Ill Wind

Summary:

“
When he woke up he was laying on her lap and she was playing with his hair. If he didn’t feel like hell, he would feel in heaven.

He turned his head and met with her eyes. They were kind, warm.

Speaking of warm, the blanket on him was suffocating him, he felt like he was burning, and realized he was also sweating. He kinda felt bad for Uraraka for playing with his hair when it was so sweaty and gross.
“

Pro hero Bakugou hasn’t gotten sick in years, and forgets what it even feels like. He ignores it despite his girlfriend’s protests and ends up miserable.

Notes:

Self indulgent Kacchako sickfic.

Work Text:

Bakugou got back home from work and dropped his gauntlets with a long sigh the moment he entered.

“Long day?” The brunette asked from the couch. She was wearing her pajamas, a light pink tank top that slid off her shoulders, and matching shorts. She was holding a cup of tea, watching a drama on their living room’s tv.

He heavily sat beside her and flopped his head on their green couch.

“The longest” he replied and rubbed his temples

“Why won't you take a hot shower and join me for a movie or something?”

“Yeah” he replied and silently and tiredly got up and went to their shower.

He took his time in the shower, zoning out and enjoying the hot water on his tired body.

Eijirou was out on vacation today so he filled his spot, which caused him to be patrolling for 12 hours straight.

When he woke up this morning he wasn’t that eager to go to work anyway, plagued with a small headache and a stuffy nose from the flowers Ochako’s mom gave them the day before. Apparently he was allergic to them, cause he wouldn’t stop sneezing and coughing ever since they got them.

This little headache, given his long ass day at work, only got worse, and when he got back to their apartment he was dead tired on his feet.

He got out of the shower and put on an old t shirt and a pair of baggy flannel boxers (fuck trunks, he just wanted to be comfortable right now), got back to the living room, and sat on the couch. He couldn’t help but feel chilly, so without asking he covered himself with the blanket that was covering his girlfriend.

“Katsuki you're stealing all of the blanket” she pouted

“I’m cold”

“So wear some pants”

“Okay mom” he said with annoyance, rolling his tired eyes.

“Did you eat dinner?”

“I’m not really hungry”

They settled in a comfortable silence as Ochako kept watching her drama

“When is this over?”

“Fifteen minutes-ish What do you wanna watch after?”

“I think I’m actually gonna drop out early, I’m tired”

“Okay, I’ll join you in bed once I’m done, I need to wake up early tomorrow so it’s probably for the better,” she said with a smile, eyes never off the screen, as he left the room.

Bakugou got under the covers of their bed and shivered, his head felt like it smashed against his skull and he suppressed a cough as his body tried to shake itself to warmth.

He closed his eyes and tried to fall asleep as his head spun a little.

He heard the door open and felt the weight of his girlfriend getting in bed, she got under the blankets and kissed his neck.

“Katsuki, you’re really hot”

“Ochako i'm not really in the mood right now”, he groaned.

“No, you’re like really warm” she put her hand on his cheek and kissed his forehead lightly, “I think you’re running a fever”

“I’m fine, I just need to sleep”

“I hope you feel better tomorrow” she kissed his cheek and flopped her head back on her pillow

“I feel fine”

“Good night Kats”

“Night” he said and turned his head to the side, feeling his eyelids getting heavier by the second.

.

Uraraka tried to get out of bed as discreetly as she could, to not wake Bakugou up, but the grumpy blond was already half awake.

He lifted his head and leaned on the headboard as he coughed.

“Oh did I wake you up? I’m sorry”

“It’s fine, I was already awake” he said as he rubbed his eyes.

His head still hurt, in addition his throat now felt raw and swallowing burnt a little. Great.

“How are you feeling?”

“Okay”

“Shouldn’t you call for a sick day today?”

“I’m not sick”

“Katsuki…”

“I can’t miss out work anyway, Kirishima’s on vacation and there’s no one to cover for us both”

“You still shouldn’t go to work sick, it could be dangerous”

“Ochako I’m not sick.”

