Work Text:

Castiel had been thinking for a while what he could as a team activity for himself, Dean, Bal and Sam to do, as a way for them to fully get to know each other and have some fun. God knows the two omegas deserve it. The idea came to him one evening when Dean and he had purchased a Nintendo Switch with the Switch Sports game. He had watched as Dean played bowling with a giant smile on his face. He hadn’t been the best when he played against him, Dean always winning but it made Dean happy. So Castiel decided to book an actual game for the four of them.

Now, Castiel himself wasn’t good at bowling in real life, Hannah had dragged him to a bowling alley when he was in college, and to say he didn’t get a high score was an understatement. But he’s willing to make a fool out of himself in bowling, as long as it makes Dean and Balthazar happy. He goes onto the website for the bowling alley called ‘Tenpin’ and he books a game for four the following day. Dean had been over the moon when he had informed him of their plans for the next day, immediately rushing to Sam’s room as his younger brother had gone to bed an hour ago.

“Sammy! Wake up-“ Dean opens the door, not bothering to knock, seeing the Alpha is still awake, just reading a book. “Oh, you’re awake.”

Sam looks at him startled; worry etched in his scent as he looks at Dean. Looking at his older brother, checking for any hint of damage that could have been done to his body, but Dean is smiling. Sam calms down realising that Dean smells excited and happy, and he looks as if he’s on cloud nine. “Dean, what’s up?”

“Cas booked for us to go bowling tomorrow! Me, you, Bal and Cas!” Dean tells him. “It’s going to be so amazing Sammy, the four of us all going out, spending some time together… I missed spending time with you, this’ll be amazing.” Dean looks sad, as he thinks about all the years he missed. He tries to push it to the back of his mind, not to dwell on it and dampen the day.

“That’s great Dean!” Sam smiles, tapping the bed and Dean walks towards him and sits next to him. He leans against Sam’s body, remembering the time it used to be him holding Sam. “When did you get so goddamn tall? Just couldn’t stop growing could you?” He teases. He always knew Sam would grow up to be a tall kid, had known when Sam was much taller at eight than he had been at the same age.

Sam just shrugs, holding his brother close and tight. As if he’s still scared after all this time that Dean will disappear into thin air, without a trace. Just as he did all those years ago. They stay like that for a while before Dean decides to head back to Cas, remembering he had to beat him at Badminton to keep his score up. (He had been keeping a mental scoreboard, and no, Cas didn’t know).

The next day arrives, and Dean is up, like an excited puppy as he makes breakfast. Castiel is sure that if Dean was to have a tail, it would have hit everything over by wagging so much. Sam walks in, hearing Dean humming happily, and he watches as he practically dances around the kitchen as he prepares their breakfast. They hear the door open.

Dean freezes but gets back to what he was doing as he hears Balthazar’s voice call out, “only me!” The older omega walks in, an amused look on his face as he watches Dean. “Well, isn’t someone a little excited?”

No one answers, Castiel just smiles as he keeps watching Dean. “Morning Bal. How are you?”

“I’m prepared to kick your arses at bowling this afternoon,” Balthazar says, looking at Castiel. “I haven’t ever played or been to a bowling alley before, but I just have this feeling that I will be better.”

“Don’t be so smug. I think you’ll find that I will be the better bowler,” Dean says, placing a plate in front of the three of them before joining them at the table. “I can play pool, so I think I’d be pretty decent.”

They bicker back and forth before they all have to leave, they pile into the Impala, Dean happy he’s able to drive and insisting they take Baby. He drives them to the bowling alley and pulls up in the car park next to it. They get out and Castiel enters first, informing them of his name and their shoe size. They’re given bowling shoes and Balthazar grimaces.

“God can you imagine how many people’s filthy feet have been in these things? I doubt they’ve been washed.” Balthazar complains as he slides his feet into them. “I’m glad I decided to wear socks today, I’d hate to catch verruca’s from these disgusting shoes.”

Dean looks at him. “You wouldn’t want to stay in ‘Motel Plaza’ in Kansas then if you’re worried about catching stuff.”

They give him a look and Sam cringes as he recognises the name. “Oh yuck, there was so many bugs in that place.”

“You refused to eat anything I gave you unless we went outside, Sammy,” Dean says laughing slightly at the memory of them both sat outside, rain hammering down on them. “Even in the rain.”

They pick up finish putting on their shoes and they go up to their lane. They see Castiel is up first, and Dean pecks his lips, whispering a good luck to him, despite the fact they’re supposed to be against each other. Castiel picks up a ball, practicing throwing for a bit before he finally does. Only, it goes in the air as he aims it in the wrong direction, the four of them watch in shock as it lands with a loud bang on the lane next to them, rolling down and hitting just one of the pins.

