Work Text:

The wind blew, causing the fragile grass to flow in waves. The crickets played their midnight symphony for the firelights dancing in the moonlight. Their light cast a green hue on the couple basking in their presence from below. “So, would you care to explain why we are out in this field in the middle of the night?” Ekko asked while sitting and looking up at the night sky.

Jinx was standing, her hands clasped behind her back as she stared at the living green stars above her. “You didn't complain when I first said that all of our dates would be like this, so why are you complaining now?” She responded matter-of-factly, still mesmerized by the firelights.

Ekko rolled his eyes, “I personally would consider our wedding as more than just a date.” Despite the grievances he was airing, Ekko had gotten used to her antics by now - especially since tonight would be the happiest night of his life.

He turned towards Jinx. Her slender silhouette stood tall against the dark sky - her pale skin illuminated by a mixture of the firelights and the heavenly white light from the moon and stars. Her untied blue hair was wild and free, gracefully flowing behind her like a river in the sky. The tattoo he made for her all those years ago peeked from behind her pastel pink dress, the ends flowing joyously around her ankles.

“You know that this isn’t what Vi had in mind when you told her about our marriage. She looked really excited to see you in a wedding gown” Ekko said as he moved a hand to play with her frills.

Jinx turned to face him, “Oh, don’t worry about her; she won’t do anything. And if she does, we’ll just run away together.” She stuck out her tongue, teasing the sister that wasn't there.

Her eyes warmly glowed like hibiscus flowers basking in the spring sun, overpowering the light of the moon behind her. There was something different about them. They weren’t filled with her usual mischief, but something more wholesome.

"What are you waiting for? Are you gonna get up and kiss me or what?” She asked.

Ekko laughed, rising up from the ground. "Just wanted to savor the moment.”

"How about you do that once you put that ring on my finger? "

Ekko laughed while Jinx gazed into his eyes with pure, unfiltered love. This side of her was new to him and was loving every bit of it. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small box, opened it, and revealed a pair of rings. Jinx’s name is carved on one and Ekko’s etched on the other. Ekko put the ring with her name on his finger, then grabbed her hand delicately and prepared to slide the other ring onto hers.

“Wait! Say the vows!" Jinx exclaimed hastily.

“Don’t worry, I didn’t forget.” He took one deep breath, and looked her in the eyes.

"Jinx, I love every moment I spend with you by my side. Every moment I feel your hand over mine, every time I hold you in my arms, and every morning where the first thing I see is your beautiful face. Everything I do, I swear I do it for you. I smile, laugh, and cry for you; if there is a god, they made me just for you. If I was given the option to relive every memory I have with you, I would have to decline. Because I would rather spend every waking moment of my future with you, making new memories."

Jinx's lovestruck demeanor changed when she heard his heartfelt words. She blushed a deep red and turned away, too embarrassed to look him directly in the eyes.

“Why do you have to be so good at this love stuff?” She asked quietly and punched him in the chest softly. Ekko smirked and tried his best to stifle a chuckle. "I'm sorry, you just have that effect on me."

Jinx looked up at him. Her face was more composed but her cheeks were still tinted pink. "I better hear that sweet talk till we're old and gray Ekko."

“Are those your vows?"

"You know I’m not so good with words, so just shut up and let me show you my vows, idiot."

She moved her hand and caressed Ekko's cheek, his skin embracing the warmth of her fingertips. He moved his hand over hers, gladly letting her take the lead. The howl of the night wind seemed to disappear as they were lost in their own world; Jinx leaned forward and placed her lips on his gingerly. The short action felt like an eternity, and both wouldn’t have it any other way.

“So, dear wife of mine, what are we gonna do first?”

“Hmm…" She pondered deeply, before looking back at him with the trademark devilish grin Ekko had known her for. "you wanna start running away together?”

Notes:

Don’t know if it’s obvious by now, but I have no idea what the actual sequence of events are at weddings but I wasn’t gonna let that stop me :) also fluff feels hard asf to write
