After the Party

Summary:

Now that Solomon's birthday party is over, MC wants to check on Mammon.

Notes:

This was cross-posted on my tumblr (here).

I know Solomon's birthday was back in December but I kept forgetting I had this fic. It's inspired by @still-a-morosexual-help's tumblr post about why Mammon acted the way he did. If you haven't seen any of their stuff, go look! It's amazing and incredibly insightful.

Work Text:

MC saw Solomon out of the house when the festivities were finally over.  He thanked them once again, arms full of cards and presents, and told them to get some rest.  MC agreed and shut the door before turning and heading up the stairs to Mammon's room.

He'd retired early, claiming he was all partied out and needed to rest up so he could go to the casino tomorrow night.  MC didn't buy it and neither did anyone else, if the pointed silence from Lucifer and the uncharacteristic frown from Asmo were to be believed.

They knocked softly on his door and waited for a few moments before letting themself in, blinking as their eyes adjusted to the darkness.  The only light source was the lone bulb hanging over his loft.  He always left that on when he slept.

MC finally made out the figure in the bed, bunched up in blankets and shifting occasionally.  They sighed, letting their shoulders fall, and toed off their shoes and socks, leaving them to the side of the door.  Then they stripped to their underwear and snagged his oversized sweatshirt off the back of the couch.  (He'd deny it forever, but MC was certain he only got it so they could "steal" a piece of his clothing and comfortably wear it without the fear of it being too tight or getting stretched out.)  They automatically lifted the collar to their nose and took a deep breath, inhaling the scent of his deodorant and his cologne and his soap and him .  MC was aware that this action made them seem all the more like a sappy, love-drunk fool but ... if the shoe fit.

They finally made their way to his bed and let themself under the covers with him, reaching out until their hand connected with his arm, and then they moved closer, tucking their feet between his ankles as the hand slid around to his stomach and they could finally feel the warmth of his back against their chest and the tickle of his hair on their nose and every steady rise and fall of his diaphragm against their palm.  And still they moved closer, their knees pressing into the back of his knees and their mouth finding his scalp and it was only at that moment that they could let out their breath and with it the stress of the day.  Their eyes slid closed.

Mammon stirred a minute later, rolling over and throwing his arm around their waist, half asleep and mumbling their name with casual reverence.  The crown of his head found the tip of their chin and he nosed at their neck with a few lazy kisses.

"Hey, love," MC whispered.

"Mm, hey treasure."  His hands dipped under the hem of their - well, his - sweatshirt and his fingertips danced over the bare skin of their hips.

"I didn't mean to wake you."

"'S okay."  He took an audible breath, exhaling against their throat.  "You're good to wake up to."  He pulled out of their embrace just enough to grab his D.D.D. and check the time.  "The party's over already?"

"Everyone was tired, and Solomon wanted to work on his water some more."  They bit their lip.  "Do you want to talk about it?"

Mammon winced, looking away but pressing his legs closer to theirs.  "Whaddya mean?"

"Writing 'MC will never be yours' on your card?  Challenging Solomon to a contest for my affections?  Running away and crying when you lost?  Going to bed early ?  I'm worried about you."

"Don't be," he said stubbornly.  "I'm fine.  It's just - how come he got to hang out with ya all week?"

"He needed help with his project."  They reached up and pushed his bangs aside, letting their fingers linger on his temple.  "And being his assistant is helping me learn a lot more about magic, too."

Mammon huffed.  "Can't ya do that some other time?  Like when you're stuck in the Human Realm?  I mean, since you can see each other whenever ya like, anyway."

Ah.   There it was.  MC leaned close, bumping their nose to his in a bunny kiss.  "Is that what's bothering you?  That Solomon can visit me whenever he wants?"

He rolled onto his back but kept a hand on them.  "I mean - he's not - it's not like I wanna - what's so great about him anyway?  Just 'cause he's smart and good at magic and he can -"  His voice cracked and he grew quiet.  MC waited, watching his tense form in the darkness.  Then Mammon sighed, slumping like all the fight vanished from him.  "He's human.  Just like you."

"Okay."

"You guys could do whatever ya wanted and it wouldn't matter if the three realms were on speakin' terms.  He could ..."  He draped an arm over his eyes.  "Nothin' could stop you from gettin' married."

