Far From The Shallows
JJ turned around, only to freeze at seeing Kie laughing at one of John B’s lameass jokes, her face lit up from within. She had never looked more beautiful to him than in that moment with the sun at her back, almost illuminating her like a Madonna on a fresco, the wind blowing her dark curls wildly around her face.
Kie caught him staring, the sight abruptly cutting her laughter off. “What is it?” she frowned. “Is there a crab caught in my hair or something?”
JJ cleared his throat awkwardly as John B and Pope exchanged raised eyebrows and wtf looks. “I’m forgetting something,” he lied, rumpling up his blonde hair, trying to ignore the hot flush creeping up the back of his neck.
“Morals, probably?”
“No, it’s something important.”
Like how to get you the hell out of my head, Kie, JJ thought bitterly, glancing out across the water.
