s laugh was the one that pulled her to sleep.
