Wheein woke up feeling a soft and warm hand caressing her tummy. She could also feel a ray of sunshine hitting her face, was it noon already? She regretted not closing the curtain correctly because now she had to endure the brightness of the light existing behind her eyelids. Maybe if she doesn’t open her eyes yet and just turn her face to the right the sun won’t bother her anymore and she could sleep a little bit longer. The fluttering fingers drawing small figures on her skin didn’t help too, making Wheein feel even more relaxed on her bed.
A breathy chuckle and a kiss on her temple interrupted her intentions. She whined and turned around, who dares to interrupt her rest when Morpheus was welcoming her into his embrace? All she wanted was to sleep five more minutes... Or five more hours. Instead, all she received was another chuckle.
– Wheein-ah, did I wake you up? – said a soft and deep voice. Wheein just mumbled what sounded like incoherent gibberish and turned around again, facing the direction the familiar voice was coming from. Can you believe they had the audacity to chuckle again? – Sorry, you looked cute and couldn’t help myself.
The hands that once were on her belly moved to her hip, restarting the nonsensical patterns once again. Wheein couldn’t be mad at though, not really. She loves waking up like this, embraced by slim but strong arms, feeling loved and warm.
– Unnie, it tickles. – Wheein said with a sleepy voice. She opens just one eye just to look at the soft smile her girlfriend was giving her.
– Sorry, baby. Want me to stop? – Byul was a caring partner, always making sure she was comfortable with physical contact. It was well known that the older woman loved hugging, holding hands and overall touching people. She didn’t shy away when Hyejin hugged her from behind, or when Yongsun and her started one of their classic “fights”. But Wheein was more reserved than them, not always in the mood for skin-to-skin contact.
And Byul understood this and respected her when she needed her space. That was one of the things that loved the most about her. But right now, she wanted all the affection her girlfriend was giving to her.
– No, don’t stop. – Wheein said, scooting closer and melting into Byul’s chest. – Just don’t tickle me. – The older woman laughed and turned them around, so Wheein was lying on top of her. Both her hands found the hem of her shirt and went under it, caressing the expand of the shorter girl’s back.
– Is this better? – Byul asked and Wheein could only nod, feeling more and more relaxed with every movement the other woman hands made. She could stay here forever, without stressing about the schedules she has to attend to or worrying about Byul and her hectic life as a soloist, radio DJ, football player, YouTube owner and a long list of etcetera’s that made her forget to eat and sleep well from time to time.
Wheein couldn’t reprimand her though, she knew what it was to wake up before the sun and go to sleep well into early morning. Life as an idol was amazing; meeting new people, feeling the love and enthusiasm of their fans was everything she could ask for. But it also came with a high price to pay. Sometimes that was entire days running only on coffee or a quick snack, sleeping only 15 minutes before a presentation, not been able to have a minute of privacy in life… Yeah, a lot of things sucked, but she wouldn’t change it for the world. Not when this lifestyle gave her the most beautiful and loving person she could’ve found.
– What are you thinking about? – Byul’s question brought her back to the present. Wheein snuggled closer, hiding under her chin and the other woman stopped her caresses, just holding her against her chest. The beating of her heart soothed Wheein like no other song could. To be able to hear the muscle pumping blood to her veins, keeping her alive so she could see the incredible human being Moon Byul Yi was.
That’s why every night, before going to sleep, Wheein liked to thank every god she could think of and every star in the immense, infinite and vast universe that she was able to witness everything about Byul; the absolute joy she spread while laughing; the way her eyes sparkled proudly when she talked about Studio Moon Night; her tears and frustrations when one of her songs was rejected for being “too risky, too much for the public”; the shy smile her lips formed when Wheein kissed her out of nowhere; the redness of her cheeks and neck when the two of them laid in bed after exploring and worshipping each other bodies. Wheein was completely and utterly in love with Byul and there was no point in denying this truth.