She kissed his forehead

“I definitely think you are”

“No, I don’t get sick”

It’s true, in the three years they studied together in UA, and the additional three they’ve been dating, he never got sick. Not once. Except for maybe two times he’s thrown up, but that was from alcohol, and he’s learned his lesson. Ochako got sick plenty of times, and he found himself at least once a year making soup and nursing his girlfriend back to health from a cold. But he never got sick. He was certain he forgot what feeling sick even felt like.

“Just take it easy it today, do some office work or something”

“We’ll see”

“Katsuki”

“Im really-“ he coughed, “I’m fine”

She clicked her tongue

“It’s those stupid flowers, I told you, I think I’m allergic to them”

“My mom picked them up from their garden” she sounded insulted

“I'm sorry”

“Anyway just try and take it easy today, I have to go! I’ll try to pick up ingredients for soup on my way back home”

“You don’t need to”

“Bye! Love ya”, she blew him a goodbye kiss and hurried to leave the room

“Love you”

He leaned his head against the headboard and coughed heavily. He tried to suppress his coughs next to Ochako, but he really felt it itching in his chest all morning.

He sighed and got out of bed, stopping for a second when the corners of his vision got blurry.

He was nearing 22, and was front lining Best Jeanest’s agency, with the talks of opening his own agency, so he had a lot of paperwork to fill. He decided to head to the office to get an easy start for the day and hopefully get rid of this morning headache before going patrolling.

He went through papers and reports, coughing in between, and downing his already third coffee for the morning, feeling a little jittery from all the caffeine.

“Chargerbolt is in the house!” Kaminari said, as he uninvitedly entered his office. He did that a lot.

“What do you want” he hostilely said, his voice sounding a little off too.

“Oh bro you look like hell”

He glared at him, with zero intent to humor his high school friend’s antics.

“No for real”

“I’m just tired, I’m covering for Kirishima while he’s away”

“Damn you did a double yesterday?”

“Yeah”

“I would die”

“Please do that”

“Haha very funny” his friend sarcastically said, “I don’t know how Uraraka puts up with you”

“Just fine”

“She’s always been such a sweetheart, really. Maybe opposites do attract?”

“You’re just jealous because you turned your high school girlfriend gay”

“Low blow man, Kyoukas always been bi”

“Well, she said bye to your relationship”

“You’re meaner when you’re sick”

“I’m not sick for fuck’s sake”

“You look sick”

“You look annoying”

“Well, I’m just here to announce my presence to my dear old high school friend, but im feeling very unwanted”

“Go do your work”

“Okay mister bossy” the other blond said and left the room.

He really did like Denki, they were good friends, and now that they worked in the same agency they got along even better than in high school, Denki knew not to take Bakugou’s insults to heart, and vice versa.

But he was too loud and energetic, and too much for him to handle right now when he was feeling so groggy and tired.

He locked his office’s door and continued working on his files through his headache and spontaneous coughing for another hour or so before finally stepping out to patrol.

It was the beginning of fall, the weather was just perfect, not too hot, not too cold. Bakugou still felt chilly and cold as he walked outside though.

He decided to fly, to warm himself up a bit. He let out a blow, bigger and less concentrated than he intended, and started soaring through the city.

It was difficult to keep this up though, having to stop to catch his breath and cough every few minutes. His explosions were off and unfocused too, it felt like he was in his first year of high school again, with the little preciseness he had on them (which was still more accurate and impressive than average).

He stopped some small-time villains, mostly trying to perform robberies, and was grateful no big threat arrived when the next shift texted him they’re on the field and he can go back home.

His headache worsened, and he probably yelled a little too much stopping those villains because his throat hurt a lot more than it did this morning, it felt like there was a marble in the back of his throat whenever he swallowed.

He got back to his office and changed to civilian clothing, throwing on his hoodie’s cap and putting on a pair of sunglasses, in hopes to avoid paparazzi and the press on his way back home.

He walked back home, now that the adrenaline accompanying patrol wore off, and the caffeine sweated out of his body, he felt truly awful.

