It was a warm summer evening to warm for Mika's taste, he had taken a break of helping his grandparents pack out all the boxes.
He took a long breath as he sat down on the porch there seamed no end to all the boxes he had never thought moving would be this exhausting he flopped onto the floor having his arm cover his eyes, the heat was unbearable "is this what yuu went through?" Mika muttered to himself.
His grandma stood infront of the boy with a plate in her hands "guess what grandpa bought mika dear" Mika just groaned in disinterested, she placed the plate next to him in a gentle fashion
Mika sprang up by the sight of it sweet, cold, refreshing watermelon slices it was cut into perfect triangular pieces and the watermelon was young enough to not have annoying seeds in the way
"See I knew you would like it!" Grandma said in amusement as she sat down next to him mika not responding being to busy with devouring the watermelon "I know it was hard on you ever since your parents died"
Mika started to listen as his expression changed into a more sad look like a child that had lost its stuffed animal "but I think this change of scenery will lift you up away from that old house" she said standing up and brushing away the debris of her long skirt "and maybe you'll get a big surprise next week at your new school"
Mika tumbled over those last words "a big a big surprise?" He thought to himself that thought was disturbed by the sun overtaking the nice shadow that was cast by the porch roof Mika quickly retreated into the house again.
Porphyria cutanea tarda:
a type of blood disorder that affects the skin
Symptoms include:
•blisters on skin that develop when exposed to the sun
•thin or fragile skin
•crusting or scaring of the skin
•redness,swelling or itching of the skin
•liver damage
Due to this disorder mikas skin has been pale ever since birth he had a hard time making friends as it was difficult to go out to play with the other kids
And when he went outside he was called names such as monster, vampire, blood sucker and a bunch of other things that mika would rather forget until he met Amane Yūichirō he was like a ray of sunshine that he was able to actually touch the only friend of Mika's
Their friendship started on a sunny day mika was playing in the shadows alone as per usual when a few of the usual bully's were calling him names again he learned it's best to ignore them so that he did
But it went a step further they grabbed him and dragged him into the sun ,what was the reason behind that? Still to this day he can't put together a coherent answer, slowly burns started to appear as he was crying for help
suddenly the pressure of being held disappeared as mika opened his eyes he saw a black haired kid pushing the bully's screaming at them
Mika quickly fled into the shadows once again the burns on his arms and face felt like thousands of needles picking into his skin he quietly cried not Dearing to call for his parent's help as it would only worsen the situation
A few minutes have passed as mika heard footsteps approaching he was ready for the worst but the black haired child stepped around the corner smiling
Mika wiped the tears of his awestruck face he tried to muter a word something, anything but nothing came out
The black haired child approached slowly until he was close to mika "I really showed them who's the boss around here you don't need to worry about them again!"
Mika watched him with big eyes, yuu sat down next to him silence for a couple of minutes until mika finally spoke up "your totally beat up tho." He said monotone with no remorse
Yuu was thunderstruck mika said his first words to him and it was this! He tried to play it of "yeah well duh I had to let them get a few hits in it wouldn't be a fair fight then!"
Mika burst out laughing as yuu watched him in amazement he had seen mika a few times at the playground but always with a sad demeanor never had he seen him laughing and he didn't know it could be that beautiful to see him laughing
Yuu sighed in awe "im Amane Yūichirō but I'd rather if you'd call me yuu!" Mika stopped laughing as he saw yuu reaching his hand out he hesitated but gave in in the end "im Shindō Mikaela!" Their friendship flourished over the years almost like their encounter was ment to be
One day yuu moved away without saying another word, since then mika has been alone again with an empty feeling following him.
It was getting dark out the only thing mika wanted to do now is sleep, instinctively he grabbed his phone of his new assembled desk before flopping onto the bed
He opened(insert any social media app here) just scrolling through his feed. A notification pops up [yuu_ Posted a picture!] Of course mika was following yuu he had no desire to let go of his dear friend if he could still even call him that
His account was under a fake name naturally he didn't want to let yuu know he still hadn't moved on so he was lurking from the shadows as he would always do
Mika also didn't want to reach out to him what if yuu had a better life without him in it what if he had better friends?
