Domani bent down near a large tree, arriving at the secret garden Diavolo had created for them behind the castle. Here was where the pod lay, Domani’s twins were still growing and needed daily care until the day they were ready to emerge. Domani didn’t know when that would be or how long it would take, they just knew their babies would be beautiful and were thrilled that Diavolo was overly ecstatic about hearing about them. They had yet to tell Lucifer and Asmodeus, who have both been very busy lately for a change.
Another pair of feet could be heard behind them, making Domani turn in defense. They eased their stance once they saw it was Simeon, who gave them a soft glance.
“Diavolo told me you’d be here.”
“Doesn’t this remind you of the garden you and I visited regularly? I’m wondering if it’s still there in the Celestial Realm.”
Simeon came closer to Domani, his expression becoming sullen.
“I would have to ask Luke…he’s been calling me a lot lately. He misses me I’m assuming.”
Domani placed their hand on his shoulder, squeezing it lightly.
“It’s my fault you can’t go back…”
Simeon turned, the blue in his eyes now dull and dark. He shook his head.
“I made the choice, I promised Father something I was confident I could do. It’s my mistake thinking…that you of all hearts could be caged like he was asking of you.”
His hand rose up to cup Domani’s cheek, wiping a stray tear away with his thumb.
“Don’t weep for me, Domani. I am content. I still get to be around those who care for me. Now please, show me what you were tending to just now.”
Domani’s eyes brightened up as they stood aside, revealing the dull glowing crystal-like pod. Simeon bent down and smiled.
“It’s a pod similar to yours…their souls radiate such energy I’ve never seen. Truly unique and beautiful.”
“My babies will be loved so much, my heart is full. I couldn’t carry them without injury to myself, but this way…I didn’t know I was capable of this.”
“It makes sense to me, you were created in a similar fashion. I am just surprised that this is surviving so well with so little light and Celestial energy. But they are thriving, I can see them move.”
Domani threw themselves on Simeon’s back, their arms embracing him. Simeon gently grabbed the other’s hands for a moment before standing up and breaking away. Domani took a hold of his wrists, staring intently at him.
“Simeon…nothing is stopping us now. You’re free from the rules of the Celestial Realm, we can be lovers now.”
The other shook his head.
“No. We cannot. I’m sorry.”
Domani felt their heart shatter. They didn’t understand why. Before maybe they could understand Simeon’s predicament, his loyalty to his duties as an angel, but now…
“Why…” Domani’s voice cracked when they spoke.
“I am very aware of whose bed you share every night with, and it’s not me. You come back to the arms of not just one lover but two others. These hands…”
He traced his fingers up and down Domani’s neck and collarbone slowly.
“These hands of mine…could never replace how the others collectively make you feel. I can’t stand it.”
Domani grasped his hand and placed it near their heart.
“You feel this? It beats just as deep, just as fast for you…I can love all of you equally.”
Simeon snatched his hand away, rage in his voice.
“Don’t you understand?! I don’t want you with anyone else. I don’t want your body belonging to anyone but me. I don’t want to belong to anyone but you! I want you to crave me as much as I crave you.”
Domani’s eyes were now streaming with tears. They were losing and didn’t know what to do. What could make this fallen angel understand that they could still be together? Domani embraced Simeon again, letting their lips brush against the other’s neck.
“Is this enough? I need you…you’ve never claimed me before. The intimate moments we’ve shared from afar were only teased. If that's how you feel, I need you now. I want our love to be sealed.”
Simeon shoved Domani off of him, his eyes wet with tears and filled with frustration.
“No. You aren’t my angel anymore Domani, you never were. Don’t play with my feelings like this, I don’t have the strength to pry you from the demon lord’s hands…nor the will to tear you from Lucifer or Asmodeus.”
“But…”
“Domani…I will always love you. If you were to leave them and be with me right at this moment, I would not hesitate to take you. If you were to tell me right now I am the only one you need, I would take you back to my room and show you exactly how much I’ve been holding back.”
Domani shivered. Simeon looked away, unable to face them.
“But…I know you. Your love for them…will always outweigh mine. I can’t help how I feel, I can’t help wanting to just have you and you alone. I am even admittedly upset that the beautiful creations growing now aren’t mine and yours. I’ve truly lost you.”
Domani reached out their hand but Simeon only took it and gently kissed the tips of their fingers.
“I’m not sure if I can wait for you, but I know that I don’t want to talk about this with you anymore. Please don't bring it up in the future.”
He then left the garden, Domani standing alone with their arms trembling. This emotion, this sadness, this anguish was new. They felt like a child who couldn’t get their way and yet they felt so lonely and afraid.
They could feel themselves shift forms again, their horns emerging and their eyes changing. Their long black claws came forth, and their hair darkened. They let out a demonic roar into the trees, causing the nearby animal life to vacate the area. Domani fell to the ground growling and screaming. They couldn’t handle it. In mere moments they could hear Barbatos calling out to them but they were blinded by their own tears. The butler in a swift movement picked up Domani from the ground and in moments they were back at the castle.
He placed Domani down in a nearby lounging room as Domani continued to growl and cry. They didn’t swipe or bite at Barbatos at least which was a good sign that they had better control of their demon form than before.
“Domani, Lord Diavolo won’t be back from his duties for another hour or so, is there someone you’d like for me to come to sit with you?”
Domani didn’t answer or face the butler. They buried their head deep in their knees.
“I’ll phone Asmodeus, I believe Lucifer is busy as well today. Please let me know if you are losing control.”
He left the room promptly, allowing Domani alone time. He looked at his D.D.D and contacted Asmodeus who answered in his usual bubbly tone.
“Barbatos, what a surprise! What pleasure do I have with you calling me?”
“Please come to the castle immediately. Domani isn’t feeling well and they are in their demon form at the moment. I would intervene but I figured you or Lucifer would be a better choice.”
“Oh my, what has my lovely angel gotten themselves into now? I’ll be right there.”