The walk back home took almost twice the time it usually takes him, and he was truly exhausted when he got back.

Uraraka was still at work, she texted him saying she’s stuck in a hostage situation and will come back later.

He showered in the hottest temperature setting his shower has to offer, and dropped right into bed. He couldn’t care less about naps fucking up his sleeping schedule, he was exhausted.

He woke up later, sweating, from a coughing fit, which left his throat somehow even more sore, and ears ringing, and he realized it was already dark outside.

He heard noises from the kitchen and somewhat smelt soup through his stuffy nose.

He got up, vision darkening around the corners again, and walked to the kitchen lightheaded.

“You’re up” his girlfriend smiled at him from behind the stove. He sat on the bar chairs near their kitchen island.

“How did that hostage situation go?” He said, voice far more gravely and weak than it was from the last time he spoke.

“We got them out, some scumbag with a dangerous looking but weak ass quirk just gave us all a little scare. How are you feeling?”

“Fine”

“Babe you look terrible”

“I just woke up”

“Are you hungry?”

“Not particularly”, he said, but thinking about it he didn’t eat anything all day, maybe that’s why he was feeling so off, “I can eat though”

“Great! I made soup and okayu!” she excitedly said, probably proud of her cooking, since it was mostly Bakugou’s job. Uraraka wasn’t a bad cook, but Bakugou’s cooking was good on another level so he mainly did it.

“I’m not sick…”

“Okay grumpy, I just craved some comfort food after today”

She plated them both a plate and they sat eating in comfortable silence.

“I saw Deku today” she said

“Really? How is he?” He asked, no venom behind it whatsoever. Bakugou apologized to him a long time ago, and only friendly competition remained.

“He’s doing really well! He said he’s probably gonna co-manage All Might’s agency with him”

“Huh, I’ll open my own agency before him” he smiled to himself.

“You’re such an asshole” she joked

“Yet you still love me” he said, and turned his head to cough into the crook of his elbow.

“Bless you”

“I got food down the wrong pipe that’s it”

“Whatever you say” she said, but handed him a glass of water, which he gladly accepted.

He finished all of his soup and a half of his okayu. He felt oddly full for the amount of food he ate.

“Are you done?” Ochako asked him

“Uh, yeah, it was really good, thanks”

“You didn’t finish it”

“Got full”

“I’ll let you off the hook from doing dishes tonight” she said. It was their deal, whoever doesn’t cook does the dishes.

“I can”, his original sentence was ‘I can do the dishes, it's no big deal’ , but he decided to be stingy with words, with how much his throat burned.

“Katsuki just go to bed, it’s fine”

“I just woke up”, his voice was pretty gruff to begin with, it sounded completely raspy now.

“So go to the couch or something, I don’t know, just rest, you’re too hard on yourself when you’re clearly not feeling well”

“I’m fine” he said as he suppressed another cough.

He changed position to the couch, lifting his legs on the coffee table and covering himself with a blanket, as he was suddenly feeling very cold.

He put on a psychological thriller that he already watched on the tv and waited for his girlfriend to join him on the couch before starting the movie.

Uraraka quickly joined him, serving him a hot cup of ginger and honey tea. She was so considerate, both through words and actions. Sometimes Katsuki thought he didn’t deserve her.

He sipped the tea as they started the movie, momentarily relieving his burning throat.

He really tried to watch the movie. He really did. He watched it before, it’s a great film, interesting too. But every passing minute he felt his eyelids growing heavier. He leaned his head on his girlfriend’s shoulder and gave in to sleep.

Sleep was supposed to help him, right? Because when he woke up he felt so much worse. The lights of the tv burning his eyes, throat on fire, his head felt like someone was drilling a hole in it, he felt dizzy and kind of clammy. Lots of fun.

He sat back up, again waiting dizzily a few seconds until his blurred vision cleared up. He opened his mouth to speak, but instead a wet coughing fit emerged. Uraraka put her hand on Bakugou’s back until it settled.

