Work Text:

Loud coughs tore through Sam’s throat, echoing throughout the living room. Raiden handed Monsoon a wet rag, and he swapped it out with the warm one on Sam’s forehead. For the last three days, they had been restlessly tending to Sam’s illness. It was no struggle for Monsoon to keep watch over him; although his mind was plagued with worry. However, Raiden was less accustomed to staying up for so long, and exhaustion showed on his face.

“I hate feeling so weak. I wish you guys didn’t have to-” Sam burst into a coughing fit and looked over at his husband. Raiden appeared just as tired as Sam felt. They gave him a shaky smile and leaned over Monsoon to kiss Sam's head.

"It's okay, love. We both just wanna see you feel better." One of Monsoon’s hands was laid on Sam’s chest, gauging his jagged breathing and his temperature.

<< There's no need, Sam. You'll only feel worse if you don't rest. It's no extra burden to take care of you, but you need to try and sleep. >>

Sam drowsily nodded, taking Monsoon’s forearm and lying on his side. He was still burning up but the coughing had subsided as his eyes shut. Monsoon turned to look at Raiden, wearing a calm expression.

<< That goes for you too. You’ve been up for far too long, I can tell. Rai, you can’t help Sam if you end up sick as well. Let me watch over you. >>

“Hmm… one condition.” Raiden quickly left to grab more water and medicine for Sam. Monsoon leaned back in a chair he pulled up beside their couch. He hadn't taken care of anyone sick before, but he didn't want his friend to overexert their body. He could always wake Raiden if anything went wrong. They had come back and set down everything they were carrying: ibuprofen, cold rags, water, and a thermometer. “Are you sure you’re able to take care of him alone?”

<< Yes. What must be done to get you to sleep? >>

Raiden hummed melodically and sat down on Monsoon’s lap, curling up against his chest and wrapping an arm over his shoulder. “Don’t do anything. Just let me stay here.” Shock spread on Monsoon’s face before he smiled and a slight magnetic buzz kept Raiden close.

<< I can’t understand how you find this comfortable, but… ah, you’re already asleep. >>

Monsoon slid the fingers of his available hand into Raiden's soft hair. He kept close watch of Sam, but he wasn't going to neglect the body connected to him. Monsoon lowered his hand from Raiden's shoulder and grabbed the pill bottle, unscrewing it and slipping two pills out. Sam would need to wake up in an hour and Monsoon wanted to make preparations- that way, Sam wouldn't have to stay awake for long.

Another fit of coughing broke the silence nearly 45 minutes later. Monsoon helped Sam sit up while taking his arm back from Sam's chest. He then grabbed the water and pills and carefully thrust them into Sam's hands. Monsoon waited for him to take the meds before switching out rags again and taking the water back from Sam's outstretched hand.

<< You're going to be alright. I'll be here for you, whatever you need. >>