– I was thinking about you. – This caught the older woman’s attention and she repositioned herself in bed so she could watch Wheein.
– What about me? – The shorter woman could hear the smile in her voice but refused to return her gaze, suddenly feeling embarrassed about her thoughts.
– About how greasy you are.
Byul’s laugh filled the room, and Wheein hid further on her chest. A kiss landed on top of her head.
– Indeed, I am, love.
The older woman resumed her previous position and started stroking Wheein’s back once again. They stayed like that for minutes, in silence, just enjoying each other’s company and warmth. From time to time Byul dropped sweet kisses on the younger’s head, receiving soft hums in return.
– I love you, you know? – Wheein said in the smallest voice possible, as if she didn’t really want Byul to know her not-so-secret secret. The hands on her back stopped their administrations and the older woman moved to a sitting position on the bed, bringing Wheein up with her. She took Wheein’s face between her hands and looked directly into her eyes.
– Jung Wheein, every time you say those words, I feel like I can breathe easily. Like I’m doing something right in life because, how could I be worthy of your love? Worthy of you? When you’re this amazing and beautiful person and I’m just... me. – Byul sighed, a small smile adorning her face.
Wheein wanted to protest, tell her that she was incredible too, but before she could say anything the other woman spoke again.
– And I know I’m good too, don’t get me wrong… Stop frowning! – She chuckled while tapping Wheein’s forehead. – I know I have my charms and looks, I know I can be a good person too. But Wheein-ah, I want you to know this, your love is what makes me want to be a good person, a better person. I want to honor your love and everything you do for me. And sometimes I feel like all I can give you is my affection and I don’t know if that’s enough. But one day, I promise you, I’ll be able to repay all the happiness you’ve been giving me.
Byul took a final look to the younger girl before kissing her softly and slowly, taking her time to pour the storm of emotions she was feeling. Wheein could only hold tightly onto her, wishing she could be able to keep her girlfriend safe inside her, closer to her heart, where no one could ever make her feel like she was lacking something, like she had to work harder to meet an invisible and absurd goal. She loved the taller woman for who she was and that wouldn’t change any time soon.
– Ah, unnie, you’re making me cry. Why are you like this? – Wheein said taking a breath from their kiss. A couple of tears ran free from her eyes and Byul dried them with her thumbs, kissing then her now moist cheeks.
– Sorry, baby, I didn’t mean to. – The older said with a smile on her face, not feeling sorry at all. – But all of that was true, I love you and I want to be my best version for you.
– That sounded awfully like a marriage proposal. – said Wheein, who was still drying some of her tears. – Please, don’t propose to me while we’re still in our pajamas and have morning breath.
Byul’s laugh echoed through the entire room, making the shorter girl smile fondly at her. She was glad she could break some of the tension her tears had caused. Her girlfriend’s speech was so beautiful and moving that Wheein couldn’t help but cry a bit, but she didn’t want to ruin the moment she had created.
– Would it be so bad if I proposed right now? – asked Byul, her face still filled with joy.
– No, I guess it wouldn’t be. – sighed Wheein who was now mirroring her girlfriend’s smile. She brought the older woman closer and hugged her again, snuggling against her neck once more. They stayed like this for a couple of minutes, feeling each other and leaving all of their worries for another moment. This morning was theirs and nothing could ruin it. That is until Byul’s stomach decided to growl angrily between the two women. Both of them laughed and broke away from each other, looking into each other’s eyes.
– I guess marriage can wait until we eat breakfast, what do you think? – asked Byul, smiling so hard her eyes became two crescent moons. Wheein was enamored by the sight and could only nod at her. She took her girlfriend’s hand and guided them outside their bedroom, thinking about the actual possibility of becoming Byul’s wife and having a family with her.
Who knew what the future would hold for them? It was was a mystery and uncertain. But the only thing Wheein was sure of, was that she loved Moon Byul Yi and that she loved her back. Everything else could wait after breakfast.
