Together

Summary:

Together.

That's what he told her.

Together.

They did things together. Not apart. Together. He couldn't leave her. He wouldn't leave her... Even if he died, he wouldn't leave her. At least if he died, he'd be with her.

Bellamy stared at the lab around them, holding his breath. She had to make it. She just had to. If she didn’t…

God, he didn’t know what he’d do if she didn’t.

“Bellamy,” said Monty, putting his hand on Bellamy’s shoulder. “We have to go.”

“We still have time… She’ll make it,” he whispered, “She has to.”

Monty squeezed his shoulder, before walking toward the ship with the others. Raven stayed nearby, watching him. Murphy and Emori gave him cautious looks as they walked past him. They were ready for him to explode.

“Come on,” whispered Bellamy under his breath, “Come on, Clarke… I know you can make it. Come on.”

Raven sighed softly, “Bellamy… We’re out of time. We have to go now, or… Or we won’t beat the wave. Even waiting this long is cutting it close…”

“She’s still alive. She’s still coming ,” his voice broke, “I know she is. I know Clarke.”

“She has night blood,” Raven reminded him, “She made it this long, Bellamy… Maybe she’ll survive the wave, but we won’t.”

He turned to face her, and he was sure she could see the pain in his eyes. “Bellamy, I’m sorry… But we can’t wait any longer. If we want to make it out alive, we need to go. Now.”

He clenched his jaw and closed his eyes, resisting the urge to shout at her, to beg for more time. Instead, he nodded his head and sighed, “Fine.”

Raven sighed in relief and made her way to the ship, climbing inside with the others. Bellamy reached the door and hesitated, looking over his shoulder one more time.

“You want forgiveness? Fine. I’ll give it to you. You’re forgiven.”

“Together.”

“Please, come inside.”

“You left me.”

“If my name is on that list, then so is yours.”

“Together.”

“What?” Raven asked, looking up at Bellamy as he took a step back. She shook her head and looked to the others, but they didn’t speak up, “Bellamy, the radiation will kill you! You can’t!”

“Go!” He said, “I can’t leave her.”

“It’ll kill you! Monty, tell him!” Raven shouted, but Monty just gave Bellamy a sad smile and nodded, “Bellamy, stop! You’ll die!”

“At least then I’ll be with Clarke.”

Monty, on cue, pulled Raven back into her seat. She screamed and kicked, but he strapped her in as Murphy closed the shuttle door. They shared one last look through the tempered glass before he disappeared.

Bellamy retreated from the rocket, far enough that the force of take-off wouldn’t affect him, and he watched as it rose from the floor and disappeared. The doors closed with a hiss, and Bellamy turned his back and climbed the stairs. The lab would give him time. Not much, but it would give him time. Maybe even enough time to see if she survived.

Maybe if she did, she could find an extra bone marrow sample. Maybe she could save him…

He didn’t have high hopes.

The radiation was making it hard to breathe. His throat and lungs constricted from the boils, but he stayed in his spot, and sat against the wall, waiting. Begging. Praying.

Like an angel descending from the heavens to answer his prayers, Clarke appeared. A faint smile spread on Bellamy’s face as she met his eyes. She gasped, struggling toward him, “Bellamy! What are-” she coughed, “What are you doing here?”

“I couldn’t leave you,” he rasped, “I can’t… I can’t live without you…”

She sobbed, and he could see the tears rolling down her face through the shield in her suit. She took off her helmet, before standing. Every step she took was agony. He could hear it in the way she gasped and cried. Every breath was like fire for the both of them.

“Got it!” She gasped, falling over as she turned back around. There was a needle in her hand, and she crawled back toward him. “I’m not… I’m not losing you today,” she said, shaking her head. She took off his helmet and he gasped, wincing in pain. She started to pull the suit away, unzipping it in the back until she revealed his arm. “This might… Hurt…”

Clarke looked up at Bellamy, but his eyes had fallen closed. “No. No, no, no! No, you’re not dying on me!”

She felt for a vein, and once she was satisfied, she pressed the needle into his skin and pushed the plunger down. Bellamy grunted in pain for a moment but remained otherwise unresponsive. The tears streaming down Clarke’s face were causing the sores and blisters on her skin to burn, but she pushed them aside. It was nothing compared to the ache in her chest. She cupped Bellamy’s face and sobbed, “Please! Please, Bellamy-”

She pressed her forehead against his, her breaths growing weak as the computers and monitors began to blare alarms all around them. The wave was about to hit, or it was hitting. She didn’t know, and she didn’t care. All she cared about was the fact that she was losing him.

Her vision grew dark, and her body weak. She slumped forward, fingers feeling desperately for a pulse. She felt it. It was faint, a light flutter against her fingertips, but it was getting stronger. She sobbed in relief, sagging against him and slowly losing consciousness.

When Clarke woke up, she was being cradled against someone’s chest. She lifted her head and looked up at Bellamy to see his tear-streaked face looking down at her.

“Bellamy?” She whispered, reaching up to touch his cheek with her hand. His skin was smooth, soft, and unblemished. It was almost as if he’d never been covered in blisters and sores from the radiation. She sat up a little, cupping his cheek and smiling at him. “You’re okay.”

“Thanks to you,” he whispered, stroking her cheek, “I love you, Clarke. I love you so much.”

“I love you, too, Bellamy…” Her voice cracked, and she sat up completely, resting her forehead against his. With another soft exhale, Bellamy pressed his lips against hers in a soft, timid kiss.

They still had so much to do, so many problems to fix, but for now, wrapped up in each other’s arms, they were together. They were happy. And for now, that’s all that mattered.