Well he couldn't tell anyway because most of yuu's post consisted of bad photographs of stray cats a picture or two of nature and just a whole lot of unidentifiable photographs
Yuu dosen't have many followers just mika and a few other people mika didn't bother looking into. yuu's post didn't give much insight on how yuu's current life is and mika liked that in his mind he liked the memory of it only being them two
With the phone in his hands and looking back on his dearest holded memory's with yuu mika slowly drifted into sleep.
The week flew by having the house fully furnished and all the boxes unpacked took quite a while so the last days he had of before school mika just wanted to do nothing
Well he couldn't really do anything because the sun has been hitting hard this week so going out wasn't an option
Only thing he could do was play video games, sit on the porch watching various wild life come and go and baking which he wasn't good at but his grandma still hasn't given up on him
Mika was sitting at the dinner table, cold soba his favorite not only because it's refreshing on a warm day like this but it also reminded him of all the times yuu's mom made it for them when he was at yuu's house
"So tomorrow you need to go to school eh?" His grandpa asked while looking at him, mika just sighed "aw honey cut him some slack you know how hard it's been on him" Mika didn't respond maybe he just wasn't bothered too
He never had the best relationship ship with his grandpa for some reason he has always been hard on mika so he just didn't care to put up with it "excuse myself" he said while taking his empty plate to the sink and going upstairs to his room
"You spoil him to much he's never going to get over that boy because of you" Mika heard while going up the stairs "maybe i just don't want to get over yuu." he thought to himself in an arrogant demeanor, well never mind that if he wanted to go freshly into the new school he had to go sleep now
6:20am mika's alarm was going off actually he didn't need, it he's been awake for quite some time now it's hard sleeping with such weather
Somehow it's the first time mika really looked at the school uniform.. "it's ok" he said while tossing it to the side
6:35am mika was ready to head out he had his backpack packed his uniform was perfect to the seam and he still had 25 minutes left If he got lost on the way to school everything perfectly planned
The walk to the school wasn't a problem for mika so he had with many minutes to spare arrived at the gate with seemingly hundreds of students pouring into the school it was a big one after all
Mika had a bit of trouble finding the teachers office he had a bit of time left so he didn't really need to worry about that
A purple haird girl got his attention might as well ask now better than coming late on his first day "excuse me." He said in a way that could come of as passive aggressive, she turned around returning the same energy "yeah?" Mika took a smal breath "where is the teachers office"
the tension got lighter when the girl realized he was genuinely just lost "oh um second floor down the right corridor" he left without saying another word
Mika was so deep in thought he didn't even realize he didn't thank the girl but he was sure he's seen her before, but it couldn't be physically he hadn't been out since he moved to the city so there's no way he saw her like that
But one thing was for certain he didn't have a good feeling about her like an dreadful feeling slowly building up inside of him
Finally the teachers office and he still was on time mika knocked on the already open door "excuse me Mr.Ichinose is supposed to take me to his class" a tall man walked in mika's direction
"Oh so your the new exchange student just follow me" as they were walking the man spoke again "by the way you can just call me guren no need for that formal stuff kid"
Mika stayed quiet they arrived infront of a classroom the class immediately sat down when they saw Guren walk in "listen class we got a new exchange student his name is.."
guren looked at mika realizing he still hadn't asked for a name the whole time "Shindō Mikaela" guren got his serious teacher attitude back "..Mika so treat him nicely." Mika looked around the classroom only 2 seats weren't taken both were at the window side
"oh its that rude boy who didn't even say thank you after me showing him the way" a cocky voice spoke up, it was the purple haird girl
Mika remained calm and didn't respond "hey what did I say just now shinoa!" Guren said in a rather angry tone he turned to mika "come on sit down"
Mika sighed and came closer to the teachers ear and whispered something "urgh for real? ok change of plan yoichi your going to sit where the newbie was going to sit"
A brown haired boy stood up "ok guren" he said in a cheerful voice maybe the window seat wasn't so bad? Mika finally sat down the lesson had already been going for around 20 minutes
When suddenly the burst open "ah sorry guren for coming in late again" Mika jolted up he knew that voice, the person walked inside the classroom
It was truly him "yuu..?" Mika quietly said not being able to say it any louder just like that time when they first met
"Yeah yeah go sit down you missed the new students introduction" yuu turned to the class "sure I bet it wasn't all that-" Their eyes met, for the first time since yuu left mika felt that warmth inside him again.
