“What’s wrong? Are you okay?” The man quickly became concerned. Your heart fluttered at his kindness. “Y-yeah..massive headache, I guess.” You replied, laying down on the bed. Just now you noticed how comfortable and soft it is. “Oh .. right! You should rest, just like Amy said. I-I’ll leave you.” Just as he started to walk away, you asked him one more thing; “What’s your name? I never got it.” He turned his head and looked at me with a tiny smirk on his face. “Knuckles .. Knuckles the Echidna.”

Chapter 1: Where is this?

Chapter Text

“AAAAAAAH!” You screamed, flying out of a portal and landing with a hard thud against the grassy ground. Your body ached all over. Feeling as if you could barely move, (which was in fact true), you looked back and saw through the closing portal the last moments of what was left of your homeworld, as darkness fell over you and your body goes limp.

You stirred awake. Your body still ached all over. You groaned as you attempted to sit up in a .. bed? You start to panic; overloaded with many questions, you tried to figure out where you were. You are in some kind of rounded wooden hut, with a fan attached to the ceiling, running. It is an open room, decorated with mostly the color red. You could see the messy kitchen, the living room space, and even a little space for a tiny indoor gym setup. Looking at your own body, you were all bandaged up. Clearly, you got the sense this was someone’s home.

Deciding if it’s a good idea to get up from the bed, you went for the attempt. It didn’t go so well as you found out you couldn’t even stand. Failing at trying to latch onto the nightstand to catch yourself, you fell face-first onto the floor. “Owww..” You mumbled into the wooden boards as you groaned, trying to at least get onto your side. As soon as that happened, the sound of a door being opened rang in your ears. Panic rose in you. Heavy footsteps creaked the wooden boards and soon someone was beside you. A rather tall, big-knuckled man? stood over you. He then helped you up and back onto the bed. “Wha..” You mumbled, lost. “Be more careful, you are injured.” He said. You gave him a ‘you think?’ look, but he didn’t seem to get it.

It suddenly became awkward. “Where…am I?” You finally mustered up the will to ask. “Seaside Island, outside of Hedgehog Village.” He replied. You thought about it for a few; it was unfamiliar. “Oh-” Suddenly your head started to pound and you grabbed it with one of your hands. Knuckles the Echidna.” He said with a lot of confidence. You smiled with the little strength you had. “Y/N .. Y/N is my name..” And at that, you drifted off to sleep.

Opening your eyes, you blinked a few times. Sitting up carefully in the bed, you see you haven’t moved. Well, this proved it wasn’t a dream; what happened earlier, that is. Observing the light outside, it seemed to be mid-day, maybe the start of the evening. This didn’t help with anything, though, as you can’t remember what it was like when you first woke up. For all you know, it could be a new day, month, year? Yeah, the panic is settling in.

You decided to try and get up again, this time being more prepared so you don’t fall. You found out that you can stand, terrific. Next, you decided to see if you can take a step or two. Holding onto the nearest furniture, (just in case), you made your way to the open kitchen area. Just then did you realize you were hungry; starving, even. On the countertop, there was a piece of paper. Is it for you is the question. You thought about why wouldn’t it be and came up with one reason. Curiosity taking over, you reach for it and pick it up.

As your eyes read, it said:
“Hey Y/N!,
In case you wake up and are hungry, there is a plate of food for you
in the fridge. If no one is there, one of us will be back soon.
Please be careful and enjoy!
~Amy (A friend of Knuckles)

You set the paper back down on the counter. Amy. You heard that name before, back with your first interaction with Knuckles. Your thoughts shifted to why she wrote the note. Your best guess was that he was busy and wasn’t home. You then wondered what ”one of us“ meant. Maybe more friends? Before you could proceed your stomach growled loudly. You forgot about your starvation. Moving over to the fridge you opened it and scanned for the plate. On the middle shelf, there it was, all neat and full. Grabbing it carefully, you then set it down and took a seat at the counter just beside the note. The plate is neatly put together; it consists of a nice balance of meat, veggies, fruits, and a few cookies.

Within minutes you finished it. Just as you were going to stand up, the front door opened. An average height pink female wearing a short reddish-pink dress, high-knee purple socks, and pink plus purple shoes walked in. “Oh! You found the food, great!” She commented. The girl walked over and took the seat beside you. “How was it? I made it myself, including the cookies.” She asked. So this is Amy, is what you thought. “Wonderful,” You answered her. She slightly swayed from side to side. “Oh good! I was worried about it.” She said. There was a slight moment of silence. “Right, I almost forgot,” She brought her hands up to cover her face for a moment. “I’m Amy Rose! A friend of Knuckles,” Amy said with a cheerful grin. You were correct. “I’m Y/N,” You told her, though she obviously already knows. “Nice to meet you!” Amy started to go on about some things but your brain couldn’t process it all at the moment. Pretending the follow along, you occasionally nodded and hummed a response.

“So…how are you doing? Felling any better?” She asked you. You thought about it for a moment. Your body still ached and hurt in some places, but overall, it was better than a few days ago. “Uh..better,” You responded to her. “That’s great!” That cheerful smile crossed her face again. “If you want, I can help you change some of your bandages, maybe even remove some!” Amy suggested. You felt flustered at that. You didn’t think about how or who changed you while you were out. Giving it more thought, you felt like you could trust her. “Sure..” You responded. “Okay, let’s see the arms first!..”

~
With just a few minutes passing by, the two of you were finished. You were slightly surprised at how many bandages were removed, and how few were changed and put back on. “Yay, now you don’t look like a mummy anymore!” Amy joked. You chuckled. “Okay on the topic of your looks now, I’m sorry about that shirt. You just needed a change of clothes and it was an old one Knuckles had in his closet,” She rambled on about it. Just now was it that you took note of the oversized shirt you were wearing. Looking down, you examined it the best you could from sitting on the bed. You slightly blushed a little. Redirecting your thoughts, you wondered why she was sorry about it. “Why are you sorry?” You asked her. “Oh because that color is so awful! Like, just, no..” Amy responded. “I swear, out of the five of us, I am the only one who has a sense of fashion!” She threw her arms up in the air and plopped down onto the couch. She took one look at your expression and added; “That doesn’t include you; I bet you have a good sense of fashion,” She said it with a fast manner, not meaning to upset you.
Talk about awkward silence.

A few moments later she got up from off of the couch. “Well, I better get going and see how the others are.” Amy made her way to the door as she told you. “Glad to have met you!” She waved, opening the door and stepping out. You waved back and said goodbye. As soon as she was gone, you flopped backward onto the bed.
Without meaning to, you drifted off to sleep.
