"I looooove waffles!" Stephanie Brown exclaimed with delight as she took another bite of the pastry topped with whipped cream and little cherries.
"Waffles are cool. But not as much as chocolate cupcakes!" Jason Todd grinned in return, equally enthusiastic.
Edward Nashton granted the both of them a fond glance.
Nothing in his plans for this 1st of November implied ending up at a café with two children over the afternoon and letting them order what they wished.
With his spoon, he delicately detached a tiny segment of his slice of pumpkin pie he brought to his lips.
"I know!" Stephie abruptly shared her opinion, the kiddos sitting across from him around a small rectangular table. "You should invite Batman here next time! So that you will confess your feelings while eating cake to give you strength! I guarantee men are in the mood for love when they taste fruity pastries."
Edward's whole face turned red.
They talked about random subjects after freeing the rats and doing shopping, Ed demanded they skip the 'Bat-topic' for now. Looks like Steph decided it's time to get back at playing little love coach.
"I feel like I am the... worst babysitter ever," Eddie sighed after Jason approved by saying sending an invitation card for a standard date would be a 'better alternative than playing creepy weirdo obsessing over an even creepier weirdo dressed for Halloween'.
"You are not!" Stephie grinned. "You're cool."
"And funny," Jay supplemented. "Though I can't compare: never had a babysitter before."
They drifted for a bit, before Ed voiced a primary concern of his:
"I hope Batman likes pumpkin."
To what Stephanie inquired:
"You'd bake for him?"
"I would! I... practiced cooking and baking, thinking one day it'd... serve for a date. I make very good pumpkin pies."
"Geez," Jason chuckled. "Dat's so mushy."
"Hush, Jaybird," Steph laughed as well. "Let our boy be romantic! It's so cute when he tries."
Edward would have never bet he'd enjoy so much being made fun of by two giggling kids. He couldn't help though, soon he laughed with them at the, indeed, properly hilarious situation.
