Bucky felt more than butterflies in his stomach while standing there at the front of the chapel. He felt like he could throw up. Was he really going to do this?
“Hey, jerk,” Steve nudged Bucky as he whispered. “Don’t be so nervous. You look constipated, and that’s not a face you want Sharon to see on your wedding day, right?”
“I just wish I knew one hundred percent I was doing the right thing,” Bucky whispered back, looking at Steve. Thank goodness for Steve being at his side no matter what. Even after realizing that he had romantic feelings that would never be returned for his best and oldest friend, Bucky knew he could trust Steve with his life.
“Do you love Sharon?” Steve asked. “Or is there someone else that you might be thinking of in terms of marriage?”
The image of a bandaged nose and slight smirk topped by a mop of blonde hair came right to the forefront of Bucky’s mind. In his mind’s eye, Bucky could see Clint playing with Lucky, Clint feeding Alpine treats when he thought Bucky couldn’t see, and Clint shooting his ridiculously purple bow at targets that most people wouldn’t even attempt. Bucky shook his head to clear it.
“I love Sharon,” Bucky answered firmly. He did, really. But Bucky wasn’t sure at the moment if his love was strong enough to actually marry her or if it was more of a platonic love. Was that enough to marry a person?
Steve raised his eyebrow. “If you say so. Just saying, I don’t think anyone in our friend group will judge you if you want to call it off. Even if we’re all dressed up and ready for cake.”
“Not all of you are dressed up and ready for cake,” Bucky muttered under his breath. He’d noticed a certain archer was absent, and it made his heart ache in a way that he didn’t want to fully explore at the moment.
If Steve heard, he kept his thoughts to himself. It didn’t hurt that the music started playing right then, with the little flower girls walking primly down the aisle, followed by Peggy and Natasha carrying their bouquets. Sharon soon followed, looking beautifully put together and quite the perfect bride. Bucky had a sudden longing to be anywhere but where he was standing, watching Sharon come down the aisle and the doors to the chapel close. Maybe wherever Clint was? At least he’d probably be hidden somewhere. But Bucky quickly tamped down his impending sense of doom, smiling at Sharon as she got closer.
“You look beautiful,” Bucky told Sharon as he took her hand. She smiled brightly at him, looking quite the opposite of how Bucky felt.
“You’re not too bad yourself, handsome,” Sharon joked as they stepped closer to the officiant.
Before anyone could say anything else, the doors banged open and there was Clint, dressed in a purple suit only he could’ve worn. Bucky grinned, not feeling such a sense of doom any more. At least, not until Clint opened his mouth.
“I object!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Clint felt absolutely ridiculous after he said those words. He hated suits, and he hated weddings. Why was he doing this again? Oh yeah. He was in love with Bucky.
The room was absolutely silent for a minute. Clint could only focus on Bucky, who was staring at him with confusion. At least it wasn’t anger or disappointment.
Then Steve started chuckling. “Ya got the timing a bit off there, Hawk. It hasn’t even started yet!”
“Should’ve had a rehearsal like I suggested!” Tony called out from the front of the crowd. Clint didn’t find Tony as amusing as some of the other Avengers did at that moment.
Bucky still looked as confused as ever. He looked around to the others, not looking at Clint, who was waiting impatiently. Clint started walking towards the front, feeling anxious about what he was about to do. But he made it only halfway up the aisle before Sharon whispered something to Bucky, causing him to take a deep breath. Clint stopped, waiting to see what would happen. When Bucky looked at Clint, the archer knew what was about to happen.
Determined, Bucky strode down the aisle until he met up with Clint. Grabbing Clint’s collar, Bucky pulled him close and kissed him. Clint could only take hold of Bucky’s waist and hold on tight. When Bucky pulled back, both of them were breathing hard.
“I love you,” they both said at the same time, making everyone else chuckle. Clint had a dopey smile on his face, while Bucky only smirked.
“I’ve been holding it back for so long, Sharon had to talk some sense into me,” Bucky chuckled. “On our own wedding day, no less. She told me that if I didn’t leave her for you, she’d object to the wedding herself.”
Clint barked a laugh. “I think everyone knew how much I love you, Bucky, except you. I’m glad at least someone could get you to admit your feelings, even if it took such extreme measures to do so!”
Bucky grinned, quickly looking around at everyone else smiling. “Wanna get outta here so they can enjoy some cake?”
“Only if we get some pizza and out of these monkey suits,” Clint replied, taking Bucky’s hand and pulling on it. Bucky laughed as he followed Clint out of the chapel, ready to be with Clint as he would ever be.