MC blinked, dumbfounded.  "I've never thought about it, but I guess that's ... technically true.  Not that it matters, because I don't want to be with Solomon."

"He has feelings for you."

"And that's his problem."  They both rolled back onto their sides, facing each other once again.  "Mammon, I promise you have nothing to worry about from him.  We're friends and he's my tutor.  That's it.  Besides," they added with a grin even as their face heated, "there's only one being in the three realms I'd even consider marrying, and I'm looking right at him."

A beat.  Then Mammon said, "There's someone behind me?"

MC hit him with their pillow, which led to Mammon confiscating it, which led to MC trying to tickle him, which led to Mammon rolling on top of them to restrain them, which inevitably led to them making out.

"I love you," MC breathed when they broke apart, moving to trail kisses down his neck.  "I love you so much; it doesn't matter how long I'm away from you or where I am.  I always love you, every second of every day, and I want to be with you until the end of time."  They punctuated this with a soft bite to his collarbone.  "And I'm gonna keep telling you and doing everything I can to show you until you have absolutely no room to worry about it."

"I - I love you too."  He buried his face in their shoulder.  "I'm sorry.  You're always so nice to me, even when I don't -"  A deep, stuttering breath.  "I'm sorry," he repeated.  "I know everyone likes you but - gah, I just love you so much it drives me crazy!"

They laughed, nuzzling the side of his head.  "At least you're in good company."  They twirled the baby hairs on the back of his neck.  "I get it.  It feels like we never have enough time just to ourselves."

He groaned in agreement.

"But we do have right now."

Mammon pulled away to look at them.  "Careful with whatcha say next, treasure.  You know how I get when you talk like that."

MC grinned.  "And no matter how much or how little time we have, it doesn't change the fact that I'm yours."

He inhaled sharply.  "You're mine," he echoed, an edge to his voice.

"And how lucky I am to be yours."  They reached up, cradling his face in their hands and bringing him closer, pressing their forehead against his.  Their breaths intermingled.

"Dammit," Mammon breathed.

"Kiss me."

Mammon kissed them.  Then he kissed them again.  And again.  And again.  And again.

MC moved their legs out from underneath him, bending their knees up so his hips could rest in between their thighs.

"Ya mean it?" Mammon asked when they broke apart.

MC narrowed their eyes, trying to recall what they'd told him.  "Yes," they finally said, their hands still firm on his face, thumbs caressing the tops of his cheekbones.  "Yes, Mammon, I'm lucky to be yours."

He let out a noise suspiciously close to a whimper.  "S-say it again."

"I'm lucky to be yours."  They kissed him.

"Again."  Their lips were still brushing.  MC didn't want to let him get too far away.

"I'm."  Kiss.   "Lucky."  Kiss.   "To."  Kiss.   "Be."  Kiss.   "Yours."  With this, they kissed him deeply, tangling one hand in his hair and moving to wrap their legs around him.  The movement made him moan into their mouth.

MC knew that this hadn't made his insecurities magically disappear, and they'd need to have a longer discussion about this in the near future, but that could wait.  Tonight they just wanted to focus on making sure he knew how lucky they were, how much they loved him.

"And," Mammon gasped out the next time they broke for air, "and I'm yours too.  And I'm lucky.  And I want ..."  His hands hovered over the hem of their sweatshirt.  "This mine?"

Fine, his sweatshirt.

"I stole it.  I can always take it off, if it bothers you."

"Aw, you don't hafta."  Then his eyes widened.  "Wait, yes.  You should .  But keep it.  Keep the shirt.  But take it off now."

They laughed.  "Jeez, Mammon, make up your mind."

"It's your own damn fault -"  He stopped short when they removed the sweatshirt.  "Yeah."

They opened their arms to him.  "Come here, love."

He wasted no time moving into their embrace.  "I'm not as good with words as you."  He pressed frenzied kisses to their collarbone.  "Lemme show ya.  Lemme show you what ya mean to me."  He moaned when MC arched into his touch.  " Please ."

They hated to stop him, but...  "No."  They tugged his hair and he pulled away.  "No, because it's my turn to show you ."  They flipped positions and straddled his thighs.  He stared at them with wide, awestruck eyes.  MC leaned close, brushing their lips against his once.  "Will you let me do that for you?"

He nodded jerkily, and they began showing him .

Rest could wait until later, after all.
