Work Text:
Time Square
7:00 AM
“Fucking hell!” Imani grumbled as she tied her long blonde hair up, keeping her hair out of the way. It’s getting a little bit annoying to fight a supervillain in the middle of a hurricane.
At 7am in the morning too, the time that supposedly were usually reserved for the early birds, the students rushing to morning classes, the retail workers that have morning shifts and her twin brother the workaholic who might’ve never left his office.
And even if she was one of the people in the groups said above, fighting Forecast in the middle of Time Square as the man in a brightly coloured spandex suit flew around in the hurricane he created was not on her to-do list.
Imani’s to-do list usually consisted of her morning run, run down to that cafe with that very chatty barista, get a cappucino, go back home and get ready for her day job.
Today was not her day.
She dodged another punch from Forecast, returning it back, missing as Forecast was fast to fly away.
“I knew you had something wrong in the head, Forecast.” She said, jumping on top of the Subway’s building, using her fan to push away Forecast’s attack.
“But this is twisted, even for you!” Forecast snickered.
“What can I say, Ms. Miracle? Sometimes inspiration strikes early.” He said, flying towards the Subway building Imani was on.
Imani steadied her footing, her hands holding her fan, prepared to take on whatever Forecast throws at her.
Gushes of wind was punched towards her, but she blocked it easily with her fan, before kicking the man in bright suit. Forecast dodged, throwing another air punch, despite the attack seeming harmless, it can actually be quite fatal.
Imani managed to enlarge her fan and reflected Forecast’s attacks, pushing him away.
Forecast landed on the other side of the building, snickering in a classic villain sense. Imani grunted in frustration. Why couldn’t she have gotten a nice nemesis, the one that lets her off because he have fallen in love with her for awhile?
But no, she had to have gotten landed with Forecast, the amalgamation of chaos and destruction himself.
Life isn’t fair, a voice mocked in her head that sounded suspiciously like Luqman.
She mentally yelled shut up.
“You need a new hobby, Walmart Mary Poppins.” Forecast put his hand on his chest, looking offended at the statement.
“At least I didn’t copy Wonder Woman, unlike someone.” He said, twirling his parousel around as he used more of his winds attacks. Imani dodged, using her fans to block them, muttering a curse under her breath.
“But, enough chit-chat! Let’s see weather or not, you can’t keep up!” He exclaimed as he used his parousel to generate ice around him. The roof of the building quickly freezed, becoming a somewhat hand-made skating rink.
Imani did not waste time as she tapped her heels twice, her heels turning into ice skates. This was not her first day on the job, she was accustomed to Forecast’s ‘ice rink’ attack.
She’s definitely going to be late to her office.

7:40 AM
Haikal was running late. It’s not to say that he was usually early, but it’s almost 8 am, and the bus he was supposed to take was apparently delayed in traffic due to extreme change of weather.
Man, life is great.
He clutched his backpack, running down the street, praying so that he could at least be in time for the meeting he’s having today. That meeting was his key for the promotion, if he’s late, he might as well lost his job.
And it’s not like you can’t exactly walk up to your boss and say you’re late because of a villain attack.
Considering the fact that they live in New York City, that might as well be a legible explanation.
Haikal put his hand on the door handle, catching himself for a minute. Looking down at the door handle, he took a deep breath.
This is it, he can do it.
He chanted in his mind as he walked inside the office.
“Morning, Haikal.” Sarah, the recipient at the front door greeted him. Haikal nodded in response, quickly walking into the office. The usual routine of asking about her weekend was out of the question today.
“Haikal. The boss is looking for you.” A voice called to him. He turned towards the person talking to him.
Kris, his coworker, called from his desk, motioning towards the manager’s office. Haikal looked at the door and back at Kris, thanking him before walking toward the door. He took a deep breath and knocked on the door.
This is the day, you take that job and that sweet, sweet promotion will be rolling your way.
“Come in.” A voice called from inside. He walked into the room to find his boss, Cecilia and a taller male stood in front of her,the man’s brown hair combed to the side, not a crease showing, on his white dress shirt. He stood firmly and proud as his hand showing something in his files to Cecilia, possibly about a project.
Haikal cleared his throat, announcing his presence in the room.
“Ms. Cecilia, you called for me?”
“Ah, Haikal! Have you met Hakimi?” She said, gesturing to Hakimi, the man in front of her. A 'polite' smile formed on the man’s face.