“I’m going to bed” he tried to say through his fastly disappearing voice.

“Should I call the agency telling them you won’t be coming tomorrow”

“No” he tried to say, and made big hand gestures to get what he was trying to say across

“Are you serious Katsuki?”

“I’ll be fine by tomorrow” he mouthed, and slowly walked to their bedroom, now freezing cold. He flopped onto bed, and was out in seconds.

Next time he woke up it was the middle of the night and something was wrong, very wrong. He was sweating buckets, and shivering, but it felt like he was burning inside. His head felt like it was about to explode, and the whole room spun.

He tried to breathe slowly in the futile attempt to calm down and prevent what was about to happen. When he closed his eyes and the room kept spinning he realized it was unavoidable.

He got up, and walked quickly through the haze of his blurry vision to the bathroom.

He knelt on his knees and leaned his throbbing forehead against the cool porcelain. He tried to control his breathing, but he breathed a little too hard and triggered a coughing fit.

Soon after, he doubled in front of the toilet, and his dinner made a reappearance.

He heaved and gagged, and was truly miserable, when he felt a comforting cool hand on his trembling back.

“Katsuki..” Ochako said, sadness, or maybe pity decorating her voice, as she patted his back.

After a few more minutes of dry heaving he spat into the toilet and flushed it. He leaned his back and head on the wall, as he shakily tried to calm his breathing.

“I feel like shit” he weakly said

She kissed his forehead and ran her fingers through his damp and sweaty hair. “I know”

She left soon after. Bakugou felt cool without her presence, like there was something missing there.

She got back to the bathroom with a glass of water and handed it to him. He took one small sip before handing it back to her.

“Drink some more please”

“I can't,” his raspy voice said as he breathed to suppress another gag.

He quickly changed position back to kneeling in front of the toilet, and vomited again. She patted his back the entire time.

When he was done he flushed the toilet and slowly got up and washed his face and mouth. After that he walked into bed, and practically fell onto it, face down.

“I’m texting Jeanist saying you won’t be coming tomorrow”

He nodded his head yes, face still slumped to the bed.

Uraraka chuckled.

.

Bakugou shuffled slowly out of sleep. He didn’t know what time it was, he still felt like absolute crap, but at least not as bad as he felt last night, or this morning? He didn’t really know what time that whole thing happened, he just knew he never wanted to feel like this ever again.

He rubbed his eyes and ruffled his hair, as Uraraka quietly walked in.

“Oh you’re awake”

He looked at her with tired eyes, throat too strained and raw to even try to speak.

“How do you feel?”

He tried to make a face that expresses “shit”

“I made you some tea” she handed him a hot mug.

“Why are you not at work?” He tried to say, but his voice was officially gone. The acid from puking last night plus whatever illness this is has defeated Bakugou’s loudness.

“It’s my day off today..Did you lose your voice completely?”

He pouted his face and nodded. Looking about ten years younger.

“You know you’re kind of cute when you’re sick”

He flipped her off and hugged his mug of hot tea, taking a long careful sip, as he heard camera clicks.

“Oh shit my phone wasn’t on silence” she laughed

He tried to scream at her, but that reminded his body that it liked to cough lately and he burst into a coughing fit.

Uraraka chuckled and quickly escaped the room.

A few moments later he received a notification on his phone from his old class 1-A groupchat, which stayed active well past their high school days.

Ochako:

Extremely rare: Bakugou katsuki taking a day off

Attached to it was a photo of him in bed, looking sweaty and pale like a ghost, nose and cheeks bright pink, covered in blankets and cradling a cup of tea.

Tape face:

What kind of biochemical weapon took Bakugou down?!

Pikachu:

Is it the plague???!

Deku:

I hope you get better soon Kacchan!

I fucking hate you Ochako

Ochako:

You know you love me

Next time I won’t be considerate

and puke on your side of the bed

Ochako:

😘😘

the end

The title for this work is taken from a Radiohead song by the same title. I didn’t really have a name so that’s the best I could go for, unoriginal I know. If you think of a better title go ahead.
