It’s still dark when the sound of whining wakes up Yuudai. He creeps open his eyes only to see Titan, his 3-year-old black and white great dane staring back at him. Yuudai groans, knowing Titan is like this because he needs to be walked. But he’s still tired. “No. Go to bed.” He points to Titan’s bed, and to his thankfulness, Titan goes to lay in it. Maybe Gao can walk him soon, and Yuudai can get a few extra hours of sleep.
Or maybe not.
Yuudai sighs as the same sound of constant whining pulls him from his sleep. When he opens his eyes again Titan has moved in front of him. Again. “Alright, fine. You win. Let me at least put on my pants first.” he gets up from the bed, rubbing his eyes and going to grab his shorts. Once he has those on, he leashes Titan and they go for a 5:00 am walk.
When they both return, Yuudai is unable to go back to sleep. He takes off his shoes and sees lights on in the kitchen and by the bathroom. “So now he’s awake huh?” Yuudai sighs for what feels like the 100th time in that one morning, but feels a warmth in his chest anyway, as he goes to meet his boyfriend in the bathroom to do their morning routine.
Gao is humming some pop song when Yuudai walks into the bathroom, not even noticing he’s there. “Good morning, Ku.” Gao turns to look at him, the toothbrush still in his mouth. He turns back around to spit and clean out his mouth before facing his boyfriend again with a warm smile. “Morning Yu!” Gao is practically beaming. Lord knows why so early in the morning. They don’t even have practice today. “I want to go out soon. Maybe around 9, since I would like to get there when the shops first open, transportation will take around an hour either way.”
Yuudai moves his head to the side in confusion. “Why is that?” usually Gao isn’t interested in going to shops early. “I just need some stuff. Come with me?”
“Okay”
Gao is the first one to shower, because he had always been faster at getting ready between the two. After he’s dressed and ready Yuudai gets out of the shower already having his clothes laid out on the bed. It’s a baggy red superman shirt and he has on black basketball shorts that go down to his mid-calf to match. He looks over to see Gao staring at him with a blank expression. He’s dressed in a creme orange button-down with black jeans. “No,” Gao says with a stern expression on his face. Yuudai knows exactly what’s coming, trying to keep the smile off of his face. “What? Is something wrong?”
Gao furrows his brows, 3 seconds away from pouting. “Why are you going out dressed like Adam Sandler?” Yuudai can’t help but chuckle at that, he and his boyfriend’s sense of style always clashing with each other. “What's wrong with how Adam Sandler dresses?” Yuudai raises a brow, looking at his boyfriend who playfully rolled his eyes and let out a sigh before a small smile. “Yeah yeah, okay. Let’s just go come on.”
They walk to the train station, hand in hand in comfortable silence, considering it’s still quite early and Gao knows how limited Yuudai is in a conversation at these times. He knows they’ll just sit on their phones and look out the window of the moving train. Gao’s okay with that.
They finally get there around 10:30, the pair still walking hand in hand like earlier except the air is less silent, them talking about stuff like practice, movies they’re going to watch later, and what stores they’re going to go into. Yuudai sees a small shop he wants to go into, it’s small but looks like he could find something. “Hey, Ku I want to go in there alright? I’ll be back in a bit, you can call me if you need to find me, okay?” Gao turns to him, nodding, and gives Yuudai a cheek kiss.
Yuudai walks in and was right. It’s small, but it looks nice. He walks around to see different things, but there’s one thing that catches his eye. It’s an Astro boy figurine. It’s about 6 inches tall, and there’s a matching Zog plushie that comes with it as well. It’s perfect. He picks up a few treats and toys for Titan as well while he’s there and goes to check out and meet with Gao, giddy about giving him his gifts.
He sees that Gao texted him telling him where he is, so that’s the direction he heads. It seems he’s been done shopping a little bit ago and went to get snacks for them during their planned movie day. Yuudai walks to see Gao near the train station at a food kiosk. Gao turns to look at him and smiles, handing him a box filled with yakisoba. “Here, you didn’t really eat today, thought you’d be hungry.” Yuudai smiles, his face flushing. He was a little hungry. He thanks his boyfriend as they walk back to get on the train home.
“So what’d you buy?” Gao asks curiously when they walk into the genkan. Yuudai glances at the bag he’s holding, smiling to himself about what’s inside. “I’ll show you. But first, we have to change into our house clothes.” Gao squints but complies nonetheless.
They’re both changed and on the couch when Yuudai takes the bag and picks out Titan’s toy. He whistles to get his attention. Titan is ecstatic and takes the toy, taking a seat next to Gao to play with it. “You got Titan new stuff?” Yuudai turns to look at him and shrugs. “Yes but that’s not all.” He takes out the figurine with the matching Zog plush and hands it to Gao. He stares at it for a moment, before deciding to reach out and take it. Poor boy looks like he’s on the verge of tears. “You got this for me in that little store?”
Yuudai nods. Gao sets the stuff down and pulls him into a tight hug, Yuudai kissing his temple. “Thank you, Yu. I love them.” Yuudai smiles and sighs in relief and happiness, he loves the feeling of warmth he gets when giving Gao a gift. “You’re welcome, Ku. I love you.”
“I love you too.”
They curl up with one another and fall asleep watching Astro Boy that night. With nothing but a Zog plushie and sweet kisses between them.