Haikal would’ve smiled back if he didn’t know Hakimi.
If he didn’t know how completely ruthless and cruel the man in front of him was.
If he couldn't see the smugness hidden underneath the polite exterior.
Ok, maybe that’s a bit dramatic but you have to understand, the last time Haikal worked with the man, it didn’t exactly ended on a good note. The two of them argued a lot, considering Hakimi’s ‘I’m better than everyone’ aura and Haikal’s ‘I’ll brute force my own way in whether you like it or not’ personality isn’t exactly the healthiest combinations.
And Hakimi talking to Cecilia must only mean one thing.
They’re teaming up again. Great.
“Yes, ma’am.” Haikal said, looking at Hakimi. Hakimi’s lazy brown eyes into his. Haikal turned to Cecilia opening his mouth to declare.
“We keep meeting.” They said in unison. Haikal turned to him again, but Hakimi only looked at Cecilia this time. Haikal tried his best to not roll his eyes in front of his department manager.
“Hakimi will be joining you in the meeting today. He’s worked on this kind of project before so I thought he could be able to guide you considering I’ll be a bit too busy with other projects.” Cecilia informed, looking at the two of them.
Haikal turned towards him, yet Hakimi paid no mind. He turned towards Cecilia again.
There is no way he's letting Hakimi in his project again.
“I think I’ll be fine on my own, actually. I’m sure Mr. Hakimi have more important things to tend to…”
“Oh no, I actually volunteered to help you. I’ve been interested in your project for a while. Thought I’d see what you’re working on.” Hakimi turned to Haikal, his eyes narrowed, an eyebrow raised, a smirk forming on his face.
“The Hakimi doing volunteer work on my project? I wonder what have I done to deserve such honor?” Haikal said, crossing his arm as he turned towards Hakimi.
“I would say that your work actually need a little bit more tweaking, hence why I’m here, Haikal.”
"Oh, you think so, huh?”
“Alright you two, save the energy for the next few months of your project. It’s going to be the biggest project this department ever have and I want it perfect.” Cecilia cut into the two men’s ‘discussion’, before telling them to go out of her office and get to the meeting.
As they stood outside of Cecilia’s room, Haikal turned towards Hakimi. Hakimi only looked down at his phone, checking through something.
“So, should we get going?” He asked, awkwardly to the other man.
“Let’s keep this professional, shall we?” Hakimi replied, not even bothering to look at Haikal, as he began to walk towards the designated meeting room.
“Keep this professional? Big talk for someone like you. I believe we should recall the fact the you were the one that started it!” Haikal said, as he catches up to Hakimi, trying to get in front of the other man.
“I’ve never started anything, Haikal. If you want to recall anything, it was you that made the project go downhill.” The man said, his voice cold and uninterested.
“Me? Are you seriously doing this right now?”
“Are you?”
They stopped in front of the meeting room. Hakimi finally turned to look at Haikal. Haikal tried to say something. Yet, he can't seem to find the right words for the emotions he's feeling.
“Just don’t say anything.” Haikal finally said, opening the door into the room.
Hakimi only shrugged and nodded, not wanting to argue anymore as he followed Haikal into the room.

Sweet Pearl Cafe
8:30 AM
Luqman only smiled down onto the bombard of texts from Haikal and Imani about Aaron finally typing like normal young (ish) adults. He typed down something getting his order before putting his phone into his pockets.
“Welcome to Sweet Pearl Cafe, how may I help you?” a girl with black hair and brown eyes wearing the apron that every Sweet Pearl employee wear asked, as she rang up the counter, putting the money that the previous customer gave in return of the one-cup-of-sugar coffee she handed out earlier. He only smiled as he reside the orders he’s getting for his friends.
“Tea, a double-shot expresso, no milk, iced cold hazelnut latte and mocha, with milk.” He said, the words easily rolling out of his mouth. The barista in front of him seemed a bit stunned before snapping herself back into focus.
“Tea?”
“Yep.” He replied, casually. As if it is very casual to buy a cup of tea at a place that is a purple version of Starbucks.
“But we…” the barista, as the very neatly written name tag suggest, Tiana was a bit confused to the situation.
“Hey, Luqman! Good morning!” A voice called out, they both turned to find a brown-haired girl waving at the blonde.
