Morning at the Hikawas'

Summary:

It's a slow morning for Sayo and Hina.

Notes:

Sometimes you just feel like something short and fluffy, yknow?

Work Text:

Sayo turned towards the dim red glow of her clock, willing her eyes to focus from their just-awoken state. 5:30 on the dot. She hadn’t set an alarm, but her body had gotten so used to the routine that she always woke up at the same time anyway.

Despite what most seemed to think of her, she had never been much of a morning person. In truth, the only things that got her out of bed in a timely manner were her sense of duty and the promise of a cheap coffee pod. But today was Sunday, and that meant she could enjoy her morning exactly how she liked - by going back to sleep.

Or she would, if it weren’t so damn hot in here.

Maybe it would be prudent to get rid of the blankets. Her movements weren’t nearly as organised as her thoughts, and the offending linens were unceremoniously dumped onto the floor. She’d remake the bed later.

That done, she leant her head back against the pillow. Ah, of course. With the sheets gone, the culprit was now plainly visible: one little sister clinging to her side. Hina must have snuck in after she had fallen asleep.

Just a few months ago Sayo would have thrown her on the floor along with the blankets, and given her a stern lecture about respecting her privacy and personal space to boot. But she’d been doing her best to become a big sister she could be proud of, and part of that meant understanding where Hina was coming from.

And, though it was embarrassing to admit, she could understand where Hina was coming from here. There was something nostalgic about the whole situation, like when they shared a bed as kids, long before they started fighting every day. Plus, it did feel rather nice to be held.

If it felt nice to be held… surely it must also feel nice to hold someone too, right?

Cautiously, she brought her arm around Hina, resting it on her back. She squeezed her gently, and Hina stirred slightly before clinging to her even tighter. It had been a long time since she’d hugged Hina, or anyone really, and she found it was indeed a pleasant sensation. She felt safe, warm, and peaceful.

Almost unconsciously, she raised her other hand to Hina’s head, slowly running her fingers through her hair. Hair that she didn’t recall ever feeling so soft, or smelling so comforting. Logically she knew they used the same products, but there was still something different about it. As she gently teased out the knots in her hair, she noticed a low rumbling sound. Was Hina… purring?

Sayo couldn’t help but smile.