“You know Cassie, this is the lane you’re supposed to throw it down.” Balthazar chuckles teasingly. Castiel takes another ball, seeing as the board hadn’t counted the last throw as it was in a different lane. He doesn’t answer Bal, instead he walks up to the line placing it on the floor before rolling it down. They watch as it goes straight for halfway before going to the left and ending up in the gutter, the same happening on his next throw. “Oh, bloody hell Cassie, watch and learn.”

Balthazar’s name is highlighted, and he picks a ball, ending up picking up one of the heavy ones but he’s a strong omega, he can handle it. He walks up to the lane, widening his legs before leaning down. Sam lets out a laugh as he watches the older omega swing the ball between his legs. “That’s not how you throw the ball. You’re throwing it like a grandma would.” Sam teases, Bal turns over his shoulder to glare at him.

“Just you watch Samuel, I will prove that my way is more effective and efficient than gangly arms over there.” Balthazar nods towards Castiel, chuckling as Dean glares at him. Rubbing Castiel’s arm and telling him how he tried his best. Bal turns back to the alley, throwing the ball down and cheering as it hits all ten pins down. Turning back around and walking to the benches he gives Sam a smug smile. “And that my friend, is how its done.”

Sam doesn’t say anything, instead he picks up a ball. Wordlessly walking up to the lane and smoothly throwing the ball down the lane, hitting all ten pins and he goes back to the benches giving a smug look to Balthazar. “Well look at that, my way worked too, smoother in fact.”

Balthazar rolls his eyes watching as Dean gets up, wiping sweat off the palms of his hands. Balthazar gives him an encouraging smile and Dean smiles back at him, picking up a ball. Castiel watches him as he can see Dean’s nervous and hesitant, he keeps looking over his shoulder as he throws the ball which goes straight into the gutter on both of his attempts.

Dean walks back with a pout, sitting next to Castiel. Grateful that none of them are teasing him for it. Castiel smiles at him “You’ll get better Dean, just keep practicing.”

Dean nods, watching as Castiel gets up, managing to hit three over and another one. Balthazar goes again, throwing the same way as before and getting a strike again and Sam follows also with a strike. Dean gets another two gutter balls, and he sits down with a huff. They go in a circle again and Dean watches as Castiel throws the ball behind him and they dodge it. Cas gives them an apologetic smile before he throws it again with it ending in the gutter, twice.

“Cas stop pretending to be terrible at it to make me feel better,” Dean frowns at him. Castiel looks at him, not expecting to be accused of such a thing.

“I’m not Dean, I promise. I’m just not good at bowling.” Dean gives him an unconvinced look. “I promise you, I can call Hannah and she can confirm for you if you’d like?”

“It’s fine,” Dean grumbles. Sam comes back and Dean gets up, grabbing a ball and walks to the lane. He throws it, watching amazed as it goes down and hits five of the pins and he grins, grabbing another ball and throwing it again hitting the rest down. He turns around, practically jumping with joy as he rushes to Cas. “Cas I did it! Did you see?”

“I did!” Castiel smiles proudly at him. Happy to see he’s been cheered up almost instantly and raking in the scent of happy omega. “You done brilliant.”

Dean smiles at him, blushing as Castiel kisses his forehead. They do two more rounds and Dean hits few more over at the first go each try and he cheers as he finally gets a strike. Balthazar and Sam, still smugly claiming they’re going to win.

Dean catches up with points with ease and as it gets to his last go, Dean looks at the scoreboard. Balthazar is on 165, Sam is on 163, Dean is on 162 and Castiel is last with an abysmal 62. The other three had taken their turns, Cas with hardly any pins going down, Sam hitting a three and a two and Bal hitting four and a five. Dean walks up to the lane, ball in hand and he throws it down, hitting all ten pins, and then again for his second and last go.

Dean turns around, seeing Sam and Balthazar looking flabbergasted and Castiel just looks proud. After Dean’s first two attempts, both Bal and Sam didn’t expect for him to beat them. He walks over and they all pat him on the back, congratulating him. Castiel treats him to a build a bear teddy, that Dean chose a little brown bear, and he found a trench coat and suit that reminded him of Castiel. He decided to name it Bearstiel.

That night, as Dean lays in his nest with Castiel and Bearstiel, he looks up from where his head is resting on the Alphas chest. “Cas, I’m sorry I accused you of pretending to make me feel better.” He says, feeling bad about it. Castiel kisses his forehead and smiles at him.

“That’s okay Dean, I can see how it would have seemed that way.” Castiel looks into Dean’s bright green eyes, a look of happiness and content swimming around in them, “As long as you’re happy, I’m happy.”