Alisha Lin. The owner of the Official Super Watch twitter account. A magnet to superhero-supervillain fights.
“Good morning, Alisha.” Luqman nodded at her politely.
“I see you met our regular already, Tiya.”
“He asked for tea.” Tiana or Tiya said, turning to Alisha.
“Oh, I know. He’s weird. He’s the reason we have tea in the café.”
“Seriously?” Tiana looked at him, her eyes narrowed, eyebrow raised.
“Hey, don’t judge me. I’m not used to handling coffee so early in the morning.” Luqman said, ruffling his hand against his light blonde hair.
“You could literally just buy one from the teahouse next door.”
“That’s what I said!”
“Eh, all my other friends like coffee, so going to two shops is a waste of time.” Luqman shrugged, reaching for his wallet.
“But, still. Whatever. Here you go.” Complying to the customer’s order, Tiana hand Luqman his tea. She went to the back to get the coffees ready.
“Lavender?”
“With a hint of lemon.” Tiana said, not really looking at Luqman, though the corner of her eyes could see him sitting by one of the chair in front of the counter.
“For a coffee shop barista, you make pretty great tea.” She only shrugged at the statement. Alisha seemed to be giving a college student their possibly too strong cup of expresso.
“Here you go, a double-shot expresso, no milk, iced cold hazelnut latte and mocha, with milk.”
“Thanks, how much do I owe you?” Tiana told him the required amount, Luqman nodded before taking the amount of money needed from his wallet, handing it to the black-haired girl.
“Keep the change.”
“Thanks, enjoy your drinks.” She said, nodding politely as she put the money in the counter.
“Bringing breakfast to your friends?” Alisha asked, as she sits down in front of Luqman. It’s not exactly rush hour, so other than for the regulars, there’s really no one else there.
“Yep. Haikal’s complaining about how his client is running late to the meeting that was supposed to start at 8 am.” Luqman said, scrolling through his phone, reading the ongoing group chat.
“Extreme weather changes?” Alisha guessed, making a cup of latte for herself. Luqman only nodded and shrugged, sipping his tea.
“Tell me about it, Alisha literally ran full force towards the hurricane.” Tiana said, her eyes narrowing towards the brunette in question, eyebrow raised.
Luqman let out a small laugh at the statement.
“Hey, I must do my duties to the people!”
“Sounds like our Alisha.”
“I feel bad for Ms. Miracle having to deal with Forecast all the time.” Tiana said, her eyes on her phone, possibly scrolling through Twitter.
“I mean Forecast’s cool and all, but he really need to work on that time management skills.” The black-haired girl added.
“You think Forecast’s cool?” Luqman asked. A shade of red appeared on Tiana’s face.
“Not as a fan or anything! I just thought he has the best powers out of the other supervillains!” The girl practically shrieked, trying to explain herself.
Alisha couldn’t contain her laughter as much as she tried to, laughing out loud at her friend. Luqman only grinned, definitely amused with the situation.
“I knew you were crazy about Ms. Miracle and Archive, but Forecast?” Alisha laughed louder.
“I said I like his powers! Not him! He’s like the most annoying supervillain to ever exist!”
“I agree actually. Forecast is definitely the most annoying supervillain in this town.” Luqman said, taking another sip out of his tea.
“Though, Archive hasn’t been around for a while, right?”
“Yeah, apparently he stopped becoming a hero.” Alisha said, finally done with her laughing session.
“Rumor has it he was gravely injured. No one knows where he is now since the group refused to answer any questions.” The brown-haired girl said, showing an article about Archive's disappearance on her phone.
“Interesting.” Luqman said, making mental note in his head to check it out later.
“Which is a shame cause he was one of the most competent superhero on that team.” Tiana said, making herself a cup of coffee.
“Oh, really?” Luqman raised his eyebrow.
“In my opinion at least. Considering Ms. Miracle and Icarus are always the muscles while Solar keeps on going on and on about justice, Archive seemed to be the one behind the plans.” Tiana stated.
Keen eye, Luqman thought, impressed with the barista’s observation.
“Damn, even I didn’t think of that. You must’ve been watching him very closely.” Alisha said, not without teasing her friend again. Tiana hit the other girl with a cup.
“His costume was very attention-grabbing!”
“Just admit you’re an Archive stan, Tiya. I would still love you.”
“Shut up, Alisha!”
Luqman let out a laugh.
